  1. Sorry MyToys ... never meant to hurt anyone's feelings. If you look more carefully though, at my 1st thread, I simply said that for ME personally ... that WE can't justify dinging mileage for a different size rim. That's all. Peace bro! That was all I said ... so for all those who change rim sizes for the look ... go for it ... enjoy ... and have a good time with it. Again, sorry if our personal feelings ruffled anyone's feathers. I can help but feel a bit of irony in this thread. One person wants to feel free to express themselves, but when 'SOMEONE ELSE'S GOT MY NAME' exercised his freedom of speech to express his feelings he got flamed. Maybe it is just me but I can't help but feel a sense of irony in the way this topic has been discussed.BTW back on topic. I heard that the electric motors put out a lot of torque and Lexus took that fact into account when they designed the wheels. There may be a chance that non- standard wheels may not be able to handle the stress of the high torque motors.
  2. I don't like to advertise the fact I drive a hybrid because a lot of people perceive hybrid drivers as weird, but a few years ago I bought a custom plate holder for about $20. You can probably find a business that will make a holder that will put any saying you want on it for $20 to $30
  3. First of all the dealer is wrong, I have All wheel drive but on non AWD car they are front wheel only they add the AWD to a front wheel drive car by throwing an extra motor in the rear so the car was designed as front wheel drive with a rear electric motor on all wheel drive vehicles. I have also noticed that if I don't keep firm pressure on the brake the car moves. The electric indicator on the NAV screen shows that the battery is moving the car. The solution is simple keep firm pressure on the brake and the car won't move. To me it isn't a big deal it is just the way the car is designed. Any car with automatic transmission will do the same thing the only diffrence is that you have to press the brake pedal a bit harder with a hybrid
  4. Lexus is protecting you from yourself. Most of the NAV and audio messages are disabled when the car is moving. I love my RX400H but will not get another one when the lease is up
  5. I got the car in mid Oct 07 with a 3 year 36,000 lease, I only have a little over 5,000 on it now but I will start adding miles when I move to and drive back and forth to SC. I doubt if I will have over 24,000 miles when I turn it in so a warrantee doesn't make sense to me
  6. I checked and found the Lexus and Edmunds to be almost exactly the same (they had a mistake on the laser cruise and showed invoice instead of MSRP). I don't know what you are talking about with the $6,000 option but Lexus doesn't have one for the RX400H model (this is the RX400H section of the forum so I assume you are talking about the RX400H). Maybe you are looking at options on a different car. 7. ???????????????????????????? Could you be more specific as to what the differences are so I determine what differences you are talking about
  8. We got the lockpic so we could override bluetooth phone functions. The whole nav thing was just a nice collateral benefit. I bought a Garmin SP 7500 because I didn't think the L/P would work on the 07. Do you have an 07? I am very happy with the Garmin, it is much better than the Lexus NAV but it would be nice to have the blue tooth work and the songs on the radio to be displayed while the car is moving.
  9. One other topic related to rain and DRL I forgot is that people assume (myself included) that if you have DRL it isn't necessary to turn on the headlights in the rain. It took me a while to realize that even with DRLs the headlights should be turned on in the rain because the tail lights are off. So turning the headlights on in the rain may help prevent you from getting rear ended in the rain. Maybe this has been brought up before but if it hasn't I would like to make a suggestion for all the people that think it isn't necessary to turn on the lights on in the rain because they have DRLs it is a good Idea to do so to make your self more visible to a driver in the rear.
  10. I just got back from a trip from NY to SC to T and then back to SC and TX so I guess I saved an insignificant $2. I guess it may not be important to some people but I hate waste, I also make it a point to turn off lights in rooms in my house that aren't occupied. http://www.howstuffworks.com/question424.htm At the time the article was written gas was $1.50 a gallon, it is now $3.60 in NY I just edited the numbers to $3.00 and did the math it and got $1.2 Billion. The numbers of one car are insignificant but when you calculate the number of cars on the road it adds up to large numbers. That's only a couple gallons for each vehicle, but in total it is more than all of the vehicles in the country burn in a day. At $3.00 a gallon, that's $1200 million per year. Looking at it another way, an extra 8 billion pounds of Carbon Dioxide would be added to the atmosphere by this law. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ PS I forgot to mention this but I'll just include this bit of info for what it is worth, GM asked for and got permission from the EPA to disable the DRLs when they ran their mileage tests, so if the effect of DRLs have no noticeable effect on fuel mileage why would GM ask to be allowed to turn them off during testing?
  11. The Garmin 7500 is a much better GPS system, but not pnly do you get the bluetooth phone there is also an appointment schedule calender, service reminder for oil, tires, ect. As much as I hate the Lexus NAV all the other stuff that come with it make it worth while
  12. If they are not helpful when they are trying to get you to send your money, how helpful will they be after you send them your money? I haven't checked in a while but unless things have been updated the product does not work on the 07 RX400H
  13. I spent a lot of time getting rid of them, I want to decide when I want them turned on and althought the decrease in gas milage is probably bvery small one of the reasons I got a hybrid is to use less gas, I would rather get the full benefit of the hybrids ability to use less gas than the (in my opinion) unproven added safety that DRL provide.
