Cold Air Intakes: Pros And Cons?.
reyoasian replied to tbayer2010's topic in 07 - 13 Lexus IS250 / IS350 / IS-F
To answer OP and to correct LEX-SV... There is no true COLD air intake made for the IS All aftermarket intakes are just a shortram A true cold air intake usually runs longer piping and to the bottom part of the engine bay away from the engine in order to get "colder" air (because heat rises) Now there is a member on clublexus who has done a custom true cold air intake you can take a look http://www.clublexus...lter-setup.html Now for LEX-SV...he has a point but not fully true. Stock intake is not a "cold air intake"...it is simply "colder" compared to ANY aftermarket intakes because it gets air from directly OUTSIDE of the car (if you've looked at the design of our intakes you would know what I mean) However, it doesn't get air from outside + BOTTOM of the car, and there is still interference from engine heat Compared to aftermarket intakes which get air from inside engine bay which is like hot from the engine That's why a lot of people just get a Joe-Z Intake pipe and put in a K&N, FSport, HKS, etc. drop in filter (technically same setup as the FSport intake) because you're running an aftermarket pipe which is where the the gain in power comes, while maintaining the "colder" air from stock intake box This setup doesn't add any noise or growl so some people get the FSport intake box and filter only and use it with the Joe-Z pipe, or simply use stock airbox and cut a hole (if you compared stock and FSport intake box, they are EXACTLY the same except for that hole in the FSport which adds the noise) Many options available for aftermarket though (Takeda, Injen, AME, AFE, etc.) But I particularly like the K&N Typhoon because their intake comes with a heat shield which actually does something (I've went for long and hard drives and after put my hands on both sides of the heat shield and the engine side is noticeably warmer than the intake filter side) As well it's got an amazing growl, makes the V6 sound V8 Only downside is the cleaning part which requires re-oiling.... As for power, all intakes add more or less about 5WHP (Joe-Z pipe with stock airbox dyno proven to add about 6ish for IS250 and 4ish for IS350) Most intake companies claim 10, 12, etc. HP gain is really just marketing BS Even taking into account of power loss from the average 5 WHP, is really just 6-7 BHP gain so 5HP is nothing you can feel in real life at all, people just do it for the sound really as well a better air:fuel ratio because you're intaking much more air into the engine as the stock tube restricts a lot of it ANyways, yeah... -

Not sure if I want to go into synthetics yet as they are quite expensive and also my car is only about 35,000 KM (Yes I'm in Canada). 1. Just in terms of conventional oil, what's a good choice for an 09 IS250 AWD? I see the Castrol GTX on sale for $4/L at Canadian Tire and wonder about how many KM that oil can hold up (I've only done my service at the dealer so far and they recommend 8000KM for the OE oil). 2. Any filter recommendations other than the OE Lexus/Toyota one? I use Bosch on my 07 Acura RDX but I can't find it for the IS250 on the website where I buy parts. 3. This guy that runs a garage near my house (friend recommended so I seem to trust him) carries LiquiMoly 5W40 (some oil from Europe)....anyone have any idea? Thanks a bunch!
-
The receptionist girl at a Lexus service tells me that if I do my oil change outside of the dealer and use an aftermarket oil filter, then my warranty will be void. Is this true? I don't know if I should trust a receptionist person...also they might just want to continue to steal my money from overpriced service. P.S. I'm from Canada and I have an 2009 IS250 AWD. I can't afford oil changes that cost over $100 anymore...and they also keep pushing me to do the full maintenance service which is like $250+...ridiculous...

Anybody recommend a good and reliable bodyshop in the GTA (preferably York Region) for oil change and car maintenance and inspections? The dealer is too expensive, I can't afford to go there anymore. Thanks!

