  1. Bottom dollar says it's not been bled correctly.
  2. No problem Walt. It looks like you may have a cheap fix for a potentially expensive job. The point about the oil on the brushes is certainly valid as that was my problem. Also on mine it seemed like oil was coming from everywhere but it was only the O ring. Good luck!
  3. You got the same as I had. The problem is a cheap fix. I'm 99% sure your problem is the PAS reservoir O ring, about $2 and an easy fix if you are quick. Next step is the alternator will pack up altogether. Remove the alt and take off the back cover etc and clean it up. Whilst it's off do the O ring on PAS and clean off all the mess. There's plenty of posts of how to do it but here's my version. 1. Disconnect the battery negative. 2. Remove serpentine belt by using a socket and rachet on the spring loaded tensioner pulley. Think it's 14mm and turning anti clockwise will slacken the belt enough to get it off. The tensioner pulley is the one on the opposite side to the battery and it has no grooves on it as it runs on the back of the belt. Whilst the belt is off check the idler pulley for worn bearings. 3. Remove the cover from under the engine. 10mm I think. 4. There is only one bolt and one nut to get the alternator off (14mm I think). One is undone from above and one from below. Once the nut and the bolt is out you can manouvre the alternator in order to pull out the wiring plug at the rear and then remove the main power wire from the side. 5. In order to get the pump out from below you will probably need to take out 2 small bolts from the corner of the sump that are holding a bracket containg two pipes. You'll also need to remove the bracket from the pipes by taking out 2 small screws. With these pipes out of the way you can just about lower the Alternator down through the gap. The whole job will be about 45 minutes to an hour for a first attempt. If your alternator is very oily suspect your power steering pump leaking which is above the alternator. If you've needed top ups you are advised to sort out the leak at the same time as you do the alternator or your time and money will be in vain. If you find the alternator is full of oil check there is no play in the PAS pump pulley. If if seems ok your problem is likely to be an easy fix to stop the leak. The reservoir which hols the PAS fluid is detachable from the pump and when it's detached their is a small 'O' ring that needs replacing. Here in Spain it costs 1.85€ or £1.50 to you in uk. To change it you must syphon out the fluid first then cover the alt with plenty of rags. There are 3 bolts to be removed plus the low pressure pipe. There is no need to remove the pump. You can find more details if you look round this forum or ask here and I'll give you more details. The part number from lexus or toyota is 90080-30040.
  4. I'm on my first Lexus, a fifteen year old LS400 and what a car. Runs and drives like a new one. All my mates are amazed by it. It's unmarked and not done 100k yet so there's plenty left in her, touch wood. Best thing for me is the room inside. All my previous cars have needed special seat alterations to get the headroom for me but not the LS. Glad you are happy with yours, but who wouldn't be.
  5. SORTED! It turned out to be a small leak on the PAS reservoir. When I changed the alt it looked ok, bit damp maybe but not ringing wet. Anyway I took the alt off again and the pump was wet through and it had dripped onto alt. O ring was under 2€ and the old one was really shot although still in one piece. All ok now.
  6. In my case it ain't the battery as it is new, as is the alternator. Having said that the new battery and alternator did cure it for a few days.
  7. Come on somebody lets have some help! I got same car with same problem. Most of the warning lights don't go out when I start the car although they used to. Sometimes they go out out after half hour but sometimes not. As time has gone on they seem to stay on longer. The battery is charging and all seems fine except the warning lights are annoying. HELP!
  8. If it's only played up since the new rear brakes that is significant, there is something amiss.
  9. Checkout my reply on the link. It's an alternator post but it does tell you what to look for on the pump. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=47016
  10. I'd check the parking brake first as it sounds like you say if the brake is partially on. Could be seized.
  11. Can only offer advice for the aerial. It can be disconnected in the trunk. It's cheapest to go on ebay and buy replacement mast (OEM). Fitting is very very easy you can get instructions from lexls.com. You defineately don't need a complete new antenna. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/92-00-LEXUS...sspagenameZWD2V The antenna should be the same on your car as the one listed on ebay just ask the seller a question.
  12. I'm surprised it's still running. That kind of leak usually gooses your alternator so get it fixed a.s.a.p. you can find all you need to know at www.lexls.com and by searching this forum. It is a diy job for anyone with average know how.
  13. I would tyhink it will cost an arm and a leg to get a remote key. I've sorted mine for $30 by getting a pair of new compatible remotes off ebay and they work fine.
  14. Anybody breaking a 93 LS400? I need a pair of headlights.
  15. Hello all. I'm a new LS400 owner and I'm in Spain with a right hand drive. I need a pair of left hand drive headlamps. If anyone can help I'd be grateful.
