I might suggest you start a different thread with the no-start issue, people must be passing this up because of the topic title.

Full Detailing With Ultima
SW03ES replied to detaildoc's topic in Lexus Detailing and Car Care Forum
Especially in pictures they always look good. We'll know more once I get around to using the Ultima. -
Oh of course. Everything made for the Lexus is made by Toyota, but the individual blades are very different. All Bosch blades aren't the same, all Trico blades aren't the same. I've used both, and the blades from Lexus wipe cleaner, operate more quietly, and last longer.

This Guy Really *bleep*es Me Off, Someone Help Plz!
SW03ES replied to doesntmahsnsuk's topic in General Chat
Yeah, people who conduct themselves in the manner this guy did in your exchange aren't worth your time. -
Okay, so lets say for the sake of argument that if you drive on that road lets say that the clear bra won't make a difference. But, most of the country's population does not drive on that road. For the rest of them I know the clear bra will absolutely make a difference because I've seen it first hand. I know for a fact saving the $600 won't have the same effect, the front end of my own car is the proof.

Now, he's right when he said there were some manuals but not that there were turbos. The SC300 NEVER came with a turbo, whether its a manual or not. -
It all depends on your budget. Those are pretty junky looking IMHO, but they're better than the ripped and torn seats.
-
I think you have your discussions mixed up. Nobody has said anything here about clear bras. We're talking about polishing headlamps vs replacing them.
-
Thats great, but its not what we were talking about. We were talking about 2-3 year old lease returns.
-
Yep, I park away from others or in end spaces where I can get as far away from the other car as I can. There's actually a whole website devoted to this lol, although I don't remember the site.
-
But the VAST majority of leases are 36 months. I would never buy a 5 year old car used anyways, lease or not. I'm talking about what you were talking about, off lease vehicles 2-3 years old. 75% of all leases are 36 month leases. From your original post:
-
We'll see! Don't bet on it though ;)
-
Actually no, I completely disagree with that statement. If you're talking about looking at 2-3 year old cars, I think you probably have better luck finding a lease return because most of them will be lease returns.
-
Must be, give those a try.

When have I said anything about saving its value. Let me highlight some of my post so you can better understand my position. When did I say anything about the value of the car? I know several people who live in Texas and have had clear bras for years with no problems. "My little $600 clear bra"?, why does every discussion with you have to get so nasty?
-
That still absolutely makes no sense. If you think its worth it to spend over $1,000 and then hours underneath the car trying to get them installed vs buying some polish and a rag and polishing the lamps for 30 minutes...then you seriously need to have your head examined. Its not about being cheap, its about not setting money on fire and then shooting it through the garbage disposal. Why throw something away and replace it for thousands of dollars when it simply needs to be cleaned?!?! Your analogy of trying to clean a hot water heater makes no sense. Hot water heaters have a usable life. When they reach that life (10-15 years btw) then it makes no sense to try and service them or clean them out. You're talking about replacing a valuable component when it has not at all reached its usable life simply out of the fact that it physically does not look good. Its like replacing the water heater even though it works fine because it has a scratch on it. This is the detailing forum. Polishing yellowed headlamps so that they look as good as the rest of the car is part of detailing. It isn't the "just replace any part that gets dirty or needs to be polished or protected" forum. How is polishing the headlamps any different from polishing the paint? Its simply a part of the detailing process. Does it make sense to wash the whole car and leave the wheels dirty? To polish the car and not seal it? But you do maintain the headlamps. You wash them, and your car is garaged. Its not an issue if your car is garaged.

Try and find a set of Turanza LS-Vs. Tire Rack still has them I think.

Do you drive I-10 in Houston twice a day every day? And the roads are far better maintained there than they are here. The constant hot and cold and all the snow equipment really tear the roads up and that creates a lot of stones for cars to spit up onto your car when you're driving down the highway. A car is a diminishing return. But why do you detail it? Why do people repair damage to their cars when they get damaged? Why bother washing them? Why buy touch up paint? Why insure them for anything but liability or catastrophic loss? Why do paintless dent repair companies exist? The fact of the matter is people care about their car's appearance. If you care about the condition and appearance of a new car, and rock chips specifically bother you, then I strongly urge you to have a clear bra installed. If you do it when the car is new they can wrap it into the financing and you'll never even notice the couple dollars per month. Just read the forums here for the new cars and listen to the complaints about rock chips. Cars will get marks and chips, but the issue nowadays is much worse because of the new paints. For $600, the front of your new car will never get a rock chip.

But I, like many other people here, enjoy detailing. I could easily afford to pay someone top dollar to detail my car but I don't because I enjoy doing it myself. For my car, just the headlights WHOLESALE are $350 a side unshipped. Now for me its not an issue because my car is pretty new and its been maintained well from the start. I don't have any fading or clouding in my headlamps. Say a 98 LS400? $340 a side WHOLESALE. That also doesn't take into account the fact that if you have significant yellowing and clouding once you replace the headlamps you'll need to replace the turnsignals and the foglamps too. For my ES the turnsignals are built into the headlamps, but the foglights are $170 a side wholesale. On a 98 LS the turnsignals are $80 each wholesale, and the foglamps are $135 a side. So to replace all the lamps on my ES it would be $1,040 just for the parts wholesale. On a 98 LS you'd be looking at $1,110. Again thats just PARTS, wholesale, unshipped. Then you've got to figure out how to remove them, install the new ones, make sure everything is aimed properly. OR I could just get the right polish, tools, and polish the ones I have in 30 minutes. So, unless my time is worth $2500 an hour or so its definately better to polish them. OR you could pay a detailer $150 and he'll do it for you. Still a much better option.

I went through and cleaned that up. I'm having problems figuring this out. Are you trying to say the SC300 came with a turbo or turbos or is he? The SC300 never came with any turbos from the factory. -
If she's *BLEEP*ed off thats on her, nobody here said anything that was incindiary or rude. Oftentimes people like her who join forums to complain about something like this aren't interested in anything but complete agreement and when they don't find that the forum holds no usefulness for them.
