  1. How did you manually adjust the aim without moving the motors?
  2. I got the 01 HID housings for my 97 also, the light modules are on their way... my question for you is, how did you fit the housings in the spot? I tried to put them in, but it looks like ill have to cut out some metal from the front of the car, did you work around this or did you do that? How many pieces are involved other than the motors in making the auto-level work? I'm thinking of just fashioning something where I can control the angle via switch, figured it would be cheaper and easier, your opinion?
  3. My struts are starting to wear out in the back also on my 97, Already had the fronts replaced. I took the car to the dealership to check it out and give me an estimate, because I was also hearing a sound from the right rear. They made a free adjustment to the muffler cover which was apparently hitting something when I would go over a bump, and now the sound is gone. I'd have a professional check it out before you jumped into extra costs, you could be having the same issue with the muffler cover.
  4. If you want one that matches perfectly, the dealer can get it for you. It shouldn't be too expensive. ← I recently have been singing the praises of www.newlexusparts.com. They have EVERYTHING there, all the little pieces I felt stupid asking the dealer to order for me, at reasonable prices. I looked up your 95' ES300 under Center Console theres something called "Hole Cover" For like 5 bucks, which is probably what you're looking for. You should write to them with your part number and they'll be able to get it for you even if thats not it. Good luck!
  5. Theres actually now a new product (I cant think of the name right now, read about it on siriusbackstage.com) that will allow you to use Sirius on XM branded products and XM on Sirius, so you could get Sirius in your ES330 theoretically. The new versions of the tuners are more similar between the services allowing for this new change, eventually all cars will be able to accomodate either service from the dealer.
  6. I've seen the side moulding on a few ES300s from 97-01 IMO, they're hideous, totally ruin the look of the side of the car. They lie on the doors between the handle and the gap between the two color panels. Not a nice addition
  7. This is a pretty easy repair - Like the last poster commented, pry off the wood surrounding the shifter, then you will see the whole shift area exposed. There are 4 points where the top of the shift trim clips on, just pry those up carefully and lift up the place (the part that has P R N D on it). Down inside there is a wedge type bulb that you can buy at radio shack or most auto parts stores, fairly common size bulb. There is a green sleeve over the bulb that is responsible for the color of the light, just pull that off and slip it on your new bulb, pop it in and you're all done! Hope this helps Sean
  8. theres a 4 second sort of signal advance, so if you go into a tunnel you'll probably lose service (if there isnt a signal repeater around) but most of the time you wont have a dropout just going under a small bridge and I've never personally had any problems from weather, even with snow all over the antenna
  9. http://www.sirius.com/servlet/ContentServe...d=1077744929995 That page details the $49.99 Fans and Family promotion, email me at seancy@optonline.net if you're interested in it!
  10. And also check out around channels 150-160, they have specific traffic/weather channels for each major traffic-plagued part of the country. If anyone else is interested, Sirius is running a "Friends and Fans" promotion right now where you can get a new plug-and-play unit (either the kenwood or the audiovox one that has the boombox with it) for only $50 bucks with a docking kit of your choice, pm me if you're interested!
  11. Congratulations on going with Sirius!!! I think you'll be pleased with how good their programming stacks up against XM, better by leaps and bounds. The install looks great too! I also wired my plug and play unit's power into the armrest power supply. You should check out the "Derek and romaine" show on 149 from 6pm eastern-10, they're smart, funny, and smutty. Enjoy your new setup!
  12. First off, before fully installing the antenna, you should consider getting it painted to match the roof of your car, I got mine done at a local body shop for 25 bucks, looks fantastic like OEM. I'm going to say that the 97 install of the antenna wire wont be all that much different than the 02 probably. Put the antenna in its place on the roof (But dont put the adhesive on till the end, just use the magnet for now) I routed the wire right under the thin rubber moulding around the rear window, try lifting it up with a straight pin/needle, and work the wire under it around the side and down (This is kinda tedious, but you want to get it all under for a clean look) Route the wire all the way until it goes to the bottom of the glass where it can go into the trunk without being seen outside. From there, i put the wire through the ski pass-through (Thin enough that it can still close afterwards) and then tucked it into the rear seat. Then i trailed it out from there to the plastic moulding at the bottom of the door and it goes under there nicely. The only place where the wire comes out of hiding is to jump from there to go under the drivers seat (Didnt feel like ripping up the floor carpet to figure this one out, and the wire was too short to continue all the way forward and around) So i trailed it under the drivers seat, and right up into the center console, and from there just take it to where you need it. Just try to get creative tucking and hiding, and good luck! Let me know if you'd like a picture of a specific place along the way.
