I recently purchased a red 2002 IS300 from Carmax. When washing the car last night, I noticed some red paint on the bottom of one of the head lights and raised paint edges where the bumper cover attaches to the car under the hood?

Does this definitely indicate that the bumper was repainted, or is it possible that it came from the factory like this? The color match between the bumper cover and the fender/rest of the car is perfect, and there are no other paint edges on the bumper cover or overspray.

BTW, the car is great.

Thanks.

yeah i agree, it definately woulnd't come from the factory with overspray on the headlight assembly thats for sure.....

did you do a car fax report?????

you could probably look underneath the car at the bolts that hold on the bumper and see if there are signs of them being removed.......ie wrench marks

Thanks for the replies. The bolts look untouched / original, but I agree that overspray on the headlight would be highly unusual.

well......i wouldn't worry about it then...just enjoy your new car

you could try a clay bar to get the over spray off of the headlight assemby, if that doesn't do, try a little bit of Goop off, or even Paint thinner, and rub it with a rag......be sure not to get it on the paint, if you do rinse it off immediately,,,,,and your good to go.. :D

no harm no foul

Thanks. Sounds like sage advice.

I've just been so anal about this car, it's driving my wife crazy.

Yeah a simple repainted bumper cover isn't a big deal. In fact some Lexus dealers repaint the front bumper covers on all their CPO cars before they are sold.

Thanks guys. I will plan to do just that; enjoy the hell out of the car. In addition, I did buy a clay bar today for the overspray.

:D
