Got a 1992 sc400 I am modifing, need to refill the hydraulic pump fluid, wondering if I can use power steering fluid or transmittion fluid? ATP? Never looked into these fluids? Anyone? I am also going to list and show pics of some mods I recently did and am doing on my 1992 SC400. Just to help those that may be interested..

agreed your tranny and PS sytem both use them

JIBBBY has a SC400 so his tranny uses Toyota Type T-IV fluid which is available only from Toyota / Lexus dealer parts dept's. Type T-IV fluid should not be used in Toyota power steering systems, only Dexron ATF.

Thanks I will give it a go... A.T.F. - automatic transmittion fluid....thanks. I was going to use transmittion fluid anyway but just needed to be re-assured, I swapped my hydraulic fan out to a dual electric flex-a-lite fan on my 1992 sc400 to free up horsepower, weight and room under the hood. I disabled the stock hydraulic pump by removing the star shaped vanes or spleens from inside the hydraulic fan pump and now I have no load on the pump it just free spins (yeah), but now I needed to fill the pump up with fluid half way to keep the main bearing lubed before pluging the in and out lines located at the block. Hear are some of my pics of my job if you are interested..... The pic of the funny looking nut splitter tool is because I stripped out the nut on the hydraulic pulley stud because it was reverse threading (lefty) and I did not know. I guess you can say I torqued the nut the wrong way. I also took a pictures of the two bolts the one is the replacement plug at the block, and the clean pic is of my engine running nos before the job started.. Oh and I did not need to remove all the plastic crap around the engine bay like shown in the pics for this job. I had thought I was originally going to have to remove the pump from the block and it ended up that I didn't. The only bolts on the pump I needed to access were directly behind the pump pulley to perform this job, and that is it the stars vanes slide right out. This job can be very simple...and the new dual fan mounts fit just right on the stock radiator, no drilling holes nothing...

After thinking about plugging the oil lines at the block I reconsidered and used the fan tank and two hoses looped to allow for heat expansion and have the pump full of fluid all the time. If plugged at block and sealed, I feared the seals would give out and fail...

Fan is done and works just fine, thanks for asking. I am now working on the off setting fitment of my newly altered rear rims. I did find out yesterday that the absolute widest tire you can fit in the rear stock SC400 wheel wells is my "275"/35/18. I needed these custom 3/4' inch wheel adaptors made today and had to curl the outer lip of the fender to squeeze these fat tires on my sc... Headers and Supra big brakes next... Hear are some more pic's..

Here is a few other tips for the SC owners that may want a new look on that worn out looking inside. I re-did my complete leather interior- I paid $700 for all the replacement leather covers which I purchased on Ebay and $300 for the installation. The job came out like new. In addition I also found this woodgrain dash kit for around $100 that anyone can install also on Ebay. It really made my car look nice on the inside. More pics....Thought this illustration may be more helpful and practical for the majority of readers on this forum that are not interested in hotroding...
