  1. Does the 05 RX 330 have an iac valve?? and drive by wire? Thanx
  2. The Mobil-1 filter probably has good filter media,But they have weak anti drain back valves.
  3. Probably the best/easiest thing to do is abandon the existing cooler, and buy a new one to put up front.Just leave some space between the trans cooler, and the a/c condenser.
  4. I have a RX330 (2006) with navi. I can go to the climate screen and manully adjust the AC button with out using the Auto. Do you have NAVI? pretty much all systems allow you to bypass the auto settings.

  6. I use premium all the time and I do not believe those engineers saying premium does not help because the car runs better on premium, smoother acceleration, more oomph, when i put regular, the car runs just like that, regular. So how can they say premium is unnecessary? Just a personal opinion and experience. Brother,I agree with you big time! I can certainly tell the difference.
  7. Many Toyota 4WD/AWD vehicles have had ATF overtemp detection lights on the instrument panel since the late 1980's. My 1991 Toyota Previa AWD (which does have 225,000 miles on it) has an ATF overtemp light (primarily useful when towing) - the same reason the RX has one. The Previa also will not shift into overdrive until the coolant warms up - a standard Toyota feature. But yet no one I have asked has yet to see their a/t temp light come on.Either their not hooked up at all,or the temp that they come on is ridiculous.
  8. Yes, I checked the oil level and the oil is very clean. I'm going to run it, with a wait and see. Can any one suggest a good lifter additive? Thanks I can tell you I got very good results, as far as eliminating lifter noise, from a product called Engine Restore. That being said, I did not use the product on my Lexus, but on my former vehicle, a '93 Ford Explorer with the 4.0 OHV. Our Lexus engines are Overhead Cams, so lifter noise should not be as much of an issue, IMO. I would also tell you that I am a firm believer in synthetic oil. I'm running Mobil 1 5-30 plus their filter in my Lex. In my Explorer I used Castrol Syntec. I sold it to my brother-in-law two weeks ago, and with over 240,000 miles on it, the engine still did not use any appreciable amount of oil, and ran perfectly. Hey ricco I`m just curious, why are you a firm believer in synthetic oil?? Good question, and there are many reasons why I use only synthetic. Synthetic oils were developed from jet turbine technology...engines were mandated by federal regulations to continue to rotate even if shut down, and the temps at 35,000 feet are often less than -50F. Regular petroleum oil solidifies at this temp, and ceases to be a lubricant, whereas synthetics continue to flow and lubricate. On the other side of the temp scale, synthetics break down at much higher temps than petroleum oils, thus offering extended protection in an overheat situation. Also, synthetics don't "gel", a common problem with the 3.0 liter engine run with petroleum oils. Assuming you drive normally, you can change your oil at extended intervals. I remember the first time I put synthetic oil in my car...it was in 1994, in the wintertime. The low that night was about 10 degrees F, and when I went out to start my car the next morning, I was amazed at how easily it turned over...like it was 80 degrees. I was sold from that alone. I am sure there are many benefits in addition to the ones I have listed. One thing for sure, the only benefit from using petroleum oil is the cheaper price...but in my opinion it would be "penny-wise and pound-foolish" to do so. My two cents. Very good explanation. :D

