  1. I'm fully aware of my ps pump leaking poblem on my 92LS. One week ago I went to my local Toyota to have a look at just bad the leak is. Mechanics there told me in addition to the pump leaking, there are two more additional leaks: --Power steering rack is leaking --High pressure power steering line is leaking What exactly do rack and "line" function in the ps assembly? I just want to fixed the one problem that has the potential to fry my alternator. Which leak should I fix? I'm on a tight budget ;) Thanks!
  2. I went to my local crafts store and brought a wooden stick....perfect for holding the hood up.....when not using it simply hide it under the carpet in the trunk. I also glued magic tape at the ends so it will stick to the under carpet. Very nice!
  3. My vibration doesn't seem to be temperature dependent....I live in Tucson, Arizona and it is around 103 F here today. The vibration starts at 62 mph, to be exact, and stops at 80mph no matter what day of the year or what road condition I'm on. At 85 mph and above it is silky smooth. I once tried it up to 102 mph, and it seems that the faster it gets, the more smooth it is! 90LS400, does your steering wheel vibrate also? It seems like only my seats (front and rear) vibrates. I'll have the transmission mount fixed. Thanks for all the help! B)
  4. Like some other first generation LS400's, my 92LS have vibration problems when going at speed of 65-70 mph. It vibrates more at the rear. I went to a Toyota dealer to have this checked out. They come up with four issues: 1. Upper control arm is loose 2. front shocks is leaking 3. struts are bad 4. transmission mount is bad. I just wanted to know which one of these issue is the primary cause of vibration? (assuming I have new tires). Fixing all of them will cost me a fortune....upper control arm bushing alone costs $1225.99 to fix. Thanks
  5. Hi, Owner of a 92 LS400 w/Pioneer radio, no CD changer... Actually, my cassette player has been bad for 8 months now. Just wondering if anybody know if there is any common problem with Pioneer cassette player going bad (belts, etc.). I inserted a cassette into the slot while the radio is on, the display changed to "play" for about 2 seconds, then it switched back to FM radio. I then pressed the TAPE button. Again, the display changed to "PLAY" for about 2 seconds and then switched back to radio. Any ideas?
  6. THanks guys. Now I'm very worried! Guess I should do a major tuneup soon....it will cost me a fortune but it will be rewarding in the end. I'm planning to keep my LS until final failture just like everybody on this forum do, hopefully. Now, is it the oil itself that's causing the short circuit in the alternator or is it the heat from the oil that's burning up the alternator?
  7. Folks, My 92LS is going through 1 bottle of p/s fluid each month ever since I purchased the vehicle, for 7 months now. Just exactly how much p/s fluid does it take to ruin the alternator? Right now I feel like I'm driving a time bomb. The sooner it fails, the sooner I can replace it and get over with this time bomb feeling. I know it sounds awkward to say this, but "should it fail by now?"
  8. Actually, I've had this problem for quite a while now. Neither of the two vents on the rear of the console in my 92LS have air coming out of it, even if I open the vent with the black dial on the right. I tried all different settings from my front climate control (fan always on High) but nothing worked. When I'm saying no air, I mean absolute NO air flow....nothing....dead calm. Just wanted to have some ideas on what could be the cause of this problem. Does the two rear vents have their own blower motor or are they just bypass flow from the front? Could it be a broken valve somewhere inside air pipe thats been blocking the air flow? And could it be a stupid fuse somewhere?
  9. Hello again, I found the kick panel and had to pry it open using a flat screwdriver. The fuse box then is right there in front of me. I couldn't find the "fuse pull-out tool" so I had to yank fuse no.2 out with a pillar. (your neck do get sore after a while) turned out it was not the fuse thats causing the problem, so I had to assume the worst...lightbulbs. But I did find a burnt out fuse that turned out to be the cigarette lighter fuse, which stopped working several months ago--fixed something unexpectedly today. I'll buy the bulbs. Thanks for all your replies
  10. Yes I made sure the low beam is on. I did this at night...turned on foglight switch and went in front of the car to see it, but noooooooooo.. I'll look for this kick panel tonight....will let you guys know how it goes. I hope its the fuse because those bulbs are not cheap...H3C type, $25 per bulb!
