  1. I too am interested in your situation. I live in Riverdale (Greek town) have a 2000 ES300 with 56,ooo kilometers and warranty runs out next october without any renewal possible. We would be looking at late model 330, either ES or RX. I understand that a new dealer will be opening somewheres downtown, but nobody knows for sure. I also heard that a new Lexus/Toyota dealer will open where they're tearing down Inn on the Park on Eglinton. Neither will be helpful to you if you're buying soon. BTW, I do my regular maintenance at Downtown toyota ans am quite pleased. However thay're not authorized to do Lexus warranty work. befiore I go off warranty I'll have them thoroughly check for items that need work so that Lexus can do it before warranty is over. Hope that works. Good luck.
  2. I've had this happen a few times on my '2000. Sometimes if you've had a small skid, the light will come on. Sometimes it will magically disappear after a short time. Also, if this happened after the gas tank was filled it could occur if the gas cap is not tightened so it clicks about 3 times. There may be other sources for this light being triggered and if it doesn't go away (sometimes after a bump in the road) take it to dealer or someone who can re-set it by taking off the code.
  3. Alan, that's good news for some of us who will be looking to trade for a newer model. Next october the the Gold lexus Plan is over and we'll be looking for a late model, either ES330 or RX330. Must be nice to be reired...
  4. We live in Riverdale, with a back laneway where I have a tight open air parking spot. Since the city was amalgamated, they don't plow the laneway, so the snows really make a difference. Happy to have them on once snow comes, but also can't wait for March to get rid of tire noise on dry roads. Does anyone have snows where the hum on dry roads is minimal?
  5. Lexusfreak, I have Nokeas, from Finland. I can't remember the model of the tire, but it's a long name starting with H. I actually had gotten them for a '96 Infiniti I30 with 15" wheels, but when I got my Lexus last year, the tire dealer (Nantucket in Scarborough) said that they would fit the 16" Lexus and he was right. Refreshing to find an honest dealer. I had gotten quite the deal because I got a quote from him in September when nobody was interested in snows, and he honoured the quote in November. They hold the road well, but are somewhat noisy. The rims are just ordinary steels. I'm not sure that Toyos were available in snows when I bought them, but I had put a foursome of Proxes on the Infiniti and loved the tires. Whenever I need replacements, my first thought will be Toyo.
  6. Definitely snows on all four wheels. I lived in T.O. for 30 years without them and then switched. No contest. I would also get steel rims so that you don't have to keep switching . It saves on your nice rims during winter.
  7. Nice to see that life is good. I'm curious about why windshield is on warranty, since it's definitely wear and tear.
  8. The only time that I noticed a difference was with my 96 infiniti I30, when I used regular grade. from time to time the oxygen sensor indicator would come on and one dealer exlained that I should throw in a tank of premium and that will eliminate the problem. He suggested stay with regular as common practice unless the light comes on. Whether it was true or not, I perceived that the car performed a little better with higher octane, especially on highway.
  9. I agree with those posts that suggest that we're learning lots of useful info on this thread. I am generally not in favour of censorship, but I felt that the occasional flame was changing the tone of the discussion. The occasional censure also reminds people of appropriate netiquette. I too have experience with Honda, and i would never trash their abilities. As a matter of fact, I bought my 2000 ES instead of a 2003 Accord for comfort reasons, since Iwas totally uncomfortable with design of the center console, which doesn't allow for enough space for my right leg. We all have to compromise in many things in life, with cars no exception unless you have unlimited funds for many cars. Keep up the useful posts.
  10. Lexusfreak, No problems with my 2000, except when I got it at 23,000 kilometres, and it the intelligent tranny had accomodated to the "little old man" who was original owner. Got good advice from LOC to disconnect battery so that it would go back to factory setting. Wonderful since then. however, the problems started with the change in model in '02. So I'm curious why Cdn models don't seem to have the problem, and was hoping that Monarch, SK, AMF or StevieJ might have an opinion on this. Thanks
  11. Moderators, i think it's time to pull the plug on some of these posts. I know it's politically correct to be hospitable toward those with alternative views, but this is getting out of hand. Let Hondas go back to their lair, so that you keep up the great job of allowing posts that are enlightening.
  12. Monarch Thanks for response. is there that much difference between the Cdn and US emission and corporate average fuel economy regulations? And why would this influence tranny performance to such an extent?
  13. StevieJ, Need some south of the border info. What does ULEV stand for, and why are Canadian cars exempt?
  14. Sorry, but that explanation from Lexus doesn't pass the 'crap detector' test. If that was to be their new approach to trasnsmissions, why isn't it consistent across all cars being produced since 02? it stikes me that lexus is lucky thus far that this hasn't gotten out to the public and to car rating magazines as yet. i was hoping that my next car would be the ES330 or RX330, but I'm having serious reservations. I have the impresion, perhaps wrong, that this hasn't been reported for Canadian cars. If so, that doesn't make sense because all of the ES's are made in Japan, and the new RX's are now coming from Cambridge, Ontario. Any Canadians have anything to add?
