  1. I my opinion Lexus put an undersized battery in the RX hybrids. had my battery go dead more times than I can count. I don't recally ever jump starting he car, I think the best thing to do is to use a charger to bring it back. The last time my battery went dead it must have went completly dead because it was the only time I had to drive it to the dealer. The only reset was to get the power window auto down function to work. There may be a small chance you will cause dammage by a jump start but it you turn off the engine in the car doing the jumping you cut the risk of dammage.
  2. Two things to consider #1 by pushing and holding the remote about 100 feet from the car you can get all the window and sunroof to open before you get to the car #2 you may be better off with a solar powered fan I saw advertised on TV a long time ago, I see if I can Google it and find one How about this it may work better because it moves the air http://www.treehugger.com/files/2006/06/solarpowered_ca.php
  3. I went to the dealer a few days ago to get my DRLs turned of, and I opened the trunk of a GS non-hybrid. #1 I was shocked how much bigger the trunk was. #2 If the battery takes up that much space there must be a heck of a lot of weight back there. Putting weight over the rear of a RWD car has always been a good way to help driving in the snow.
  4. I think he is saying that the dealer refuses to admit there is a problem PS it is important to keep records of the visit because he already more than once and didn't get it fixed. If the dearer fails after the numberof times allowed the lemon law kicks in
  5. I guess this may be hard for some to believe, but I do have a very light foot on the pedal, and I gat about 30 to 33 around town, 24 to 26 seems about right or maybe a bit low for highway driving. I just got rid of the 07 RX and now have an 08 GS hybrid and didn't do a paper and pencil check yet but computer readout is about 28 to 29 on a car with less than 200 miles PS two days ago I drove to the gas station, then got back in the car and drove a little over a 1/4 mile to the post office with the engine off. With the RX I did an experment to see how far I could go, I was able to drive over a mile with the engine off
  6. Nope, if you want me to I can take a picture of the NAV and post it. You can take it to the dealer on your next trip because something is wrong with your NAV
  7. I think the issues are separate but closely related. We all hate being behind a car spewing fumes, but many of those cars are at the end of their life span and being replaced with less dirty vehicles. We have done a lot to clean up the air but other countries need to do their part. Regardless of your feelings toward global warming / climate change we all want to breath clean air [at least I hope we all feel that way]
  8. I have one that I took out of my 07 RX when I traded it in, if you are intrested let me know
  9. There is no way to deny that everyone in the G/W debate has their own agenda. I get Upset with MR Gore, but I also get more up set with Mr Rush Limbaugh for distorting the truth. When people on both sides of the argument refuse to acknowledge valid arguments by the opposing side they only make their position look weak. I think the truth lies somewhere in between Mr Gore and Mr Limbaugh's position
  10. I tried posting a picture of my lift and was going to do a step by step assembly guide but it didn't work. I have postd photos on many other sites and this is the first time it didn't work I posted this url http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v308/sil...pg?t=1215619525 with this in front, and this in back and got this message THE FOLLOWING ERROR(S) WERE FOUND Sorry, dynamic pages in the tags are not allowed Is there another photo hosting site I can use that will work?
  11. I watched the movie but refused to pay so I waited till it came on HBO/Showtime. You do have a valid point about Mr Gore but he does choose to quote only the scientists that agree with him, and many of them get their funding through government grants. It is somewhat like the situation a few decades ago where scientists were proving there was no link to smoking and cancer. Unfortunately all the scientist's funding was provided by tobacco money. You have to do more that read the results of a study, you have to consider where the funding for the study came from
  12. I got the same message regarding dynamic pages. I have posted many photos from P/B on other forums and this is the first time it ever happened to me I would really like to do a step by step photo set of the install because it may halp someone else that is thinking about a lift. This is my second lift I left the old one in NY when I sold the house
  13. I plan on doing a step by step set of photos to show how it goes together I tried posting an image from photobucket but it won't work, so I am just going to post the site url. Is there a reason why photobucket pictures won't post?
