My 1998 ES300 has a very high idle. I had the throttle body cleaned and the TPS replaced but the rpm still is around 1500 on the rpm gauge. Someone told me it probably is the Idle Air Control Valve but I don't know where it is located. Please help.

Is this when the car is already warmed up to operating temperature? When was the last time you had a major tune up? But yes, sounds like the IACV is a possibility. B) Welcome to the club btw! ;)

Yes the problem is there when the car is warmed up to operating temperature. I had the spark plugs, ignition wires and air filter changed less than 500 miles ago.

Please tell me the location of the IACV

IAC is always a good thing to clean.

After that check your coolant temp sensor. The older they get, the colder they read. The colder they read, the more rpm @ idle & fuel they spray.

I am having the same problem now.

I just took off the IACV and cleaned it, put it back together and the car idles higher than normal.

Even after the engine warms up, it stays that way.

Anyone know what is going on?

Hi, I'm a new 98 es300 owner, what is considered to be a "normal rpm" at startup? I didn't pay any attention to it, but when I checked in the dealership before driving out, it was between 1 - 1.5k. My old 95 corolla doesn't even have a tachometer.

*in general*

450rpm cranking a toy v6

1800-2000rpm initial startup throttle blip to raise oil pressure

1200-1500rpm cold idle

750rpm warm idle no powersteering no fan, no A/C on an automatic transmission

800-1200rpm with the above active.

800-1200rpm with the brakes applied depending on the load created by the vacuum assist.
