  1. I was looking around after my engine died on me on the freeway and I found the timing belt snapped when I was checking the spark plug/distributor cap. Does anyone know if my engine is ruined? I was cranking the engine with the timing belt unknowingly snapped while troubleshooting. Did I ruin my motor more? What will I have to check after replacing the timing belt? Any help will be appreciated.
  2. Can you better explain what you were doing, and what happened when you were driving @ 70mph? also is the check engine light on, and did you or anyone else work on the car recently. I have not recently had any work done. The power steering pump was replaced about 2000 miles ago. Besides that, the car is a weekend car, and gets driven once or twice a week. When the car quit, I was cruising along on the fwy down a slight incline. When I pressed my gas pedal, nothing happened, and I thought maybe my tranny went bad. I shifted the tranny gears to 2 and N before I realized the engine quit and I did see a light on the dash come on. I had a lot going on at the time, and I think I only saw the "check engine" light come on. I'm not sure if any other lights came on. I was too busy trying to get to the side of the road. The only other thing I can think of is that I just filled up the tank about 25-30 miles before the eng quit. Not sure if it was related. I filled up at Shell.
  3. SOMEBODY HELP. I was driving my 92 sc400 at 70mph on the freeway, and it suddenly quit on me. I pulled over to the shoulder, and tried to restart the engine with no luck, even after waiting 30 min. The engine will turn, but I don't get anything else. The car has 101,000 miles, and nowadays hardly gets driven. Any place I can start at. I don't have an OBD reader handy, so I can't plug into the computer for any fault codes at this time. The car was running just fine until this happened.
  4. I purchased my neighbor's 92 SC400 two months ago. Sometimes I've been hearing a clunking type of noise when I make a left or right turn from a stopped position. What is going bad on the suspension? The bushings? and most likely which ones? I read a lot about the bushings being problematic, and don't really want to replace them unless absolutely necessary. Does anyone know the prices for parts and labor on these jobs? Most likely prohibitively expensive. I have all the service history records from the lexus dealership where the car was maintained. My neighbor has reported the problem in the past, but the technician always writes that he was unable to duplicate.
  5. From the bottom of the wing after you remove the little bolts holding it onto the lid (behind underlid liner). However, B4 U do that, make sure you have power at the harness coupling (IIRC upper R rear fender/rear seat area?) that supports the tail of the LED. - Anyway, I had zero V being delivered so pulling MY LED was a waste of labor... You could also put 12v and Neg to the LED lead to confirm its OK and if so bridge it to the barke light + and NEG wires should tracing the harness issue be to much oif a pain.. IF LED is a no go with direct + and NEG 12v test, its fleabay time. Cheers Michael T Thanks Michael T. I just checked the wiring going into the trunk support tube that holds up the right side and found the wires had been cut. Most likely from the mechanic who replaced the truck support struts for the previous owner, or just from interference when the wires were dangling when the trunk was opened and closed. I re-spliced the wires and voila, LIGHTS! I saved myself some money.

  7. The plastic piece is part of the regulator and can't be replaced separately because the cable is swedged into the plastic piece. The regulator was about $140 retail at the lexus dealer. Ask for a discount because I got mine for about $120 plus tax. It will take a good two hours to remove and replace the part. You will have to remove the window motor to change out the regulator.
  8. does anyone know how to remove and replace the led light on the rear spoiler? any advice would be greatly appreciated. The dealer wants over three hundred dollars for a new light. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for a cheaper fix? thx
