  1. Oh, Hows the Bosch alt? Should I go with the Denzo? Any others? Pete
  2. Next anti-lock light, Then lights flickering when the brake pedal is depressed. Lights dim when the windows are in use. Then lights out all together when the HVAC system is turned on. Then shut the car off, Try to restart, clickety clack. Hmmmmm now what could this be ;). Pete
  3. Hey guys, So I'm sitting in my driveway last night, I look down at the dash and my Add oil, Add coolant, Parking brake and battery light all come on at once. Obviously Im not taking the actual warnings seriously. What could have caused this?? Peter
  4. ok. I just figured I'd let you guys know that my starter ( start up sequence ) has been normal for the last week or so?? Don't really know what's going on here...? Pete
  5. I was just quoted $798 (ouch) with the Denso by a very reputable lexus technician. He did valve seals on my 95 ES back in 01'. I mean, How involved is this job? My buddy is a chrysler mechanic and said he'd do it for $75 lol, I don't think he knows what he's in for. What do you guys think, I'm really not into dropping 8 big ones right now. I sure could use some alternatives if there are any... :( Pete Oops, Sorry for the double post.

  7. Ok, 1) About 2 months ago I noticed an additional noise to my startup sequence. A kind of resonating oscillation after the starter disengaged. It came on gradually, I thought I may have been imagining it until one morning during a cold start I just didn't hold the key long enough for her to fire. When I released the key I could hear very clearly what I suspected. Indeed a difficult noise to describe. Sort of a light grinding/shaking sound It only lasted a second or 2, It's duration was proportional to the engine fan coming to a halt after cranking. I've heard many other toyota's with a similar sound. Anyway, That persisted. It did not however affect the start up. Cranking time, speed and pitch (sound) have been the same as always......Until today. 2) Now there is a distinct change in pitch. The engine cranking is deeper and accompanied my more resonating sounds. Still starts right up but sounds more like my buddies 2000 V8 tundra when it's turning over. I think it's cranking a bit slower. Ill have too see tomorrow morning when it's cold since she gives me a good 2 seconds of cranking before she fires. Any thoughts.....? Pete
  8. Cmon guys. Surely my LS can't be the only one to encounter this. Let me know what I'm in for. Pete
  9. Hello guys, It's been a while since I posted here, My 1992 LS now has 122k on it (purchased with 113k). So far so good. About 2 weeks ago I noticed the appearance of a new sound on start up. The car continues to crank and fire normally however, after the engine fires I can hear the starter spooling down after it disengages. Kind of a whirring noise. If I just whack the key to start and release it quickly before she fires it can be heard clearly, as the combustion sounds are not interfering. As I said the start up sequence is fine except for this additional noise. Im hoping for the best. A new starter at 120k is not a very common scenario on these vehicles......As I have been lead to understand. Pete
  10. 3 months and 4k miles later my 92 LS is running great (118k). Thing is I decided to get on it a bit and I noticed a significant pause (lasting about .25 seconds) accompanied by a pneumatic sound (pulling or discharging) under heavy acceleration. I have to get her through about 3700-4k on the tach to notice it. Most noticeable shifting through 1st and 2nd. Thanks, Pete
  11. Hey guys, Thinking of cleaning my TB today. Was just wondering if I can cut my own gasket? I have tons of gasket material laying around. BTW, Flushed the coolant a few days ago. I'm sure many of you know the left and right drain !Removed! are a pain in the !Removed!. I had to get a 18" extension and slip it between the R+P boots, This gave me enough space to put some muscle on it and break it loose. Thought I should contribute something here, No matter how small. Regards, Pete
  12. hello guys. Just curious. I don't think my idle is as smooth as of could be. I've done the seafoam treatment but have mixed feelings about cleaning the T.B. Where should I begin? Also. Just finished cleaning my tranny filter yesterday. Everything went smoothly but today of seemed to hesittate when shifting into D. Although I did notice the shifting is much smoother. Thanks guys. Peter.
  13. hello guys. I noticed a torn boot on the passengers side of the rack. I threw some lithium grease in there and taped it closed as a temp until I get a new boot. I noticed the steering feels slightly tighter now. Is this alright for a little bit? Thanks, pete
  14. hey buddy. I just used the tutorial for instaling an aftermarket shifter to get in there and cleaned and WD'd everything. It still does it but no where near as frequently. Pete
  15. I know. I was beggining to feel a bit retarded.
  16. Just came back from my buddys garage. He said my problem is a frozen caliper. That would explain the heavy brake dust accumulation on the front right wheel and why the cae does not move while in drive with the brake pedal up among other symptoms. Guess I lucked out. Pete.
  17. Ok, Kind of feel like I am beating a dead horse here but I noticed something els. After driving more then 10 miles continuously now I'm hearing a kind of pulsating/surging noise (its frequency proportional to wheel speed). Seems like once I start to hear it it gets worse and worse until I stop or let the car cool for a while. When this happens and I stop I notice the brakes ( I think the front right) grabbing more, When I release the brake pedal I get the familiar brake grind noise for a short time even after the pedal is fully up. Thanks, Pete
  18. Ok. Did a little research. Most likely the wheel bearing or axle. Sound about right? Is it ok to drive on it for a while? Would like to get to it on Sunday.
  19. hey guys. Last night on the way home I noticed my car had an unusual vibration around 30 mph. Today taking an easy left at 15-20 mph noticed a clicking sound. I suspected something going on a while back with the rightside suspension up front and since I've been back to work I've put more of a beating on her since I have to hop the cur. Twice a day to park, I do it nice and easy but there's no way to square off so I always hit at an angle. Anyway I'm sure this is a common occourance and want to see what you guys think. Thanks in advance. Pete.
  20. Well I just threw in the 2 pack while I was in there, Maybe sometime this weekend Ill get back in there and do the rest. Thanks guys! Pete
  21. Ok, I'm sure I could figure this on my own but as you know Im pulling on 16 year old plastics and it makes me nervous. Im trying to replace my drivers side top stop light (the one which illuminates when the brake is depressed) I went through the trunk and removed the lining which revealed some kind of metal housing, I see two plastic tabs also, I tried working like a gentleman but had no luck and like I said I'm not comfortable with forcing anything. Looking forward to some help Peter
  22. Thanks buddy. I appreciate it. Probaly get on it Tuesday if the weather is good.
