NW Sooner
1996 ES 300 150k Miles Clicking sound when I turn left. Is this a CV boot? what would the estimated repair cost be? This is my first Lexus and I just got it for a commuter car. Thanks
98es
That would be my guess. My accord and maxima both had that problem. From what I gathered, once you hear clicking you must replace the axle too. I think it was about $200-$250 per side.

NW Sooner
I am not sure.. I hope it's not too spendy to get fixed. I think there is a CV boot that goes over the joint?
98es
Correct, once the boot breaks all the grease leaks out and dirt gets in and up into the axle. So, someone correct me if i'm wrong, but I think what has to be replaced is the joint, boot, and axle. Some places tried to only replace only the joint and boot, but once the boot busts you need to replace axle too or the clicking sound will come back (from my previous experience). 1995_ES300
Yes, more than likley it is the CV joint. There is a slim chance it could be a cracked bearing too, but check to boot to see if the rubber shroud is cracked open
sunman
Replace BOTH CV Joint and BOOT. Replacing the boot alone with grease may cure the problem for a short while but the problem will remain. The Joint needs to be replaced.
NW Sooner
I talked to a local mechanic and he estimated $280 to replace each side. Does that seem fair? Thanks
1995_ES300
if it is both sides and labor included, then absolutly! it cost that much just to replace 1 side of my car
