homemechanic Posted June 26, 2007 Share Posted June 26, 2007 Please suggest how to fix a rim (wheel) leak. Couple months ago my tire had a nail in it. Pulled and patched. A week later, it started to leak air. The guy at Costco installed a new valved, but that didn't help. I went to another Costco and this technician was more experience. He brushed the rust off and beaded the rim with a compound before putting the tire back on. That was good for several months. Now it starts to leak air again. Using soap and water, I detected the leak where the tire beads into the rim. Any suggestions on how to fix this leak? Had anyone tried installing an inner tube rather than buying a new rim (wheel)? I see Kragen sells these Victor/Monkey Grip inner tubes for tires. I know bicycles use inner tubes, but don't know if this would be beneficial for car tires. Thanks a lot! If yes the question is it worth the cost of repairing, here is a link that may help with your decision. Another problem is pinholes in the aluminum that make air leak from the tires.
