BlueSC400
I have an SC400 1993 I have been doing some mods to it and one of my biggest complaints is the automatic transmisionI would love to get a 5 speed manual in my car. I can live with the auto transsmision, but like I said, I would like a Manual a lot. Has anyone done this? how hard of a mod is this? Most of what I have seen/read seems to say that the change would be near imposible without a lot of fabing, which I such at.
jzz30
they did it when they poped in a 3uzfe in to an is200 in the uk. for a more reasonable solution you can try to see if a toyota truck trans will bolt up. but only if the tundra came with a manual trans becasue i believe they may have used the same block. garethr
Castlemaine Rod Shop (CRS) and Dellow in Australia sell bellhousings. http://www.rodshop.com.au/ http://www.dellowauto.com.au/main.html Rush Imports in Australia developed a kit for the 1UZ and R154 using an adaptor plate, but it needs the bellhousing from a 1JZ-GTE engine / R154 gearbox (JDM Soarer / Supra JZA70 / Chaser / Mark II). http://www.rushimports.com.au/ Thor Racing in the UK have a kit which mates the 1UZ-FE auto bellhousing to the R154 gearbox from a Supra Mk3 3-litre turbo. http://www.thor-racing.co.uk/Manual_Gearbo...version-311.asp I'm surprised there's nothing available in the US, though. Guest_Soarer400
I wish my SC4 was manual to but right now it sounds like a headache to make the transition. Hopefully in the near future many more options will become available for these particular Lex's(i.e 460 or 470 engine swaps w/ manual or autoshift tranny). wishful thinking I know. The R154 tranny swaps seems to be the most cost effective manual swap for the SC400...That swap has been done many times on the SC4's....Although if you got money to blow the V160 Supra tt 6 speed manual swap is the best choice of all...That tranny shifts like butter and has a 1000hp holding capacity along with that extra gear...It swaps in just like the R154 but costs alot more..The lexus Sc400's have identical subframes and that is why most parts can be swapped from the supra's to the SC4's and 3's...
