Transmission Flush - Good Or Bad ?

I am very close to buying a 2000 Lexus RX300 with 111K miles.

I was planning to get a transmission flush done. But some tell me

that it is not a good idea to get a flush done - especially if it

has never been done before. A better way is to just drain the fluid,

clean the filter and be done. But that probably replaces only 1/4 of the fluid.

I would really appreciate the list's opinion on this.

I am not sure a flush would cause any problems, but I would be cautious at that mileage.

The only way you can trust a flush is if you are the original owner and you have flushed from the beginning of the maintenance schedule. That said, Drain and fill, Drain and fill etc... Do this until the fluid drains red. Then drain and fill once a year after that. I personally drain and fill @ every oil change.

I would think the best procedure would be to drop the sump pan first and clean the debris from it and then do a complete flush. That way there will be no chance for the debris to be (re)distributed throughout the transaxle during the flush.
