  1. Did you ever get your SC fixed? I am having the same problem and am interested what was the actual fix??!! Thanks in advance.
  2. Well I changed the fuel pump out, along with the fuel filter which by the way was a factory original. So I had to fabricate a little to get a new one on. It still will not run. So I had it towed to a lexus dealer. Hopefully it won't cost to much. Well I got an answer to my problem. It was the fuel pump. But, Upon further review I Bought an oem fuel pump Installed it with the factory harness and it fired right up. Well not right up but it started. I let it idle for about 15 minutes and then it died but it started right back up. I drove it for about 3 miles and could not keep it running in drive while stopped. I know there is a vaccum leak somewhere but have not found it yet. I also replaced te EFI relay. That was yesterday. Today it is doing the same thing it did before I put the new pump in, just cranks and cranks. the diagnostic says RPM sensor. Has anyone ever had a problem like this? Has anyone ever had a problem in the way they park a vehicle like on an inclined driveway. Pleassssssssssse somebody HELP?? Tonyw, Did you ever find the fix for your SC? I also ran into the same problem today. Got in and tried to start the car. It cranks but no ignition. I park on a slight incline. I opened up the gas tank filler cap, and found fuel pushing up to the top of the filler neck. Anyone have any ideas what is the problem. It has been super hot these past few days in N. Calif. Fuel ECU? Ign Coil? Please! I need help.
  3. I don't remember the wire color, but it should match the existing wires that are dangling. Pull apart the wire bundle to the right of the right trunk support to try and locate the point where the wires were pulled off from the wire bundle. The owner may not have pulled it out. The way the wires are routed probably caused it on its own over time.
  4. Most likely, it will be the wire is cut or pulled apart around the right trunk support. I looked at the wires on my 1992 SC400 and found the wires pulled apart. I spliced the wires, and everything works fine. Easy ten minute fix. Pair of wire strippers, and electrical tape is all you need, or if you are good at soldering, that will work too. After I fixed the wires, I relocated the routing of the wires so it doesn't pull so tight when the trunk is opened.
  5. My 92 sc400's AC also is getting weak. It takes a long time for the AC to get cold. Could my problem also be a bad low pressure sensor? And where is it located? Easy access? And how much? Thanks in advance!
  6. Ditto. My 92 SC400 also has a very short range for the remote to work, and no beep. Batteries were no help.
  7. I went to a Toyota dealership with my SC400 regulator part and they couldn't find me a match. My Lexus dealer isn't 170 miles away though. I have ordered from Park Place Lexus in Plano Texas online and found them to be very decent priced. A regulator was about $115. Here's the website link: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ind...amp;catalogid=0
  8. If you hear the motor going, then I suspect you have a bad window regulator. If you hear nothing, perhaps it's the motor. I bought a new regulator online from a Lexus dealer for about $115. Motor costs a lot more.
  9. I say just drive it til it dies if u don't want to spend anymore money on the car. Otherwise, if u can't live with the difficult starting issues, at least get that part fixed. Like u said, possibly an IACV. I have the same creaking issue over bumps, and I took someone's suggestion and sprayed silicone lube on the bushings and it seemed to help a lot. I would look into the coolant leak also so u don't get stranded on the side of the road. That fix could might you some money. My final thought is that even if u spent another two to three thousand dollars, you are still at the break even point if the car is running great when u decide to get rid of it. Any more money, and u may be dumping in money only for the love of the Lexus.
  10. I had the same thing happen to me on a 1997 Toyota Camry, and it was an idle control valve that would go bad. Not sure if different Toyota motors have similar problems. Just a thought.
  11. Basically I'm talking about the lower control arm LCA bushings. If you search the site here or on Lextreme, there are photos of what I'm talking about. From what I've read on this site, the LCA bushings are known items that go bad with time on these SCs. I sprayed and soaked them from underneath the vehicle with WD40. Just be careful not to overspray on other components just in case. I currently have the same problem, any chance you can be more specific on where you sprayed the lube? Thx bro

  13. My timing belt on my 92 SC400 broke last month. I didn't take it to a specialty shop, but I told them what I was told (from this forum) that the 1UZ-FE was a non-interference motor. Anyway, the timing belt was replaced along with my water pump. Car started up with no problems. They didn't check the compression on the cylinders though. They did tell me their manual shows the 1UZ-FE as an interference motor.
