Cabin Air Filter

would you recommend cleaning the cabin air filter with vacum cleaner or buying a new one, Asked the parts guy at dealership, stated you shouldn't vacum it, but replace it. cost $ 56

When I pulled the cabin air filter out from behind the glove compartment, the bracket that holds the filter states: to clean, use air blower . so I guess the parts guy is right in one way, I replaced the the filter with a new one, and kept the old one, I vacum it .

They just tell you not to maintain it so they can make the sale.

And $56 seems VERY steep for a cabin air filter. Should be like ~$30.

I agree with blowing it out with an air gun. That's what I do to my air filter, but I've heard to only blow ONE direction. Blow onto the clean side so you don't lodge dirt deeper into the filter.

Vac it after you go and order a new one.

I just bought one a few weeks ago from here and the new one is a lot more heavy-duty versus the one in there. It amazes me everytime how much crap gets in those.
