Hi all -- I have a 2020 RX450h that was under warranty and got a check engine light. I took it to the dealer and they found that there was evidence of a rodent that chewed the knock sensor wires. Anybody know where this is located to replace it? The part seems to be about $100-150, and their charge is $1700 which to me is ridiculous.

Appreciate any help!

Thanks!

I would guess that they plan to replace the entire wire harness, rather than the knock sensor, itself. That could be rather involved, depending upon how many parts need to be removed to do this.

You could save hundreds of dollars by having a Toyota dealership or an independent shop do the work. One way to find out where it is would be to call the parts department and ask counter person. He or she may be able to tell you where the sensor is, but if the wire harness needs to be replaced, that person would likely not know how involved it is.
If there are just chewed wires and I were doing the work, I'd be tempted to solder the wires and cover with high temperature heatshrink.

Yeah for sure -- I just don't know the location in the car where it is. I am pretty handy, can probably figure it out, but need to get some details and then attempt the fix. I've started calling around garages though, if I can get it done within a few hundred then I'll consider it, but car is driving fine just that sensor.

I just received news that the same thing happened to my 2020 Lexus RX 350 L. It only has 30,000 miles on it. The dealership mechanic said he had to scope it with a camera to find the problem.

A rodent apparently chewed through the electrical tape, split loom, and severed off a piece of one of the two wires. I was told $900 for labor only, plus parts, and tax. I'm thinking about $1,200 to $1,300 when all said and done?I was told that the exhaust intake cover and gasket would have to be removed to get to it. The odd thing, other than the "completely severed wire" is that I have a check engine light, which does give that code to replace knock sensor and I also have a " PARKING SUPPORT BRAKE MALFUNCTION GO SEE DEALER" message on my dash board, along with another dashboard error light indicating the my back up sensor warning system is off. They all came on at the same time. Car was driving fine for a few days,  around town for about 100 miles after all this happened then it started to run a little sluggish. I was trying to research stuff before I took into the dealer, cause we all know how costly that can be. I think I'm at there mercy though, cause I don't have time to take it somewhere else and I really don't want to try and tackle this myself, even though I am pretty handy, I'm not a mechanic.