  14. Hugh? Brake fluid turn to steam? Brake fluid is oil ... so steam I never said that, go back and read my first post which is post #2. I said fluid is hygroscopic, therefore if it is hygroscopic it contains`water, water will turn to steam when heated
  15. I found a link that showed which wire to pull [it was in a box with a bunch of wires near the back of the engine compartment] on the RX. I did it almost 2 years ago so I don't remember where I found the article or which wire I pulled. It was easy to do and can be restored just as easy as it was to pull Here are the instructions It should take about 10 to 20 minutes, but it took me about two hours because I was afraid I would break something and went real slow By the way I used a small jewlers screwdriver to remove the pin.
  16. If I am not mistaken that thread is how I learned which wire to pull on the RX, but luck for me this is an optional thing the dealer can do on the GS model or maybe just the hybrid GS After the dealer telling me I was the first person he ever had that requsted turning them off I can't help but wonder if there are many other people that don't want them
  17. I turned of the DRLs in my 98 Vette that I no longer by modifying a relay under a panel on the floor of the passenger side, the 96 Vette that I still own did not come with them. I disconnected a wire in the 07 RX400H soon after I got it. I was going to re-connect the wire when I traded it for the GS450H but I didn't have the time. I didn't like the light on my motorcycle either but that is a non-issue because I got injured back in 1990 and can't ride anymore [not a motorcycle related injury] The headlight on my motorcycle did nothing to improve safety. I had cars look right at me and then pull right in front of me at an intersection as if I wasn't there
  18. The dealer in NY told me it couldn't be done when I mentioned it was an option in the settings listed in the owners manual. But I called the local dealer in SC and they had them turned off in my 08 GS450H in 10 minutes. The service writer said I am the first person that asked to have them turned off, so it made me wonder if there are other people like me that don't like DRLs. Go to the link and tell me if you agree with turning them off after reading the info Link to anti DRL site
  19. Also if you do a lot of hard braking, [racing on the track or long descents down high steep mountain roads] the fluid temp can get very high, the water can boil and turn to steam. When that happens you can lose most if not all of the ability to brake.
  20. I guess he should try driving in another more established neighborhood before he goes to the dealer. Whoops I just changed my mind for this reason. If this was a new area I would think that the streets would not show and the area would be blank. But you can clearly see where the streets are, you just can't see the names.
  21. Keep this in mind, there are no silly questions, but there are a lot of people that do silly things because they were afraid to ask a silly question. It is far better to ask a silly question than to do something silly because you didn't ask the question. I have owned a lot of new cars and the Lexus is at the top of my list. I really love the hybrid technology an it was really getting me ticked off to bash my car in every post they made. The thing that makes Lexus special to me is the service. All cars have problems but I expect them to be fixed when I bring it back for service. Unfortunately there are many every expensive cars that have dealers that don't want to be bothered with you after they have your money. Now if Lexus would allow me to use my NAV when the car is moving it would be perfect. By the way my 07 RX400H was getting 30 to 33 around town, the new GS I just got is getting close to 30 and it feels as fast as myb96 Corvette. PS I didn't need the room anymore so I got rid of the RX, but today I went to the Dealer to get the Day time running lights turned off. I looked into the trunk of a non-hybrid in the showroom and was shocked how much bigger the trunk is without the battery. I still love the hybrid but I had no idea how big they were
  22. I have said some things on other forums that was meant as a joke but taken the wrong way, I felt is was necessary to make an apology and explain the comment was meant as a joke. I have learned that sometimes when you write things it can be taken the wrong way so now if I say something in jest I try to make it a point to let the person know I was joking. It can still happen every once in a while by accident but when almost every post is rude and abrasive the intent of the posted seems clear. I think most of us come to these types sites to share knowledge, relax, and make Internet friends, but when I come to a place that causes my blood pressure to go up a few points I don't want to come back
  23. Last night I spent a lot of time in my car trying to muck up the display, and that was one of the things I tried to do to intentionally muck it up, I figured that if I knew what to do to make the streets not display all I had to do was do the reverse to make them show. I am in SC and I tried to duplicate the problem by setting the map to the wrong area but it had no effect. As a matter of fact I have driven through 2 or 3 zones without changing zones between NY and SC and the streets all displayed, I also drove to TX from NY without changing zones and it did not effect the display. I think the only reason to change zones is to narrow the search data base when you search for a street or business.
