Dugmahn started following 2008 LS460......valley plate leak
-
Greetings from a new 2008 Lexus LS 460 owner. Huge thanks to this website for helping me get a couple of critical things fixed namely the control, arms and rearview mirror whistle on the passenger door side. My model has 65,000 miles, and the owner sold it because the stealership wanted excessive amounts to service the car. So they just gave up on it. There are a couple of problems that I need to resolve in the near term and wondered if I could get some advice here. The dreaded valley plate appears to be leaking very slightly. However, after watching all of the YouTube videos on the reseal job, it looks like it's a really involved and complicated process and I am wondering if anybody has tried any radiator stop leak on it? I know this is probably has some people cringing and wanting to throw me off the forum for such a suggestion, however, the thought of pulling the Plenum and the associated equipment off is really imposing. Secondly there is a minor problem with the radio/HVAC control system. Intermittently the radio controls will not work except for the controls on the steering column. In addition, the HVAC temp control always defaults to 75° degrees and does not hold its prior setting. Any members know if there is a reset available for the HVAC and radio? Thank you again to this group for all of the awesome information available for our cars.

Rethinking Potential NX450h+ Purchase

When our battery is getting weak, an illuminated notice appears on the dash, indicating that we must shift into park before shutting off the vehicle (or something to that effect). When I see that, I replace the battery. I've never had to jump it, but I believe the procedure for doing so is in the manual. -

Well my friend I see this is old so I'm sure you have been educated by now but I just have to ask: how did it feel to be 99.999% sure about something, with all the confidence you could muster proclaim to know something you actually just assumed. That's what happens when you assume. You were 99.999% sure you were correct and ended up 100% wrong smh lmao

Rethinking Potential NX450h+ Purchase

You must be in a very rural area to be that far away from a Lexus dealership. There are at least 4 within a 30-mile radius of where I live in CA. But I can certainly understand your concern. One of the advantages of taking your vehicle to a Lexus dealership is the free rental vehicle loaner after the warranty expires. We've taken our Lexus to the local Toyota dealership after the warranty expired, mostly because the service is less expensive. There should not be parasitic draining of the 12V battery, not having to not use the AC, nor having to replace the battery often. My experience with runflat tires from years ago is that they were a bit harsh compared to non-runflat tires. I have two vehicles with no spares (Our RX does have a spare tire.), but each has a tire fix kit and mini-compressor. Over the past 12 years, I've never had to use either. I would talk to a service advisor at more than one Lexus dealership about his or her experience with the issues you mentioned. I find it hard to believe that this is very common. -

I think your issue is not likely bulbs. Start car, when light comes on, set the handbrake and release it. Does the light go out. If not put handbrake back on. Shutoff car and restart it. Handbrake light should be on, does it go out when you release the hand brake. I am thinking it is the handbrake position sensor giving you issues. Let us know what you find out once you try this.

Nothing stupid in asking questions. Lexus cars have great audio systems and the better the source quality the more enjoyment listening to music. DBPoweramp (available for both IOS and Windows) can convert lossless audio files (from audio CD’s or download) to M4A (MP4) files in 512kbps 48kHz, which is the highest audio quality possible from the DVD player in our CT. When using USB pin only up to 16Gb we have constant fall-out of music and when the DVD player give us around 18 hours of music in sound quality not sound wise below WAV (CD audio discs) but better than 320kbps from MP3 the DVD player is what we use when driving visiting family. Line-in from a lossless player can transfer even highest level of audio, but few can hear that quality difference when passed 40 years of age (I cannot any-more) and while driving noise from tyres, wind etc. will not allow you to have the concert hall experience anyway.

Soo just picked up a 1999 gs300 and there is one issue with the car that is bugging me, when the car is started there are no lights on the dash, when I press the brake the handbrake light will come on and stay on until the car is turned off and on again, I have checked the brake lights and they all work fine, however they are all led, could the fact there are no resistors be causing this issue or could it be another bulb, ie reverse bulbs, number plate bulbs etc, any help would be awesome as this light is the only thing stopping my car from passing mot 🤙🤙

Maybe the USB is formatted in wrong file type. The little CT we have can read lossy file formats from CD and DVD and USB sticks when formatted in FAT32 (each file cannot be larger than 4Gb with FAT32 file format) M4A audio files up to 512kbps MP3 audio files up to 320kbps Cannot read lossless file types like FLAC; which I find stupid as Lexus have MarkLevinson audio in many models. Maybe will be made possible in new models. A standard DVD 4Gb can have around 18 hours of music formatted in M4A 512kbps 48kHz which is best possible audio quality in our car. A music CD is recorded in 16bit 44kHz 1411kbps. Spotify provides 4 audio qualities available on most devices: 24 kbps (Low), 96 kbps (Normal), 160 kbps (High), and 320 kbps (Very High)

Well, I finally touched up my used 03 17" LS430 wheels with American Touch-up Paint, a little clearcoat, some Menzerna 2500 compound and Meguires ultra-finish polish. They came out shiny but a little blotchy because I over sprayed a little. I bought some Hankook 235/50-17 Ventus V2 Concept2 AS tires because their overall diameter was 26.1, rather than the usual 26.3 for that size. They give me another .7-inch sidewall height and all the specs are all very close to the OEM wheel and tire. The ride is much smoother with no sharp raps over RR tracks, concrete seams and those overpass patches. I'm really happy with them. I attached a before and after shot.

