Good Buy?

Hey Lexus owners!

Looking at a 1995 ES300 with 140,000 miles on her, sounds like highway miles, Car looks great interior and exterior, however, the A/C in not operational. Asking price is $4500(USD). Good buy?

Other option is a 1996 with 132,000, looks great in and out pearl white and tan 2 tone paint, everything works for $5500(USD). Better?

Figured I'd leave it to the pros!

Thanks for the feedback!

Everything works.  Probably gonna cost much to fix the A/C on the first car.

Is that pretty expensive usually?

If it's the compressor it would be.

CarFax both of them. Get all the maintenance records, Run the vin# at a LEXUS stealer. Digest that then look them both over with a fine toothed comb , Sleep on it then sh$t or get off the pot. No offense

Find a mechanic you trust who will go over both cars with a fine toothed comb. It will be worth the money.

it's most likely the expansion valve. common problem on early model ES A/C systems. Previous posts put repair at about 5 bills.

gut instinct says go with the 96.

check both for oil residue around the valve covers and rear seal. These are common ailments of the early ES's too.