  13. What year ES do you have? I can explain how I routed mine from the roof to the top of the dash on my 97 if you'd like.
  14. The Sirius radio is all I listen to in the car, and at home. I bring the here2anywhere plug and play unit with me to other peoples houses even, its really spectacular. Later this year, Sirius will be offering satellite video over its existing satellites and anyone with a Sirius unit with an LCD screen will be able to get it, should be pretty cool :) www.siriusbackstage.com has all sorts of great info on that stuff!
  15. For fear of ending up like martha stewart, i wont disclose much, but as someone with their foot in the door at sirius, they're not going anywhere anytime soon... your equipment will be worth the investment ;)
  16. FM Modulators arent so great. My friend and I drove from Michigan back to NYC and had to change the frequency of the modulator a few times because other stations creeped in. And also, before you drop all that cash on XM, consider Sirius ;) Every review of sirius VS xm content puts Sirius way out front as a much better service.
  17. So Monday I start the week off with a flat tire. Not sure if it was slashed. Tuesday: front/right break pad wore down to the rotor while i was at school, had to make my way slowly to the dealership and they replaced the front break pads and cut down the rotors, walked out of there out of $275 bucks Wednesday: Someone scraped along the lower panel on my passenger side in the parking lot at school. Made a few nice gouges out of the plastic. I brought it to a body shop they said they'd paint the whole lower trim (its a 97, grey/tan lower trim with the oyster pearl top) and they quoted me 300 bucks which isnt bad, but just another unexpected expense that a college student like me cant afford.. so ill keep you guys posted on how my own work goes on it Thursday: Rock hits windsheild on the LIE, huge crack right in my field of view, had to get a new one changed out (Thank god for insurance!) Things seem to be levelling off at this point? Hopefully my bad luck streak is over! Will be posting pics soon of the scrape for your suggestions!
  18. Hey everybody, This is my first winter with my 97 ES, and I've never had a car before with ABS and Traction control, so its all pretty new to me. We're having a nasty snow storm today and I was curious to see what was normal behavior for these things. When i press hard on the breaks, they sort of push back on you and make a really horrendous noise. If you only go lightly on them however they act normally. And the traction control, when its applying breaking you can very clearly hear the sound in the cabin. Are these things supposed to make so much noise, or should I have my breaks examined? Thanks!
  19. Hey I'm 19 and have a 97 Lexus too, lets start a sub-club! :)
  20. Hey there, Sewell Lexus is offering up cd changer/glove box combos for like 300 bucks on eBay, I just picked one up myself and put it in, they sent the whole entire thing. You might want to email them and see if you could just get the glove box pieces
  21. Hey everyone, I just got my first lexus but a few weeks ago :D Its a 97' es300 in Oyster/Grey with 48,000 miles. Now what I'm interested in upgrading in the car is having the various wood trimmed features of the 00-01 ES300's, such as the steering wheel, shifter knob, and the climate control/stereo. I like the look of the OEM wood trim more than that of the overlays they sell on eBay, So I was wondering if all of these parts will fir a 97 if I am able to acquire them? Any input is appreciated, thanks! -Sean Collins PS. I'll be posting pics of my new baby soon
  22. I had the same problem, I was routing a wire for my new Sirius radio in my 97 ES300, and I was in there too long with the lights and radio on (I'm an idiot, I know) and when I went to start it after all was back in order, I just heard this horrible tick tick tick sound. Tried to jump it, and it stayed the same (I've only had the car for 2 weeks, So I didnt know the procedure to jump the car was different from my old one, where you place the black jumper) Once I looked at the manual and jumped it as it detailed, everything was back to normal. Just sharing so you can make sure you were jumping it properly! -Sean
