Check Light 402 Egr Valve Open?

Check Engine with 402 (1141?) Code (EGR staying open). Haynes has you do back flips. I checked for the obvious loose vac lines, electrical connections, can I just jumper some stuff (bypass) to see if it is the EGR valve. I checked many of the items, but I don't want to just start replacing parts. I put a vacuum on the EGR valve and it did what the Haynes manual said it should do. I have checked the VCV but it doesn't seem to hold the vacuum as long as it should, I have not checked the EGR gas temp sensor. Anyone with some experience with this? Thanks, Lenny in Austin

So this will (may) cure the egt error code? I looked at the Haynes manual about cleaning the throttle body and the iac valve. Can throttle body cleaner be used to clean the iacv? The manual says not to use carburetor cleaner on the iacv, but to use it on the throttle body. What is the proper procedure? Can I leave the throttle body on the car and just remove the air intake? How do I clean (check) the iacv? I have used carb cleaner on carburetors, but I guess I must be sure it will not hurt fuel injectors and catylic converters!

Thanks Lenny

just make sure the throttle body cleaner or carb cleaner says "safe for O2 sensors" on the side of the can.

people have cleaned the TB both ways. If you remove it, you may have to replace several gaskets when you mount it back on.
