branshew Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 I removed the keyless entry control unit this afternoon. I confirmed that it does have the chip in it that matches the key, but the keyless system is not working. Does anyoune know if there is a way to troubleshoot where I can determine if it is the key or the control module? ( I suppose it could also be the switch, but i doubt it.) I have tried turning the radio to 94.9 FM and pressing the button on the key, but I get no response on that frequency (honestly I'm not really sure what I would hear). If it's the receiver than I should be able to get one from a salvage yard, swap the chip and be back in business for relatively little $$ . If it's the key, then I'll have to visit the stealership and get a new key/chip combo which is more $$$. Any thoughts?
RFeldes Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 You should hear a faint buzz when you press the key.
LexKid630 Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 Can a dealer help you get a new key? Wouldn't that make it easier?

Wouldn't that make it easier? ← Yes, BUT my point was that I don't know if it's the key or the receiver. I could go to the stealership, but I'm a DIY guy and would prefer to save the money if it is something that I can do on my own (i.e. replace the control module). If it ends up being the key, the stealership is the only place that can help since I'll need a new key and a new chip. If it's the control module, then I can replace that on my own and save a little money in the process. I'm not hearing a faint buzz so I guess it could be the key?
1990LS400 Posted April 24, 2005 Posted April 24, 2005 There was a lengthy troubleshooting procedure for the keyless entry in the Lexus shop manuals which I passed on to the buyer of my 90 LS. I don't see a similar procedure in the shop manuals for my 00 LS but the keyless entry system appears to be very different from the earlier LS. Kind of hard to DIY without the shop manuals or access to the Lexus techinfo website.
