Front Right Side Ext Door Handle Does Not Open

this is on a 1998 toyo/lexus es/camry

I can open the front right door from the inside, but not from the outside.

When I pull on the door handle from the outside, it's not latching onto anything, so it won't open.

anyone know what part might be malfunctioning?

i'm looking at the repair manual, and there are tons of parts in the front door. looks complicated.

Right, so any pointers on opening up the door and gettting inside to make the repairs?

did you fix this? How did you get to the lock mechanism. I'm having the exact problem with the front driver side.

i took the panel off, all i see is a speaker, some wires, but its all metal how do you get to the lock stuff?
