Help ! Bad Performace, Hot Efi Relay

Hi All,

I have LS 1992, with 130k mils. When I bought car I replaced: sparks, wires, distributor, distributors' cap, main lambda sensors. Done: cleared throttle, EGR valve, checked compression, exhaust analyst - all results are excellent. No any error codes stored in ECU (checked at dealer). But CAR is SLOW like turtle :-( and takes about 25% more fuel than should.

I compared it to LS of my friend and his LS is fast and perfectly accelerates. I replaced his MAF with mine - the same (his car run quickly on my MAF)

Yesterday I checked all cables under hood (fuses, relays) and I found VERY HOT "EFI relay" where rest of relays were little worm. I replaced that relay and still is the same - new one is also hot (after few miles of ride).

I need your help guys, because dealer says "no error codes = all is fine" :chairshot:

What should I check more ??

Additionally - there were ONE day (last week) when car worked perfectly (I did nothing, just start car and ride) - after few hours backed to 'bad' state'. I thinking it can be electrical problem ?

HELP ME PLEASE !!!!

I start thinking to sell my car I don't like ride on it when accelerates to 60mph in 13s :-(

Get "Pictograms" & find out what is downstream from the relay. That is the culprit. When the relay is that hot, it is because there is way too much current flowing through it. I'm surprised that the first relay didn't burn out before you had a chance to replace it.

How long has your car had this problem? Did it run OK before?

If you had ONE day (last week) when car worked perfectly, then it's an intermittent problem. Granted it's been mostly bad, but it could just be a loose wire, scraped insulation, etc.......

What kind of work have you done or have you had done recently? Where were you or your mechanic working? Could be Murphy's law of "unintended consequences" making a run at you......

Obviously, your dealer is wrong.............All is not fine, but I think it's probably a pretty straightforward electircal problem. Shouldn't be too hard to fix.

Can someone share wire diagram for LS (UE/Japan) ?

For what EFI relay is used ? Who knows ?

I bought car with damaged engine (see one piston http://www.ls400.waw.pl/Uszkodzonytlok/index.html), my mechanic rebuilt it (replaced piston, and complete time belt, sparks, etc..) After rebuilt engine working 'evenly' for all cylinders, but have no power :-( I started looking what can be a reason of no acceleration - no power and then I found hot EFI relay..

One more, but I think not related problem is with front dimmer lights. I can't tun them on using switch - to turn dimmer lights I must use jumper placed in main fuses box under hood - I just ordered new switch and wait for delivery (I hope it is a problem)

I believe in that but I found NO ONE specialist who say "OK I'll investigate and try to find your car problem" :-( Normal answer is "No ECU codes, mechanically OK - car is fine" :-(

Thank you

I would say start with tracing the wireing to see if everything is OK. You can also try using a meter on the wires and try moving te wires around and see if the reading on the meter changes.

Other things that can do what you are talking about are bad coils (car takes 2, and a bad coil does not always throw a code) low power and or cloged cat or muffler.

If you get no luck with wires, or fix them, but still no power, try swaping out your coils, and having a shop check your back persure.

Hi Maniek

I am curious about your car's "front dimmer lights". Are these the fog lights? Low beams?

Thanks

You right ! I'm mentioned about Low beams and called them as tail lights :( For clearance I have a problem with Low beam lights but wiring diagram for my car is completely different from US/Canada/UK cars..

On Monday I'll try to look for any wiring problems - I think it could be integration relay issue ..

Thank you