  15. Welcome to the group. I too like the sound of the TL. In considering my next car, which won't be for a few years, I would look at the TL. A major problem, certainly by comparison with Lexus or any Toyota product, is the turning ratio, It's 41' on TL and much less on 330. Unless Acura made improvements, this would be enough to turn me off.
  16. Are you sure that you tightened the gas cap enough. The number of miles traveled may coincide with 2 fillups, with the last one not having cap clicked several times. also, lower grade octane gas might be the problem.
  17. Hey Alan, Nice car, but that ain't Canarsie, or Rockaway. Some of us retired folk don't learn and we're just as busy with professional work, but the difference is in calling the shots about what you do and when you do it. I'm still amazed about how many young people have a lexus and how much they're attached to them...
  18. The plastic rim and spring which hold the cup on passenger side fell off. How does this get fixed? I can't see how the unit comes apart. Has this happened to anyone else, since search didn't produce any entries for this topic. Thanks.
  19. Still trying to figure out what to do with rotors. Several estimates for replacing all 4 pads and rotors is running about $900.Cdn. What I can't figure out is whether it pays to try and get someone to sand rotors. What are the chances that the rust on the ends will go away? Also, anybody in toronto area know of good mechanic who will beat this price? Thanks.
  20. If rust is common and even normal, it makes you wonder why they suggest replacement, as opposed to sanding, for removal. It's a no-brainer that pads are wear and tear and not warrantable, but what I'm trying to figure out is under what conditions the discs themselves are warrantable when I've only gone less than 30, 000. miles. The Toyota service mgr said he would replace them under warranty if it was a camry, but neither 2 lexus dealers or lexus canada would go for it. lexus canada did say it was up to dealer. Since they get reimbursed by lexus for the work, i can't understand why they balk. I'm going to the independent garage I used with my Infiniti and have them pull the wheels for a second opinion. No, I'm not among the handy, but the idea of painting them after either replacement or sanding sounds like a great idea. Thanks
  21. sk, and if it's normal rust, can't it be sanded? A few dealers say they don't do sanding anymore.
  22. I finally went to local toyota dealer to have my 48000 kilometre service. Neither brake fluid nor coolant needed to be replaced. However, all 4 brake pads need replacement, and all discs have rust on inner portion. Service manager suggested i go to Lexus dealer who should relace discs without charge on warranty. he said he would do that for a camry with such low kilometres. Called several Lexus dealers, and said that it's not under warranty because it's wear and tear. called lexus canada and customer service person(generally they know nothing about their products) said it's not under warranty, but I should speak with service department at dealer where I purchased car and see what they'd do. Since that dealership already told me it's nat under warranty, I guess I don't have a leg to stand on. A few questions: 1) Is it unusual for rust to develop on all 4 wheels with low mileage, although the car has been on road since october, 1999? 2) Any suggestions about what I could say to dealer to convince them that they should deem this warrantable? If it's not under warranty, then i would definitely have toyota do the work, since it's same part numbers, and they're less expensive, and 5 minutes from home compared to half an hour for lexus dealer. Thanks.
  23. Thanks for responses. Steviej and skperformance, According to Lexus Canada Schedule, for general service, the only repacements are engine oil and filter, everything else is inspected including removal and inspection of air filter. At 48K, they suggest replacing brake fluid and at 32K replace engine coolant. The spring special from Toyota includes the same stuff as the 2 Lexus dealers who quoted without changing fluid or coolants. I certainly had every intention of going to Lexus for any warrantable jobs. Lexusfreak, The 2 lexus dealers quoting without fluid changes are Scarborough and Don Valley, and the one with the fluid changes is Northwest in Brampton. The Toyota dealer is Downtown. I bought the car as previously owned with 23K a year ago March from Scarborough, and they're only one that has its history. Interesting that lexus doesn't have a shared site for all dealers in case you have to use another dealer. However, I can understand why dealers wouldn't want to do that. Where is your mechanic located?
  24. why not compromise and use 89 octane, which is what I do, given T.O. prices. I use it both for city and hwy driving. just back from trip to nyc and car performed well
  25. My 2000ES300 is due for its 48,000Km (Canada) Service, which is probably equivalent to 30,000 Mile Service in States. I have a range of estimates from 3 Lexus dealers and 1 Toyota dealer. Two Lexus dealers gave me estimates of approximately $190. + tax without brake fluid and coolant flushes. Another quoted $358. + tax including the flushes. They differed as to whether the flushes were necessary or should be done only if inspection suggests the need. Toyota dealer was offering a Spring special of $50. + tax for an equivalent Camry service. When pressed, service mgr said he saw no difference between the special and the usual 48K service for $102. + tax. He thought that flushes should only be done if suggested through inspection. A few questions: 1. Are the flushes necessary at this stage? 2. Would the Toyota dealer's service be appropriate, and especially the Spring special? By the way, Toyota will not be reimbursed by Lexus if they find items needed and under warranty. I have another 18 months left on the Lexus warranty. Thanks
