  1. could it be that one or more of the 02 sensers went out? when that happens the fuel mixture can be way off and you can acually melt a cat converter and they will plug up and thats how they retain heat untill they glow red . I have seen it ! but not on a lexus. there is no where for the exhaust to go and your car will not start and if it does barely start it will run like crap. check fuel mixture/02 sensors and replace or fix. then replace the catalytic converter . its probably shot
  2. could be air in the powersteering system . someone else on forum suggests leaving cap off resevoir overnight. or it could also be the tensioner pulley. mine sounded like something was whining/grinding like berrings. when it warmed up it went away. it was easy to replace pulley and problem was solved. do you have a stethascope? there cheap. then you could narrow it down to what it might be.
  3. size is important the larger oem battery has a bigger reserve for all for all the acc's and for emergencies. the bigger the father apart the cells are and the battery will last longer too. I would go with oem that you can buy at any toyota dealer for about 90 dollars
  4. When I bought my car I had the same problem with my cd changer and I actually got 100 dollars off the car . When I got home My wife looked in the manual instructions....... This is a unusual cd player in that you have to put the cds in upside down otherwise you get the ERR reading. with most cd players the top of cd where the writing is is up on your car they are down so when you look through them to see whats in the changer you have to take them out ... I cant believe no one else knew this one . I hope thats what it is
  5. Just brought my LS to a GM dealership that I trust. they Let me go back in the shop to show them what I needed done. I told him I wanted the solonoid removed and to take the filter off and replace solonoid(without filter) and flush. I cleaned the filter myself and then helped with flush. then replaced clean filter . I'm lucky that they let me back in the shop , most shops won't. but I think it would have taken them twice as long without me showing them where the solonoid and filter was . They charged me 67 bucks total . I'm Happy. Without all of the members of this forum I could'nt get things done like this. I sure do appreciate this club . Thank you all very much!
  6. Is there a tutorial on the solonoid filter removal any where on this forum?
  7. I believe Denso are OEM . I just bought plugs $50 something and wires $86 at sparkplug.com and caps/rotors for $50 something at irontoad.com
  8. Go to www.lexls.com and read the tutorial in introduction about pulling codes from your car... Your check engine light should have come on too if not, than it is possible that your bulb is burnt out for it, and you will need it at some point, so time to get one if you do... Once you pull the codes, bring back the information and let us know! We'll I finally got my plugs/wires/rotors/caps and intalled them. It's been three days now and have driven the car 10 times and It seems like all is well (no more slight misfire at any speed). I think this may be the first time I've ever replaced plugs and wires and had it solve the problem. I dont know about all of you but It allways..allways turns out to be something else. Performance seems better too . could be combintation throttle body clean and new plugs/wires. All is good . next job .... power steering solonoid filter cleaning and system flush ... Thanks everybody!!!! :) :) :)
  9. I just checked under the car again and I can see that over the years some greese has accumulated in a rotational fashion under the body .where it has spun out of the left side of the right side axle boot where it connects to the side gear shaft off the differential. It appears to be a very slow leak off the edge of the boot. and this would not leak oil . It wouldn't leak at all. it would spin the greese out . therefore seeing that the dif. fluid is up where it should be it must be from my something else .not from my lexus leaking. sorry for the confusion on my part.
  10. I just found a oil spot on the garage floor. I'm not sure how long its been there because of wet or icey floor but I dont think it has been there too long. I looked over the rear differential and there were no leeks . It took a while (because it wasn't dripping any more) but it's the right axle boot where it connects to the differential body. It looks like it's a seal on the differential side of the boot. You can see where it has spun the greese out in a rotating line of greese on the underbody of the car. Is it the seal if there is one? ( the boot is good) Does the differential greese lubricat that too?. How much to have garage fix or can I do it myself. Pleas help!
  11. I made my own gasket for my throttle body and so far so good . I think the most important part is to make sure if you cut it a little larger that it's a little larger to the outside . you dont want any extra gasket hanging inside throttle body . that could constrict air flow. and make sure that the gasket material is the same thickness. I'm no expert here but I think that makes sense.
  12. The plug wires I just got from sparkplugs.com and are oem denso . I've never seen wires so thin! they are 5mm Hi temp silicone mag wires . Does'nt look like mag to me.