If we had a local service center, we would probably already have the NX450+ in our driveway. The nearest Lexus dealer is 100 miles away but I travel that way about 2x/month. Then I started reading here. Parasitic draining of the 12v. Keep your fob in the house far away from your car. Get a trickle charger. Never use ACC. Replace the battery immediately. Then the run-flat tires are supposed to be terrible and also need replacing earlier than stated. Loved the this car esp the ride. But this seems a bit ridiculous to pay $6x,000 for a car that needs this kind of babying. Called local Toyota dealership and they will happily change oil, basic maintenance under warranty but will not honor free Lexus dealership service. (Not even sure we would want Toyota working on new Lexus?) Would you buy this car with the nearest service center 100 miles away one-way? Thx for all of your thoughts.

2018 GS 350 FSport Using iMac to transfer music to USB. Car does not recognize USB. I have tried: USB 3 thumbdrive with folders of music files USB 3 thumbdrive with music files directly to root USB 2 thumbdrive with folders of music files UBS 2 thumbdrive with music files directly to root Nothing has worked. I'm feeling pretty stupid here. Any ideas what i'm doing wrong? Is it maybe because i am using an iMac to transfer to the drive?

Hi all, my driver's side rear door is acting like it's locked from the outside, even though it's not. The plastic piece holding the exterior handle in fell off on the freeway. I guess the screw worked itself loose over time or something. I replaced it easily enough, but now the door opens from the inside but not the outside. Any ideas or advice? Thanks in advance!

2024 NX 350 AWD. Recently, I noticed that when I shutoff the car, the 'PARK' sign in red letter comes on on the dashboard. It disappears when I start the car, and put it in D or R. My wife says it didn't do like that a week ago. Any advice?

Headlight Problem, Low Beams not working on 2012 RX 450h
Imbobman replied to Newdadx2's topic in 10 - 15 Lexus RX350 / RX450h
Hi all, I saw this thread here & don't know how old it is but I had a similar problem on my 2010 Lexus RX350. I believe this is similar to the RX450 in some regards.... Got it used in Dec.'23....After going thru the functions of it, I noticed my low beams didn't come on. I Checked bulbs (they were OK), wiring ( was ok, power there) & the next thing I considered was the relay. But instead, I contacted the used car dealer I got it from & they had me take it to a place that specializes in Diagnosis of electrical problems. They were stomped also at first but we both than found the cause. If you go in on the Nav screen, go to vehicle settings& vehicle customization, after you go down into the menus to the 'Light Settings' , there's a setting to turn on/off low beams. On mine, it was turned off, when I set it to 'ON', they worked fine. Previous owner may have shut them off, I don't know. Hope this is of some help for you Newdadx2.... -
Its been almost 6 months the "voltage issue" was resolved and with 22K miles now everything has been going just fine. No problems of any kind. I love this car folks. I have noticed because i m averaging 1K miles weekly that i am now way ahead with my services. I always do the oil changes at 5K but i saw the invoice the other day and @$206/hr for labor it really dramatically adds up. I am wondering are these NYC prices or is this normal? I see they have things down there like "check placement of floor mats on drivers side" and top off fluids that are truly ridiculous with me bringing the car in every 5-6 weeks because of all the miles i put on it. An oil change is about $150 and i mostly deny the other services. I dont even take the free car wash bc it only delays the visit by at least an hour or so. Overall love this car so much and no regrets at all after having a few Dodges,Yukons, Chevys this is glorious. BY 25K miles with my 2019 Yukon i was having a new Transmission put in already.

Dave, Thanks for the response. If you still have your RX400 after all these years that says something about quality and reliability of the Lexus brand which I've read about being rather high. It looks like $50-$55K is about the norm for this vehicle and we got the only red one available in the area so the hybrid wasn't an option although those stats are certainly better. I figure I'm getting about (24-27MPG) depending on driving mode. I'm always in sport mode to compensate for the low HP so mileage is probably taking a hit there. There's only a 10-day return policy and we're a few days past that now so we'll work on getting used to it unless my wife decides she just can't deal with the shifter mechanism and then we'll have to figure something out. In the mean time maybe some free car washes and snacks once a week at the dealer will help lessen the discomfort. 😁

Had a similar issue three weeks ago with my 2024 RX500h at 3,500 miles. Out running errons, restarted the car and got the engine malfunction warning with "contact your dealer immediately. Like with the othjers mentioned here the local service deptartment could not dianose the issue. They provided a loaner and advised me they needed to have an engineer from Lexus (out of Atlanta) run a dianostic. My dealership recommended I might want to initiate a Lexus Buy Back claim incase the car could not be repaired in a timely fashion (which I did). Received a call from my service manager a couple of weeks later with great news - the engineer that came up to dianose the issue was able to correct it. They were able to download an update to software that corrected the logic issue that caused the warning code. 😊 I guess that's the price we pay for enjoying all the benefits of a technically advanced vehicle. Hopes this helps others that have had similar issues with their new Lexus 500h F Sports.
