pearlwhite97ES Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 I heard there is a 7 or 8 eight year limit on the sludge recall. My 97 es had some sludge in the oil today when I changed it. Been running mobil 1 5000 mile oil. Also would toyota honor the recall or do I have to go to a lexus dealer? ty d.w.

I beleive the warranty is 8 years & I'd go with a Lexus dealer personally (but call Lexus head office to make sure). B) Make sure you have proof of all oil changes since you have owned the car. :)

mburnickas Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 Will you please explain "My 97 es had some sludge in the oil today" I agree. Two different things.
pearlwhite97ES Posted March 13, 2006 Author Posted March 13, 2006 Will you please explain "My 97 es had some sludge in the oil today" I agree. Two different things. O.k. when I changed my oil there was clumps which seems to be "sludge" when I poured it into a bucket from drain pan.. I've never seen this b-4 and believe me I search through my oil. I was just wondering if the waranty is still good? I wonder what lexus would do to check this?
camlex Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 long time ago i requested for my Sienna which has same 1MZFE engine. Mark who was advisor mentioned to me that they did open valvecover no sludge was found. Hope that helps. Just go to Dealer and request what is your concern and see what happen. Good luck.

Pull front valve cover; total cover about $15 for RTV and OEM seal. Or do an oil test for around $20. Even doing both is cheaper then having the dealer pull cover off. Have you checked you TB or PCV lately?
pearlwhite97ES Posted March 14, 2006 Author Posted March 14, 2006 No.. I have'nt checked the TB or PVC lately... I've also had alot of hesitation at idle. When at a stop light the car will jump or hesitate and then on acceleration it stops. any idea? I heard maybe a motor vac or is it hard to clean the TB?

Takes about 1 hour and is easy. Do a search since it has come up many times here. Did my last summer.
mairella Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Hey, I have a 2000 ES and it's 8 years but there is a mileage limit, I can't remember what it is though. I got mine done a while ago but now my car acts funny and the dealer won't do anything about it...so I'm stuck with a 2000 ES with engine problems.
Toysrme Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 You also, are likely to just have some nagging minor problems. Mis-aligned cams, or timing belt, vacuum leaks from split/unconnected hoses, minor electrical problem like bad plugs, broken/unconnecting wiring.
abrarcool Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I had gone to a lexus dealer and asked about this problem and the lady said its mainly seen on the 1997 years and they still fix em if you have em they charge 95$ and hour and it takes 4 hours to take the valve covers off and check em
