Rotorhead Posted July 19, 2003 Posted July 19, 2003 Hi, This is my first post, as I have only just become an owner of GS400. It is a 1998 model with NAV. The mapping info ends at the US border and doesn't stretch into Canada where I live. The GPS system still works its just that there are no maps. Does anyone know here if newer software from Lexus for the GPS system rectifies this issue. Regards, Matthew
Steve@Lextasy.com Posted July 19, 2003 Posted July 19, 2003 Go to your local lexus dealer. You are aloud at least one update free of charge.
SKperformance Posted July 19, 2003 Posted July 19, 2003 yah tehre is a dvd disc for canada not as detailed as the US but still very good
Rotorhead Posted July 20, 2003 Author Posted July 20, 2003 As far as I can tell no Canadian dealer knows what to do about upgrading a 98 GS nav system. They did not supply the NAv systems, in Canada until 2001 I believe. That is when it went from a HardDisc to A DVD.. The Lexus Canada tech support seemed to think the 98 GS came with a CD system. I'm pretty sure its a hard disc solution. Anyway if there is anyone out there with upto date software on a 98/99 GS or LS, please check to see if you can get Ottawa or Toronto on you screen. Or do the maps end at the US-Canadian border . I would be very greatful for any results. regards, Matthew
Lkevon Posted July 20, 2003 Posted July 20, 2003 matthew, my gs is a 99' and it also cuts off at the us/cdn border! maybe we can get a free upgrade as stated previously by steve@lextasy.com as my gps map has never been upgraded before!!! you can access the date of the map version by pressing menu, navi option and at the top left corner touch map info!!!! hope this helped a bit!!! kevin
Rotorhead Posted July 20, 2003 Author Posted July 20, 2003 Thanks Kevin, I'll let you know if I make any headway with regards to an upgrade that includes Canada. It seems to me the most likely time you are going to need GPS is when you are not in your own backyard.