  11. I don't have any air coming out from my two reat vents, no matter what setting I put on the a/c control panel. ;)
  12. First of all, are you stating assumptions or are you stating actual problems with your vents? Usually if one of the vent blew warmer air than other vents while a/c is on, you probably need to recharge your freon.
  13. Just read through my manual. LS has Foglight fuse located in the driver's side kick panel as opposed to the IS, which is in the passenger side. The problem is, I can't find this kick panel. The manuel drew a transparent outline of the car and shows two fuse box floating inside. The driver's side kick panel looks like it directly above the front driver's side wheel, but I couldn't find it under the hood...I then tried from inside of the car, but can't find it either! Just needed to know how to gain access to this fuse kick panel so I can see what exactly is wrong with the foglight. Thanks
  14. Hello, Ever since I purchased my 92 LS400 6 months ago, I never touched the foglight switch.....I may have forgotten that it existed. Well last night I noticed the switch, which I twisted it on while the headlights are on. Nothing happend. The two yellow foglights both didn't light up. I would guess the chance of both bulbs burn out is very slim. Could there be a fuse somewhere that controls the foglights? if not, usually how long do these bulbs last?
  15. Did your father disconnected the battery or just simply moved it out of the way? Lexus have anti-theft codes on both the radio deck and the CD Player. Ask your brother for the code.
  16. I replaced my aftermarket radio with a Pioneer radio system. I noticed there are two holes where the antenna should go to. The larger hole is for the main antenna. Then, according to a website, there is also a sub antenna hole. I can't find any cable or wire that plugs into this hole. What is this sub antenna hole used for? I'm just curious. Please see image
  17. Today I replaced my aftermarket radio with a Pioneer radio system. I noticed there are two holes where the antenna should go to. The larger hole is for the main antenna. Then, according to a website, there is also a sub antenna hole. I can't find any cable or wire that plugs into this hole. What is this sub antenna hole used for? I'm just curious. Please see picture
  18. Also, I can't find a plug that goes into the "sub antenna" hole. See attached photo. Is there supposed to be a plug that go in there?
  19. Hello, I just replace my aftermarket radio on my 92 LS with a Pioneer cassette player (no CD changer). However, after putting everything back I found that the cassette is not working . I got this Pioneer system from eBay, and the seller said I do not need radio code. Do I have to set my own code in order for the cassette player to work? In other words, is it still protected by the anti-theft system? I'm pretty sure that I installed everything correct, because the radio and everything else works. When I insert a cassette into the slot while the radio is on, the display changed to "play" for about 2 seconds, then it switched back to FM radio. Any ideas?
  20. Pioneersuby, The radio deck I purchased is not a CD changer capable radio. I just wanted to get rid of this aftermarket radio currently installed. It simply looks ridiculous. Plus, to change the volume you need a remote control. If you lose the remote then the radio is useless. I'm pretty busy recently and haven't checked the trunk for the amplifier yet. I don't need the CD changer cable. But if I did find my amplifier missing, can you sell me one of those Pioneer Amps? I'll be greatly appreciated. I'll post it later to let you know if the amp is in the trunk or not. Thanks!
  21. Thanks for the reply! If the subwoofer amplifier in the trunk is missing, can I still listen to the radio (AM, FM, cassette etc.), since the radio itself contains the 4 door amplifier?
  22. Oh one more thing....after winning the bid, make you ask the seller for the radio code. This is very important. Usually the seller will clear the current code for new owner. But ask just to be safe. I also got my LS400 radio deck from eBay. The seller was kind enough to give me the four mounting screws at no additional cost I'm going to need it when I install the deck. Good luck on the installation! B)
  23. So is that left side or right side? Is it sitting on one of the sides in the trunk or is it under the trunk? Do I need to peel off some carpet to see it?
  24. Hello there, I'm also in the process of changing my stereo. You are in luck, as first generation GS and first generation ES uses the same radio deck. Make sure you get one that have the "CD" button it. I asked several people if one of those radio deck will fit on a first generation LS, and they said no! How pity... You will also need a 16 foot DIN cable that runs from the radio deck to the CD Changer. This cable not only provides the signal command from your radio to the changer, it also provides the electrical power as well. I think the hardest part is the cable, as Lexus dealers do not carry them as a parts list. The cable and CD changer both comes from the factory as a single unit. You can try a Junk yard for the cable, or have someone custom make it for you. Good luck!
