Has anyone replaced bank 1 oxygen sensor before? It is somewhere close to the firewall, but where? I can not see it from the top, or do I have to remove some parts to gain access to it?

Yes - there were extensive discussion on this. Do a "Search" for oxygen sensor.

I had to replace two of mine, but I let someone else do the work. It wasn't worth the frustration for me. But if you buy replacement sensor, make sure that it's compatible. I remember certain other, less expsensive sensors working, but you had to rig them.

I haven't replaced that sender on my '99 RX300, but I did have to disconnect the leads to it to measure resistance. I got to it from underneath, slightly right of center (toward the passenger side slightly), near the firewall. Look at the one at the front of the car to get a feel for what the connector looks like, and you'll see a similar one where you want to be working near the firewall.

Might be something of a pain to get to, and getting the connector apart wasn't easy since you need at least 2 hands up there. Maybe if the car had been on a full lift that would have been easier, but I was on my back and kinda contorted.

Thanks for your input. I replaced mine with some liquid wrench, an open wrench, and a mallet. It took a lot of patience but a doable job. My rx300 has only 72,000 miles. I just wondered why the sensor would go bad prematurely. The code was P1135-bank 1 lean fuel. I replaced the correct one for sure.