  13. Why did I get 3 coil wires( they have the plastic snap lock clips)?
  14. How would you check to see if the fuel tank line are sucking fuel or vapors into the canister?
  15. Thanks Tex, I didn't know that the coil wires came with the set. Great I think I will hold off on the Belt and pump for now. You know what .. I went to a lex dealer to see if they could figure the miss fire out and the teck spent one hour looking at my car and pulled one plug so he said and that was it . When I asked what kind of plug it was Iridium or platinum I caught him off guard (I went into the shop) He said it was platinum then he said Iridium . He had it put back together when I went back to the shop so I couldn't see for my self. It cost me 85 bucks for that . and then he said that I need a full tune up and that the timing belt could be stretched out and be causeing the problem. thats one Ive never heard before
  16. I think seeing 1'st Gen. 400's going over 150k is common and not worth bragging about as most cars can do that now a days. I like to hear cars of that generation going over 300k. or a first Gen. having like 40k thats worth writing about
  17. When replacing plugs and wires do I replace the coil wires too? and if I do where are the coils? I'm doing plugs/wires/caps/rotors Is there any thing else to do for tune up . My car has 180k and there was the major maint. at 90k . I suppose I should do the timing belt/waterpump again. I allready did the throttle body cleaning. I hope that the oem Denso wires and Platinum plugs are good. thats what I ordered.caps/rotors are denso too
  18. My check engine light works fine. It comes on when I turn the ignition to "on" . It never comes on otherwise
  19. Actually no I didn't use that much cleaner. I guess when I put one of the sensor on the side I didn't put it on right. I had a Heck of time getting the throttle body on and off with the two hose on the bottom connected . I tried to disconnect them but that was impossible . In the tutoriol I used it seemed like it was a little different than my 94. Next time I will take the studs out on top of the intake manifold where the throttle body connects (take care not to damage the threads) thats what I did to get it back on and then it was easy. And I did forget to mention peddling to the parts store to get gasket material ( I made my own gasget) no dealer around and I wanted to get it done. Thanks for you response
  20. I did take one of the sensors off ,there's two on mine, and when it came off it sounded like somthing sprung so when I put it back together I twisted it so there was tension but I must not have done it right I tried again a couple of times and it still didnt work . then I got your response to my question and went out and tried it again today it took a couple of times but I got it in the right place . Light is off ... thank you
  21. I have had slight misfire for about 9mo.s and now getting worse. so I thought I would follow on of the forums tutorials on how to clean throttle body before I change plugs/wires/caps/rotors in the near future. Cleaning the throttle body on my 94 was no easy task it took me 5hrs . After I put It all back together there was no apparent change in performance and the miss was still there. I guess Its plugs and etc. But now I have a new problem . the trac light on the dash lights up and wont go out . I checked the fuse and its fine Now what have I done!!!!!!!
  22. It's done it for about 4-5 mo's I just wonder why it idles and accelerates so well . when it is at very light load it acts up . I seem to notice it in the high gear more between 40-55 mph.
  23. I will try tightening gas cap more. superlube might have toppped off tranny fluid with other than toyota I will try replacing plugs/wires/rotor when weather warms up. thanks everybody I will keep you informed.
  24. I have an engine miss while cruising on hwy. I only notice it when the car is not fully warmed up and I am at a steady hwy. speed from 50-70 not increasing or decreasing speed. the car starts great and idles perfect. I have tried sea foam with no results. gas milage seems ok is there a sensor going out like oxygen or map?????
  25. 963 So! autombile manufactures are just blowing smoke up are wazoo's when they recommend tire ratings? are you a professional ? Do you know that some REPUTABLE tire dealers WILL NOT mount tires that are NOT specified by the oem pro's . I am glad that I put on tires that were recommended by my cars manufactory experts . I evaded a deer on the enterstate at 75 mph . I swerved instinctavely and the tires I had on I am sure saved my life and my wife's life WhileI was fishtailing down the freeway. I never go or want to go over the speed limit . but come on now v rated tires are rated for the weight and safety of the car . if I had those H rated tires on my car that night I would't be be here now for sure. pay attention to the experts . They are the ones that test drive the individual car and know whats is most safe . It's laughable when I here some one say about a v rated tire .. Why do ya need them .. are gonna go 150 mph. get real.
