  1. Sounds feasable. Will wait for any more replies before I tend to that.
  2. I have a problem with the above and searched all over but although the problem is mentioned no solution is evident. The problem is all the lighting is fine but on startup the tach & speedo stay at zero. A couple of big bangs on top of the dash usually brings if on, sometimes it comes on by itself after a few miles. I've had it out looking for bad connections and also the cluster was fully renovated a couple of years back. The odemeter and cruise work fine. Any ideas on this would be welcome. There is nothing in the sticky concerning this. It is not always both dials, it can be either or both.
  3. Get your antenna from ebay and make sure it's stainless steel. Here the tutorial. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/audio/powerantenna.html
  4. MAF is the first thing i'd look at and there are plenty of posts about it.
  5. I've never had a noisey tyre and I've tried a few. P.S. I'm stone deaf.
  6. Surely it is easier to check the fluid level and the pads than to wait for an answer.
  7. Lexsmoov you should start your own thread but it does sound like the serpentine belt has gone.
  8. If the bumper is easily peeling it has been either replaced or repainted incorrectly. Probably not correctly primed. Lexus will sort it out I'm sure, after rollocking their paint shop.
  9. The engines were different from 97 and they are interference. If the timing belt goes it's a big expensive job so check if yours is the earlier one. If it is an earlier one I'd not worry for a while yet unless you are itching to spend some money. If it's the later one get it done asap or this gem may not be the bargain you thought.
  10. I'd be looking at the mass air flow sensor. It is in between the air filter and the engine.
  11. Dead right, pull the sidelight forward and you are there.
  12. Biggest cause of noise is Tyres. If your tyres are due then that is the first option. Even new ones can cause it so do a search on hear for the best ones to get.
  13. This is a common fault on these cars. There is loads of threads on all the Lexus sites. Do a search and you'll get more info than I can give you.
  14. You'll get more mpg using cruise control, I get high 20's on a run.
  15. No idea but brake wires go through the trunk hinge harness and that is a problem on these cars.
  16. You have air in the system for sure, no question. These cars are notorious for being difficult to bleed. Do a search on here and you'll find lots of help.
  17. Whines are usually linked to belts!
  18. Make sure the rubber gasket is smeared with oil both sides then DO NOT over tighten, tight as you can by hand then not a lot more.
  19. If I weren't so stupid I'd have done the search myself and given you a link but I thought you might get some pleasure from the answer yourself and actually learn something. Anyway as you aren't able to use the search function for one reason or another I'll help you out and do the search myself. You can see the link below. I'm sure that you aren't as stupid as me so you will know that clicking on that link will take you to a relevent thread and you'll find what you could be looking for. By the way if you want to use this site more often I suggest you curb your language or you'll end up getting banned, that wasn't a very thoughtful post you put in your first ever thread. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...mp;#entry299150
  20. You have not done a search. Why do you want us to spend time doing a write up if you can't be bothered to search. There are several LS sites and all have a wealth of info on your subject. Aslo when you do search you'll find that the leak on your steering pump that's goosing your alternator is a minor $2 fix. I've done several posts myself on this very subject so have a look.
  21. From what you say I'd be sure that the valve under the PAS pump is goosed. Your symptoms are exactly right. There should be no fluid in that pipe you looked at and the result is the white smoke you have.
  22. Obviously thing is the battery or the alternator is starting to go. First it's best to take it to a battery place that will do an instant check for free. You should see if the alternator is wet. If it is then suspect a leak on the power steering. That is a well known fault and well documented on all LS400 sites.
  23. Not heard this before but could it be the seal on the gas filler cap?
  24. head gasket is the first suspect but this is rare on a LS.
  25. Your display shows the ambient temperature. That is to say it shows the temperature in the shade, not in direct sunlight.
