Nav Screen Repair

Has anyone had the misfortune of cracking their nav screen? I have and I'm being told they don't repair them, they only replace the system. If you have any advice, I'll take it. 2001 RX300. Washington, DC area.

I'm new to the owners club, so still getting familiar with how posts work. I put this post in the car care forum first. Sorry for the duplication if you're seeing it two places.

dealer's saying $3,500+, full replacement system. I'm looking for a system from a body shop in case they get a totaled lexus with most or all of the nav intact. I think I just need the screen or screen cover, as the graphics behind look okay. Other than that, not finding anything else online.

bringing lumber home from Lowe's. Stopped short, my co-pilot wasn't holding it secure enough. Very unhappy lexus owner!

Thanks for your time.

That sucks.

Think of the screen like a computer screen, you can't just replace the cover, if that were to happen to a computer screen you'd have to replace the entire unit, the same is true of the nav screen.

Now, $3500 is the new retail price, a remanufactured unit is less and I think Lexus can get their hands on one. What dealership and which service rep do you deal with? You could also, like you said, find a unit somewhere from a wrecking yard. Its better to search wrecking yards than body shops because once a vehicle gets totalled its not going to go to a body shop, its going to go to a wrecking yard to be sold as salvage or to be parted. Just search around on the Internet for "salvage parts Lexus" and you'll find some places, call them and see what they've got. I bet you can find one somewhere, then just take it to a stereo shop or somewhere to have it installed.

Which Lowes? The one up in the Kentlands?

I read this and I'm still shaking my head and feeling this guy's pain. Never haul a significant load of lumber inside an SUV. Always use a real truck to do a truck's job. Know anybody who owns a pickup? Pay them some gas money to help you out next time. What an expensive lesson to learn.

That's why my primary vehicle is a full-size pickup....

Yep, the Kentlands Lowes. I've been going to Lexus of Rockville since I got it. I'm checking out the salvage yards, we'll see what happens.

Thanks again.

Amen, brother. Lesson learned.

Thanks.

Mission accomplished. With the help of a determined salvage yard/parts guys I found by an internet posting, found several sources for a used nav screens. $1,000 - $1,500 range for the screens with nav (displays without nav are much cheaper). Dealer charged me an hour to install. Happy to have my nav back.