  10. We bought the car in 2003, it was three years old with 39,000 miles, as a Certified Lexus used car. We used premium fuel for about a year. During that year the car had numerous periods of gas-knock. The dealer service department kept telling us that the gas was bad. We changed brands numerous times and still had a periodic gas knock. A Toyota tech told me that the engine, transmission, and drive-train was exactly that same as a Toyota Highlander and no Highlander owner he new EVER used premium fuel. Since then we've used regular fuel [ 87 octane ] in it with good results, but once in a while it will get a bit of a gas-knock. When that happens I just pull the ECM fuse for a minute or so and the problem is solved. The Toyota tech told me that after the ECM fuse is pulled/replaced the computer will then sdjust to the fuel currently in the tank. He also recommended a can of " Seafoam " in the gas tank about every six months. So far he's been " right on the money ". While the car was under the " Certified " time period it was serviced at the Lexus dealer. During this time I encountered various instances of complete incompetence by the service department! There were two instances where they put the oil-drain plug in " finger-tight ". That's right, I get under the car and check on EVERYTHING! Another time the engine would idle about 2000 RPM. I took the car to the dealer several times only to be told " no problem found ". Finally after two months of high-idle probelms the check-engine light came on. Only then did the service department find a problem with the Idle Speed Control valve and replaced it under warranty. It seems that the Lexus techs can't solve a problem until the computer points it out for them. The AIC valve never once came up as the possible cause of the problem. It would seem to me that since the Toyota techs work on MANY times the vehicles that Lexus techs ever see that a Toyota dealer would be the obvious choice for service once a Lexus is beyond the factory warrant period. Here in Virginia Beach one of the Toyota dealers is also owned by the owner of the only Lexus dealer. Guess which Toyota dealer refuses to do ANY service work on a Lexus, even an oil/filter change! Dont you notice any power/performance loss or anything on 87 octane?? There has been no noticable difference in performance since using 87 octane fuel. We usually use BP regular and get about 16-17 MPG in town and about 26-27 MPG on trips. Premium fuel in this area is usually about $ .30 higher per gallon than regular. There is no need to use premium fuel in THIS RX300. Maybe the newer RX's need it but this one works great on regular! Even the new Highlanders and Camrys don't need premium fuel, and the RX's use the same engine/power-train as they do. Yeah I have used 87 octane already.Runs pretty good except I can tell the difference on the highway.AND when the winter fuel comes out,It really has no power on regular.

  12. Lenore, It`s actually a popular company over here in PA. It used to be a Pennsylvania based product. Then Amalie out of FL (I believe) bought them .And is still a very good oil.
  13. Go online under amaliestore.com
  14. I`m not using the mobil atf, but the Wolfs Head(Amalie)full synthetic fluid. It has never shifted better! I don`t think the Toyota fluid holds up well at all. Also,be sure your mechanic uses the Toyota red coolant! The Toyota coolant cant be beat.
  15. In my comparisons I get 1-2 MPG improvement using premium. I would agree that driving style can impact MPG but for me the improvement was enough to offset the slight increase in cost. I actually noticed a slight Improvement of around 2mpg`s on regular fuel. But the performance decrease on the highway is noticeable.
  16. I believe your much better off going to a good independent shop. Ask around, your friends etc.Word of mouth is pretty powerful.
  17. When they installed my battery yesterday, pretty basic, but they install a 9volt battery in the lighter to keep the computer and radio settings. They said if you did not do this the car wont start for 30 minutes.....I think thats wrong. "They said if you did not do this the car wont start for 30 minutes....." WHAT the Hell are they talking about???!! They better just stick to selling parts, and thats all!! Well they have to make it look like they know more than you. Yeah I suppose your right about that.

  19. "I really think it's silly that Lexus doesn't use the same ECU map as Toyota for the 87 octane stuff." BINGO!! Theirs`s the answer right their! Lexus maps the ecm for premium!
  20. The way it feels on regular,I think it retards the timing more than 2 degrees. Feels more like 3 or 4 Degrees.
  21. Not so radio,the vvt-i motor is interference.Only the non vvt-i is not. 1MZ-FE: -3.0L -aluminum alloy block -lightweight internals -OBD 2 -returnless fuel system 97+ -non interference for non-VVTi, interference for VVTi -COP ignition -multiport fuel injection -forged powdered metal fracture split connecting rod -drive by wire certain models/years -engine hp/trq (several revisions) *94-96: 188hp @ 5200rpm / 203ftlb @ 4400rpm *97+: 192hp @ 5300rpm / 209ftlb @ 4400rpm *97+ (solara specific): 200hp @ 5200rpm / 214lbft @ 4400rpm (gains from improved exhaust/intake plumbing) *99+ with VVTi: 210hp @ 5800rpm / 220ftlb @ 4400rpm -found in USDM *94-06 Toyota Camry *99-03 Toyota Solara *97-01 Lexus ES 300 *99-03 Lexus RX 300 *95-04 Toyota Avalon *98-03 Toyota Sienna -vehicles with VVTi 1mzfe *03-06 Toyota Camry *00-04 Toyota Avalon *01-03 Toyota Highlander *99-01 Lexus ES 300 *99-03 Lexus RX 300 *01-03 Toyota Sienna
  22. Yeah,the 1mz-fe vvt-i is interference.The non vvt-i is not. I`m still gonna go 120k before I do the belt.
