lfein Posted December 21, 2004 Share Posted December 21, 2004 Check Engine with 402 (1141?) Code (EGR staying open). Haynes has you do back flips. I checked for the obvious loose vac lines, electrical connections, can I just jumper some stuff (bypass) to see if it is the EGR valve. I checked many of the items, but I don't want to just start replacing parts. I put a vacuum on the EGR valve and it did what the Haynes manual said it should do. I have checked the VCV but it doesn't seem to hold the vacuum as long as it should, I have not checked the EGR gas temp sensor. Anyone with some experience with this? Can throttle body cleaner be used to clean the iacv? The manual says not to use carburetor cleaner on the iacv, but to use it on the throttle body. What is the proper procedure? Can I leave the throttle body on the car and just remove the air intake? How do I clean (check) the iacv? I have used carb cleaner on carburetors, but I guess I must be sure it will not hurt fuel injectors and catylic converters! steviej Posted December 21, 2004 Share Posted December 21, 2004 just make sure the throttle body cleaner or carb cleaner says "safe for O2 sensors" on the side of the can. people have cleaned the TB both ways.
