Remote Key Fluky Performance

The 2 remote keys on my 2000ES weren't working when pressing either door or trunk buttons. Checked batteries- were perfect, and cleaned inside with rubbing alcohol. When I put them together, they work sometimes, and at other times not. Partly depends on what part of button I push. Is there a trick to putting the parts together that might make a difference? There doesn't seem to be much flexibility because the 2 screws for battery case and the outer screw can only be fixed in a certain way.

Would you believe that I had the original batteries in my key remote for my '94ES, and that was after using this key for almost 9 years! Also, I never changed a bulb in the entire car! That's the truth. ;)

Batteries and bulbs are really a fluke. Sometimes like with Alan they'll last forever, sometimes they need to be replaced constantly...

Whenever the remote doesn't work quite right, always change the batteries first. 9 times out of 10 thats whats wrong.