  14. I took 4.0 LS's advice, and it seemed to help out a lot. I sprayed WD-40 on all the rubber bushings I saw underneath, and the noise level decreased dramatically. Thanks 4.0LS.......
  15. Whenever I go over a speed bump in a parking lot, both the front and rear shocks make loud dry "creaking" noises. Are my shocks bad, or are my struts bad? Or both? After dumping a lot of money on a busted timing belt, and fixing a coolant leak between the engine block and the tranny, I don't want to have to spend a lot of money for this problem. The car still drives and handles really nice other than when I go over these speed bumps. Any cost estimates for parts and labor on these items???
  16. My 92 SC400 timing belt just snapped on me while I was cruising at 70mph. No damage to the engine whatsoever. I did need a new idler pulley and tensioner though. Eng runs just like before the timing belt broke.
  17. Well, I got the car back from the shop. They found coolant leaking between the eng block and the tranny. They dropped the tranny, and found coolant leaking from the "seal plate". They replaced the gasket and it hasnt leaked since. Does anyone know what this seal plate is? I drove the car home and found the check eng light and the trac light on. I took the car back, and they found a bad o2 sensor, and was able to reset the trac light. I hope everything else is ok after this. I already dumped over two grand into this car (between the busted timing belt and the exploded idler pulleys and the coolant leak). The car still drives really nice though.
  18. I was just wondering how many o2 (oxygen sensors) are on the sc400? What are the locations?
  19. What do you think would be leaking on the heater valve? The o-ring on the tube going from the valve to the pump??
  20. Thanks for all the replies from everyone. I just got back from vacation, and didn't use the computer to go online while on vacation. I'm not sure if the leak is coming from the water pump. I looked all around the pump with the engine running and don't see anything coming from the pump (looking down with the hood opened. It does look like the shop mechanic used sealant to seal the pump to the eng block. Are you sure there are two drains on the bottom of this motor. I hope it is like you said, that is, he forgot to tighten the drains. Otherwise, I'm not sure what it could be.
  21. Do you think the valve for the heater would leak right after the water pump change as a coincidence? Or do you think it was caused by the work done? Mele Kalikimaka
  22. Does anyone have any idea why I would be leaking coolant after I had my timing belt and water pump replaced? I see coolant dripping down to the ground with the engine running and the heater on hot. It seems to be dripping between the engine block and transmission area. I first noticed the problem when my heat stopped working. I then realized I was low on coolant, and after topping it off with my engine running and heat on high, I got my heater to work again. Then I realized I had a slow leak from the rear of the engine block. I've been searching this forum, and I saw another member (older LS400) had the same problem after the same parts replaced. When my mechanic replaced the water pump, was there a chance he might have loosened the water pipe leading from the water pump to the heater core as he was prying out the old water pump? Could that have caused this leak? I'd like to give the shop an idea when I bring it back, so they don't just try to pass this off as a new problem. I didn't have any leaks prior to the work getting done. If it ends up being a water pump problem, or water bypass pipe issue, do they have to remove the timing belt for access, or can they take something else off for access to the pipe? It seems like either way, it's going to be a big job.
  23. My 92 sc400 died on the freeway at 70mph. I looked around and found the timing belt busted, and had it towed to the shop. I just got my SC400 back from the shop. They found one of my idler pulleys had exploded with the bearings exposed. They think the pulley froze and then overheated from the friction of the timing belt rubbing it. Has anyone ever had this problem on their 1UZFE motor??? For the fix, I had the timing belt changed, both idler pulleys and the tensioner replaced. Since everything was torn apart, I had a new water pump put in, new serpentine belt, new spark plug wires, caps, rotors, and plugs. The total damage at my local shop came to just under $1500 parts and labor. Funny thing is, I bought this car from my neighbor who had the car serviced by the Lexus dealership. The timing belt and idler pulleys and tensioner were replaced about 12000 miles ago. But the car was hardly driven, and 12000 miles ago was over 5 years ago. Does anyone know or heard of these idler pulleys going bad if you let a lexus sc sit for long periods of time?
  24. Thanks brah. I had it towed to the shop today. I no feel like doing it myself. No mo time, and look like big job. Thanks again.
  25. Would the valves need to be checked after the timing belt gets changed? If the timing marks are lined up again, do I need to check anything else? I'm not sure if I screwed up the timing after cranking the engine for troubleshooting. Thanks for your help brah. I grew up in Hawaii. Aiea on Oahu. Mahalo.
