Amazing But True !

My problem is that recently, on occasion, when slowing to apply the brakes at low speeds the engine will not idle down. In essence the brake is on while the car wants to go. This desn't seem like a very safe combination.

Has anyone ever experienced this and, if so, what was the cause.

The 2002 rx 300 only has 41,000 miles on it and is still under warranty. It is in the shop now as it is too dangerous to drive.
