Hello to all - I have a '97 LS400 with 115,000 flawless miles. However, recently the check engine light has pemanately illuminated while the engine is running. All the fluids are OK and the engine sounds and performs perfectly. Would appreciate any and all advice... Thanks

Go to a parts store or garage that will read the codes, get the code numbers and report back here. That's about the only way to tell.

The check engine light has nothing to do with your fluid levels. Because your car is OBD2 it is definitely emissions related. Do as barkat suggested and get the trouble code pulled.

How could you possibly determine that the O2 sensor is malfunctioning based on just the check engine light?

so agreed nothing mentioned points to any conclusive answer as their are no symptoms

no code .................no idea

There is a POSSIBILITY of O2 malfanctioning because Yudelia metioned engine sounds and runs perfectly.

For older cars mostly the check engine light are related to air/fuel ratio IF the engine sounds and runs perfectly. I had the same experience. :)

There are many things that can make it come on. The only true way to know is to check the code. Could be anything. I have had them come on because I overfilled the gas tank.

Well, anything is possible sainikai but you can't say, "it sounds like a O2S" based on what yudelia said. FYI, bad O2 sensors can make your car run like crap.

Hi again, thanks for all the response! I took everyones advice and purchased a reader and it displayed error code PO135. Where should I go from here? Thanks

Bank 1 sensor 1, heated O2 sensor circuit malfunction. Pull out the sensor and check the heating coil of the sensor for continuity with a multimeter.

Were any other codes thrown?