  14. I managed to turn off my DRL but in NY and most states the law requires you to turn on your lights in the rain. The problem is that there is is no bell to remind you that you left the lights on and the lights don't turn them self off automatically so the first time I turned on the headlights in the rain I wound up forgetting to turn them off. The solution I came up with is not to turn on the lights. I always keep my lights set to the automatic setting and had switched to the manual on position when it rained. But now when it rains I leave the switch in the auto position and cover the light sensor (any dark collered object will work however a light / white object will work but it with leave a reflection on the window) if it stops raining I just remove the cover from the sensor to turn off the lights, if I forget to remove the cover the lights will turn themselves off after 90 seconds after you turn off the key (or whatever time you told the dealer to set them to). The light sensor is a circular red (it is red but is so dark it looks like it is black) thing that is on the drivers side near the window defroster vent
  15. I happen to have a very low opinion of vehicle entertainment systems. My cousin proudly told me about a portable DVD player he bought to entertain his son on a long trip. I thought to myself how sad it was to deprive the kid of the experience of seeings all the beautiful sights along the way and missing out on all the things that could be learned from looking out the window. Some of my fondest memories are all the things I saw on family vacation trips. It is a long time since I was a child but I still remember the things I saw and learned as a child by looking out the car window on long trips. To answer your question, I have the NAV in my car but hate it because I can't use it to find lodging and restaurants that I would like to stop at or make reservations to stay at when the car is moving. I had an old Garmin 2610 but replaced it with a Garmin 7500. The Garmin is far better than the Lexus NAV but I still like the Lexus NAV because it includes a rear camera, calender, and numerous other features that you get as part of the NAV package. By the way one of the things that make the Garmin better than the Lexus is the traffic warning system. I just drove from NY to SC to TX and back to SC and NY. There were numerious times that the Garmin warned me of traffic delays, and when I was almost home on Long Island it warned me the expressway was closed for construction. Not only does the Garmin warn you of delays, you can also set it to automatically re-route you around a traffic tie up.. The Lexus system is not a good system but ask the salesman to show you the other features that are included with the NAV. If you like the other features get it. My dealer gave me a loaner car without the NAV when my car was in for an oil change and it felt as if the car was missing something without the cool looking NAV screen.
  16. I never noticed it, next time I drive I will look, is it on the NAV screen or the speedometer display?
  17. Thanks for the clarificaton, that sounds like a great product, I didn't know they made them for cars. I stick those plastic things on everything. I put them on my headlights, GPS screen, cell phone / PDA. They even sell them for lap top screens but I haven't gotten around to ordering one for it.
  18. I don't like car bras, but since you already spent the time and money on one be very careful with it because I have seen bras do more harm than good. Make it a practice to take off the bra and clean it regularly. If any particles of dirt or grit get between the bar and paint the normal movement of the bra will grind the dirt into the paint. I don't want to spoil your enjoyment of your new bra but please be careful so you don't ruin the paint.
  19. Whoops I just discovered I double posted, I meant to fix some typos and double posted instead, looks like I can't delete a post
  20. I don't want to pile on but RXREY reminded me of something my grandfather used to say. IT is better to light a candle than curse the darkness. If you hate the car do something about it. I hated the NAV so I bought a after market Garmin and now I am happy. If I hated the car I would find a way to get rid of it regardless of how much time I had left on the lease. It is worth the money it will cost you to get rid of the car. In the long run it will be cheaper than blood pressure pills or ulcer medication
  21. You already know the answer because you found the place, it is the Internet. Is topped reading CR back in the 80's when I was doing a lot of photography. Every lens maker and camera tester used a specific test protocol for evaluating lens resolution, that is every one except CR. The came up with there own unconventional method for lens testing. In order for data to be valuable it needs to be verifiable by other scientists using the same testing methods. CR chooses to dream up their own method. Also CR does a lot of articles about what frozen pizza, ice cream, hot dog etc tastes best. Taste is subjective. I may like a salty tasting pizza while you may hate it. I see no reason to have to rely on CR to tell me what ice cream their "taste experts" say is the best when I can go out and buy different ice cream brands and decide to eat the ice cream that I think has the best taste. There are many more reasons why I don't like CR but that is all I have the time for. In the future try using the Internet and check out sites like epinions and forums such as this one http://www.epinions.com/
  22. I really don't care about what CR's opinion is because I have a low opinion of the magazine. I stopped reading it over 20 years ago and the reasons I have a low opinion of CR would take too long for me to list. But on the other hand I have owned (I currently own 4 cars a 1962 Corvette, a 1996 Corvette, a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland, and my 2007 RX400H) and driven so many different rental cars that I can only guess that the number is somewhere in the triple digits and the RX400H is probably in my top 5. The hybrid is not for everyone, my dealer refused to sell it to me until I took it for a test drive. I love the car and suggest you take RXREY's advice, life is too short to spend being unhappy about a car. I had a bad experience with a Triumph Spitfire that I bought new, instead of remaining unhappy I sold the car after owning it less then a year. I love the car but hate the NAV system, the situation was easily corrected. I bought a Garmin SP 7500 and now I have zero complaints.
  23. I am 45 mile east of the city near MacArthur airport. I would offer to pick you up and drive you to the dealer but I planned on driving to TX on May 24 and am behind schedule an will probably drive nto TX on June 3. The salesman's name is Walter Marion 631-360-3200 ext 147 wmaron@lexusofsmithtown.com
  24. There were and still are dozens of cars in the dealers lot where I got my car at a very good price. If you want to fly out to NY let me know and I will help you out. They have a big color selection and a wide range of options