My Back Pains When I Drive Long In My Is
reyoasian replied to rishithen7's topic in 07 - 13 Lexus IS250 / IS350 / IS-F
How tall are you? Taller people tend to have that problem, I get it in both the RDX and the IS, but I put a cushion between the seat and my back and now it's so much better. -
Is250 "power Mode" Vs Is350
reyoasian replied to rykster's topic in 07 - 13 Lexus IS250 / IS350 / IS-F
I agree with all above. PWR mode does nothing but make your engine rev up faster, doesn't do much for power and kills more gas. The guy is just trying to use you to get rid of his inventory, which is full of IS250's. -
This is just a rant I guess... August 2009, I bought an IS250 AWD, MSRP was $46,450 (I'm from Canada btw) including leather seat, moonroof and navi packages. That time, I really wanted the IS350 but it only came in RWD which can be a big problem in the winters here... Now there is the 2011 IS350 AWD, and for a MSRP of $48,700 (just $2,250 more), you get everything from my IS250 PLUS a 3.5 V6 that produces about 100 extra hp and torque, as well as bi-xenon headlamps, better suspensions, better-looking rims, tinted side glass, and other minor things, etc. Wrong time wrong place? I guess life just ain't that fair.... if only Lexus thought of the AWD for the IS350 a year ago *sigh* Don't get me wrong, I still love my car. But being a car enthusiast, performance does count and the IS250 really lacks that. Now, the IS350 AWD would really be what I call a PERFECT car... Beautiful looks, Toyota's reliability, Lexus' luxury & comfort, an AWD system for the horrible winters here, and a 3.5 V6 that produces a crazy 306 HP and 277 Torque while not giving up much gas efficiency. Pursuit of perfection? Hell yeah. Anyways, here's an awesome commercial for those of you who haven't seen it yet...

you can't. It's because your oem tires have tire pressure sensors inside, and if your vehicle is not gettin signal from that then your warning light will come up. there's prety much just 3 things u can do.. 1. get pressure for ur snows, which can be costly 2. put a black tape over the warning light so u dun see it everyday as it can be annoying 3. just ignore everything (which is what i do)

Hi, I have a 2009 Lexus IS250 AWD (I'm located in Canada) I just have a few quick questions about oil change before I call Lexus. I am planning to buy my own oil and filter and take it to Lexus for oil change because maintenance is too expensive. 1) I've been told that Mobil 1 engine oil is the best on the market so just wondering if anyone has experience with it, and if you do, which 1 of these is better: http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/3/AutoFluidsChemicals/EngineOils/PRD~0289420P/Mobil%252B1%252BSynthetic%252BMotor%252BOil%25252C%252B1L.jsp?locale=en http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/3/AutoFluidsChemicals/EngineOils/PRD~0289431P/Mobil%252B1%252BExtended%252BPerformance%252BMotor%252BOil.jsp?locale=en apparently, the extended performance synthetic one lasts 20,000 KM...what about the normal synthetic one? 2) I know that 5W30 is the one to use, but how many Liters/Quarts should do I need? 3) I've also heard K&N is the best filter on the market, is this the right filter and how many KM does it last: http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/AutoCustomPerformance/KNPerformance/PRD~0340200P/K%252B%252526%252BN%252BOil%252BFilter.jsp?locale=en Thanks in advance!

Hi, I have a 09 IS250 AWD (Canadian model) Just asking for opinion on this small problem that I may have with my car Picked up the car August 15th, 2009, and I don't remember when it first happened, probably 1-2 months after. It only happens on the highway. I'd randomly hear this sound, which seems to be coming from the front wheel area (maybe suspension?), and sometimes I feel a vibration on my left foot while it's making this sound. I'm not sure how to describe it, sort of sound like a metal machine having gears moving but sort of getting stuck? I guess, I can put it as friction between 2 metal pieces....really not sure how to explain this, maybe sort of like a horn. The loudness of the sound varies, sometimes louder sometimes softer. It just randomly happens, and it's been happening every now and then ever since. At first I thought it's from the huge trucks driving beside me, but I gave up that thought when I started to feel a little vibration at the foot. I have a friend who has the same vehicle except his is 2006, and I noticed the same thing happens to him when I sat in his car (passenger seat, still feel the little vibration at the foot). He says it's because the road is not evenly paved. Has anybody else have experienced something like this? My maintenance is coming up so maybe I will tell them to check it out. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I am planning to do my first hand clay/wax/paint care job! I bought some new stuff and found some old stuff my dad uses. One of them is a Diamond-Kote GOLD brand "Paint Restorer" What exactly is this and what does it do? I can't find anything about it on Google or their manufacturer website, it's probably a discontinued product. On the label it says: "This product is to be used to restore automotive paint finishes. Fortified with D-K 539 UV Sunscreen. With new improved surface adhesion agent." ^ I guess this is obvious what it does, but my main concern is when should I apply it (before or after clay? before or after Mothers Carnauba Cleaner Wax?) Here is a picture to show what the product looks like:

Hi, after some research on brands and prices I kind of decided to go with the DDM Slim Ballast (35W in either 5000K or 6000K) Does anybody have had experience with them? If so, for how long have you had them, and how do you like it? Also, anybody know where it's made-in? As well, is their "life-time warranty" legit, or just BS? The price is pretty decent right now since it's 50% off from their own site: DDM Slim Ballast Another question is, what do you guys think of 5000K vs 6000K? I do want a little tint of blue that's why I'm not considering 4300K, but I've read reviews on 6000K being too "bait" and it's not as good for visibility in the rain. What do you guys think? Thanks!

