Hi - These are the directions for the 1999 ES300. I would guess it works the same as the RX.

Here are the directions right out of the owner's manual. For easy online access to the owner's manual, you should register your car at lexus.com - it's quick, easy, and very informative. Here's the link:

The HomeLink has 3 buttons and can be

programmed to operate 3 separate devices.

Prepare the HomeLink for programming by

erasing all codes or the memorized data

programmed by the former owner.

Erasing the garage door opener memory

Push and hold down the 2 outside buttons for about 20

seconds until the indicator light flashes. All memorized

data will be erased.

1. Decide which one of the 3 buttons you want to

program. Push and hold down the button for about 20

seconds until the indicator light begins to flash. While

holding this button, follow steps ”2” and ”3”.

2. Bring the hand held garage door opener within about

25 mm (1 in.) of the button being programmed and push

the button on the hand held garage door opener. The

signal from the hand held garage door opener is sent to

the vehicle’s opener.

3. When the frequency and code is registered, the

indicator light flashes rapidly. At this point, you can

release both buttons.

4. To program the remaining buttons, repeat steps ”1”

through ”3”.

If you want to replace an existing program with a new

program, select the button you want to program. Follow

the procedure from step 1.

If the transmitter has a ”rolling code feature”, it is

necessary to program the in–garage receiver after

programming HomeLink.

1. Locate the ”training” or ”learning” button on the

in–garage receiver and push and release this

button. Location of the button may vary by the

garage door opener manufacturer.

2. Firmly push and release the trained HomeLink

button 2 times (some garage door manufacturer

may require you to push the HomeLink button up

to 3 times) to complete the process.

The garage door should now operate when the

HomeLink button is pushed.

Thank you. After posting, I, by some luck, found information on how to program it, but thank you very much, the owner manual link will help me. Hopefully my post and your information will help out someone else too. :D

Programming

Note: For best results, replace the battery in the handheld transmitter with a new battery before programming. If your

garage door opener receiver (located in the garage) is equipped with an antenna, make sure the antenna is hanging

straight down.

1. For first-time programming, press and hold the two

outside buttons until the indicator light begins to

flash (after 20 seconds). Release both buttons.

Note: Some vehicles may require the ignition switch

to be turned to the second (or “accessory” ) position

during the programming process.

2. Hold the end of your handheld transmitter between

1 and 3 inches away from the HomeLink surface

(located on your visor or overhead console) keeping

the indicator light in view.

3. Using both hands, simultaneously push the

handheld transmitter button and the desired

HomeLink button. DO NOT release the buttons until

step 4 has been completed.

4. Hold down both buttons until the indicator light on

the HomeLink Wireless Control System flashes, first

slowly then rapidly. When the indicator light flashes rapidly, both buttons may be released. (The rapidly flashing light

indicates successful programming of the new frequency signal.) To activate the garage door or other programmed

device, press and hold the HomeLink button—releasing when the device begins to activate.

5. To program the remaining two buttons, follow steps 2 through 4.

A word of warning on using Homelink garage door opener. If you park outside, be aware that the Openlink will function even if the key is off and removed. A simple pop of the window and a push of the Homelink button and someone is in your house. Might as well leave a garage door opener on your driveway. This is a problem with ALL Homelink units and not limited to Lexus. I've complained to Homelink(Johnson Controls) with no satisfaction. They claim it's a car manufacturer issue. :cries:

My wall control unit has a button that when pushed keeps any remote opener from working. I push mine every night when I lock the house up before I go to bed.

For the most part I think 90% of people click the garage door opener to there visor. So unless your crook owns a lexus or knows about home link I dont think the'll think to use the visor ....

Homelink uses only 2 wires which are for power.

So to modify it to only work with the key turned it is actually really simple.

I would rewire it to the auto dim mirror or run a wire back to the fuse panel to run off a fuse that is only on with the key.

A 10-20 minute modification.
