  1. actually, i misstated the issue. it's not the ICE, but rather the battery driving the front wheels as i'm braking or after i'm stopped (as you describe basically). i don't think i've changed the way i brake. i drive through the same tunnel every morning, and there was definitely a point at which i started noticing this (both in the amount of pressure it took to brake and the display on the NAV). then again who can be certain about these things.
  2. i've been noticing an odd phenomenon with my 07 400h. this started happening at about 8k miles or so... sometimes when i'm at a complete stop, with my foot firmly on the brake, the ICE kicks in and, according to the display screen (and also my own sense of what's happening), it seems as though it's trying to drive the front wheels to make the car move. i would think that the ICE would kick on if it needs to recharge the battery or run the A/C, but it seems odd that it's clearly trying to set the car in motion. the same type of behavior is occasionally noticed if i'm in slow traffic on a heavy incline, using the break pedal (no gas) to control the speed of the car: i can feel the ICE trying to propel the thing forward, even though i'm just using the break to slow down and no gas pedal whatsoever. of course, the dealer has no idea what i'm talking about and didn't even understand what i was saying when i explained the symptoms. they also told me that the vehicle is primarily a rear-wheel drive, which i believe is flat out wrong. maybe they're right on that though. has anyone else noticed this? or am i really special.
  3. as noted here and elsewhere, the problem is correctable. it is also not the norm and not part of the design. but make no mistake about it, it is an issue, rather than only a slight annoyance as some have suggested. if you drove a car and didn't feel anything, the car wasn't suffering from the issue.
  4. check this thread (on a different forum from this) for more info. you're definitely not alone.
  5. When my dad drives the car I get seasick from the "lurching", I am of the assumption that it's his foot & the sensitive gas pedal that are the culprits because in cruise control I dont need gravol when he is driving. it's not my foot. and, it happens when cruise control is engaged. thanks everyone for the input. i will be calling the dealer. hi tommy did you get your surge/lurch taken care of? did it go away by itself? i have similar issues, the dealer wanted me to drive it a while. "never heard of it in the '07s." according to them. please let me know how it was resolved. thanks RXRAY, "ICE" is the internal combustion engine. the gas burning part. Louis, the surging issue dissipated over time. by 5k miles, i didn't notice it very often. every now and again i'll notice a bit at about 40 mph, but it's nothing like it was. the dealers are full of ca-ca, or, somehow completely unaware of forums like this one. if they took 2 seconds to find and review these forums, they certainly would have heard of the issue on the 07s.
  6. maybe. i had a 2003 MDX and really really liked it. it was a great value and the nav system was second to none. they've since upped the ante with their fully-loaded model, and i'm pretty sure it has about everything the 400h has, 'cept for that really cool tranny and hybrid system. if acura offered a hybrid MDX, i might go that way. most of my frustration with the 400h stems from a few rattles/buzzes, uncomfortable seats, and maddening nav system/voice control.
  7. regarding #4, it's well documented that this is a real issue. "surging" is the word that people usually use to describe it, in case you want to google. i had this issue, but it seems to have dissipated after the break-in period. dealers will pretend they don't know what you're talking about, but they probably do. i've read that there's a procedure that they can use to fix this issue if you don't want to wait to see if it goes away on its own. i still get it, but now at speeds around 30, as opposed to 50-70 like i used to. frustrating, and unacceptable i think at this price point. congrats on your new car! it's pretty super other than a few issues (rattles, surging, lower-than-expected gas mileage, horrible voice recognition, NAV system that's not intuitive and frustrating - to me at least, compared to my old MDX).
  8. I live in New Jersey and haven't noticed any issues as I haven't filled my tank yet. :D (we don't have self-serve pumps)
  9. My old Acura had keyless remote entry for 2 drivers. The car would know which driver (remote) was opening the car, and would adjust the seat/mirrors to that driver's preference. I can't imagine that my 2007 RX400h doesn't have that funcationality, but i can't find it. Is it part of the preferences settings? can i modify them? thanks!
  10. if i'm understanding you correctly, i had the same issue. see thread here. others have as well. if you search on "surge", you'll find some posts/threads. someone suggested that they used to have the problem, but it kind of dissapated. at first i didn't believe them, but i have to admit that i don't notice it very much any more. my 2007 is about 3 months old with less than 5k miles. of course when i called the dealer about something else and mentioned the issue, the salesman claimed he had never heard of such a thing. i didn't get around to talking to the service department, however. rest assured you are not crazy and this is a real issue with some cars. but as i say, it seems to go away for some.
  11. apparently people do. will they continue to if expectations of fuel economy aren't met? i don't know.
  12. i have an 07 with after-market sirius. the dealer install can be viewed here: http://www.siriusbackstage.com/forum/showthread.php?t=89953 it's quite clean i think. there isn't much of a run from the antenna. i can't even see it really. maybe someday soon 50k will buy me a car that has integrated and problem-free satellite radio. and maybe by then i'll even have an aux input instead of a cassette player (effing cassette player?!?!!) and wood that doesn't look like plastic (or no wood at all).
  14. "surge". yes, that's indeed the word i was looking for. "lurch" just doesn't cut it. after googling "rx400h surge" i see that i'm not alone. thanks everyone for the insight and input.
  15. took some pictures today. at about 60-65, on flat road, it toggles back and forth between this (a quick toggle, but a toggle nonetheless): and this: another thing i'm very curious about is illustrated in the below pic. why (how) is it that the ICE will drive the electric motor to charge the battery at the same time that the motor is driving the front wheels? this, by the way, happened while sitting still at a toll with my foot firmly on the brake, after about 20 minutes of driving. i appreciate the feedback. the more i understand the process and hear others' experiences, the better equipped i'll be to talk to the dealer and convince them that something might be amiss. other than being baffled i love the car (and the attachment functionality on this forum). :) thanks!