2009 Is250 Awd - Hid Kit?
reyoasian replied to reyoasian's topic in 07 - 13 Lexus IS250 / IS350 / IS-F
yeah i been hearing that. but personally i think the 6000k would look better? i got stock xenon on the other car at home and it kind of looks weird with stock halogen fogs.... -
2009 Is250 Awd - Hid Kit?
reyoasian replied to reyoasian's topic in 07 - 13 Lexus IS250 / IS350 / IS-F
Oh, but wouldn't that be halogen projector since my car came with halogen lights? You got two types of headlights. 1. Reflector: The bulb sits in front and the light reflects off a curved shiny surface. You can see the bulb from the front. 2. Projector: The bulb sits behind a lens which shapes the beam and projects it onto the road. All the HID kit does is give you a brighter, whiter light for that projector. I got the MTEC kit in my car for three years now and all I did was change bulbs and put in the ballast kit. Trust me. Thanks! What do you recommend to buy? (not too expensive..) I found this: http://www.ddmtuning.com/index.php?p=produ...1&parent=85 wondering if that's decent...the price seems okay considering this place sells for much more expensive: http://www.hidkits.net/product_info.php?products_id=5 I'm planning to get 35W H11 6000k for lowbeam and 35W 9006 6000k for fog..... -

Another quick question, my friend said I should change the "projector" as well because it will look better, what does that mean? -
Hi, I drive an 09 IS250 AWD (Canadian model), but it only has halogen that's why I want to change to HID along with HID fog as well I'm thinking of going 6000k since any lower doesn't look as good in my opinion, and any higher is illegal here. I just want to get some advices from you experienced pros out there :) 1. where is a good place to buy? (either online or locally in TORONTO to YORK REGION area) 2. what is a good brand for the is250, that won't cause any problems later on and is reliable? 3. what do i exactly have to buy? (full conversion kit? bulb? ballast? i'm new at this....) 4. what is a reasonable price for everything? (low beam + fog together) I wanna get this done before summer hits! Thanks in advance yall!

Hi, I got a letter from Lexus Canada a while ago about a future recall for the accelerator/brake/floormat. Just wondering if anybody got any updated info about the recall, like when they're going to start doing it. I drive an IS250 AWD btw.

09 Is250 Awd - Engine Lights
reyoasian replied to reyoasian's topic in 07 - 13 Lexus IS250 / IS350 / IS-F
So i just got back from the dealer, and this is what's happened: Apparently the wire that connects the ABS to the AWD system in the rear-left wheel has been cut. Possibility 1: It wasn't cut in the middle, it was right at the end of the wire, so perfect you can be 99% sure that it's a cut. But I had my car parked outside in the DAYLIGHT, why the hell would anyone do this? And why would they go specifically for that wire? (Seems like they know something about cars. Also, wouldn't they mind getting dirty under a car? If it's a hater, why not key my car or something? (Although, I'd probably prefer this over the keying because everything is covered under warranty) Possibility 2: Something happened and it just disconnected while driving...? I had no problems and no accidents, so I have no idea how this could've happened.. It's a brand new car, just got it in August... PICTURES (I stuck my camera under the car and tried to take some pictures of the bad wheel and the good one om the rear-right): ---------------------- So Lexus is ordering the parts for it to be fixed from California, and will get it sometime next week, and I probably won't be able to get a service appointment until the week after that. I'm getting my snow tires done tomorrow (without the TPM), so that's another warning that I'm going to get on the dash.... I can already see the fun in driving this car for the next 2 weeks.......... -
dam i wish they had black when i got mine...stuck with silver what colour rims would match a silver is250?

So I'm still deciding on what winter tires to get for my 09 IS250 AWD (Canadian model) Size is 205/55R16 I was pretty decided on the General Altimax Arctic until I found out about these: Gislaved Nordfrost 5 Anyone have experienced or heard about them? How are they in light snow, deep snow, ice, slush, dry ??! How is the traction, handling, tread life, etc.? BTW, I'm getting it unstudded because studding is illegal in Canada. Also, I do mainly local driving just to class and home in Waterloo But on weekends, I do some long distance hwy driving to Toronto and back and during winter break I'll be in Toronto and will probably be taking the hwy anywhere I go. Thanks a lot!
