  1. Old thread, but sorry, that is completely wrong. Max tint is 50% for front side windows, and 35% for the rears and back window.
  2. How does the GS430 compare? It sounds fast as heck!
  3. I wish lawmakers would make some legislation requiring manufacturers to fix any safety problems with a vehicle for free (if it is not the result of an accident or any alteration or misuse). Things like seatbelts, malfunctioning airbag sensors, tilt wheels stuck all the way up (an airbag to the face could do serious damage), etc.
  4. Whoa, do all LS400 rear windows roll down like that? I've never really noticed that! I thought it just went more or less straight down! Do you guys think these kinds of neck pillows are good for dozing off with, or are they mostly for support? I'm about to drive 3 other people on a road trip to Miami in March, and I think having these neck pillows would be a nice touch!
  5. Are there any websites with high resolution wallpapers for the LS400? I can't seem to find much. This is all I could find: http://www.h-class.ru/1/thumbnails.php?album=1692 I modified that photo to make it look a little bit more like a US-spec model (no headlight washer or side fender marker) and attached it. I also cropped it for widescreen monitors. 16:9 aspect ratio.
  6. I did a little searching and found this tutorial for removing strut rods. It's for a '98 but it should apply to most years, I think! http://photoshow.comcast.net/watch/Fj9WH6CM Hope someone else can benefit from this, too!
  7. Bah. I wanted to see the car with the rear curtains extended! So I can see what it would look like in use!
  8. I believe that BP gas contains no ethanol. My 92LS400 gets about 21 MPG going back and forth to work in good weather. It's an 8 mile trip with just a few lights and stop signs. I think it has probably decreased to below 20 lately because of winter, warming it up, etc. It gets 26 MPG on the highway at 65 mph. But, my driving here in SC is all on level ground and it's normally warm. Although... then the A/C gets used every day in the summer. Unfortunately, I don't think this is true of BP gas stations in Virginia. In fact, I think Virginia may have mandated E10, but I have no way to find out?
  9. Maybe it just needs an oil change and a tune up! Don't give up so fast! 120k miles is pretty low mileage for these cars.
  10. This is fantastic news! I hope the problem doesn't come back. Please keep us posted if it does!
  11. Good find. I would not be surprised if a bad knock sensor would cause a CEL on some cars. To the OP, how is your gas mileage?
  12. This is nuts. Yet another feature I didn't know the car had. I was about to post a thread as to why I hear the antenna changing positions when I change stations...
  13. Thanks for the info. I had no idea that the car didn't have air flaps!
  14. Are those neck cushions really comfortable? They look like they'd jut out into my neck! That is, unless they are incredibly soft.
  15. When a excessive brake pad wear is sensed, a "brake wear" message is displayed on the "multi information display" (trip computer) in the instrument cluster of a 98-up LS. I looked more closely today. The ! lights up and then in the display below it says the washer fluid is low. That's simple enough. If the problem isn't resolved by topping up the fluid, I'll post back. Thanks for the responses. Hahaha.... well I was close I guess....
  16. Yep, I bought one (round switches) for my driver's seat. I can take pictures of mine if you want to see what the componets look like in real life. I rigged it up the other day just to make sure it works, and wow, it gets hot instantly. I haven't had the time to drop the seat off to the upholstery guy for installation, but he told me he wants $130 to install the heater in the drivers seat (I'll do the wiring myself).http://www.leatherseats.com/section.asp?sid=7 As for my bling, I hardwired my X50 radar in. I get a lot of compliments on it since it looks so much better without the dangling cord... I'm talking about installing a rear seat heating package. My dream would be to get one off of a UK spec car and implant it into mine with all of the factory wiring and stuff. I'm probably just better saving up for an LS430 with the ultraluxury package.
  17. BAH!!!!!! How come nobody told me that it doesn't work when you push the brake pedal by design?!?!?!?! :chairshot::chairshot::chairshot: Works perfectly fine as it's supposed to!
  18. Very nice. I think the black clashes a little bit too much for me, but it looks nice! Can't wait to see the curtains unfurled. I especially like your exhaust tips! Is it any louder than stock? (I want mine to be as quiet as possible!) From the looks of it, your car has had a lot of rear seat use. Perhaps it was used as executive transport at some point? :) :P
  19. Every road!Highways are typically sloped 2% to the left or right into drainage ditches or curb and gutter. This will cause almost any car to pull to the right (or left depending on the direction of the side slope) when you let go of the wheel (but just slightly). I'm not suggesting that there is an alignment spec that counteracts these tendencies-- I'm saying it's a characteristic of the road that will affect any road vehicle! Not sure where you got the idea that I was saying anything more... amcdonal86, Yes, highways are typically "crowned". Your suggestion that the pulling may be caused by just the crown of the road is a logical suggestion. And yes, the road can effect steering. No, you didn't imply anything else. Also, vtp did say "very slight". Actually 4% maximum is a typically design spec for a road crown. My point is that often a poor alignment job that leaves a vehicle pulling excessively, is often described by the alignment shop as "it's been adjusted for the crown of the road". How can there be an adjusted so that the vehicle drives straight and doesn't pull when a typical driver drives on many different roads, highways, on one side or the other and in different lanes that are sloping left or right? If the steering is effected by the crown of the road, then if you are driving down a highway with two lanes going in the same direction, then according to what you say, the vehicle's steering will exhibit pull to the left when it's in the left lane and left of the crown, and it will exhibit pull to the right when it's driven in the right lane or right of the crown. Then logic says that if you drive the vehicle down the center line that the vehicle should not pull either left or right and the vehicle will track straight. Will the steering pull slightly left or right depending on the crown of the road? - maybe. But most of the time when a driver complains of a pulling steering wheel, it's not caused by any crown of the road, it's caused by a steering system problem, or tire pressure, or several other possible front end problems. In most front wheel drive cars there is NO wheel alignment adjustment for camber, so that leaves bascially caster and toe. If the caster of uneven between wheels, it can cause the steering to pull. Any good alignment shop will test drive the vehicle before and after the alignment, and adjustments can be made to compensate for any pulling, even if the alignment has been done to "specs". In rear wheel drive cars, typically camber, caster, and toe are adjusted. And either camber and caster can cause excessive steering pull. To many drivers, even a continual very slight pull in the steering wheel can very noticeable and very annoying.
  20. Do you have a URL for the seat heaters you're referring to?
  21. You get to it in the wheel well. I'm referring to the bracket that attaches the shock and spring assembly to the lower control arm (I probably should have been more clear). This is what I'm referring to, see how the strut rod is blocked in by that bracket.... Thanks again for the info blake918.
