  2. Dude, that would be awesome. I would really appreciate that, and maybe that should be pinned! I am sure we aren't the only ones who are struggling with this! Just got back from the audio store. I am looking at about $450 to install my Nav system. This is unreal. They say that they will probably have to run new speaker wires to bypass the amplifier. This blows. There HAS to be a better way. Anyone?
  3. The problem with these aftermarket lights is the wattage rating on them. For example let's say your factory bulbls are rated at 55w. Most of the cheap aftermarket bulbs are rated at 80w to cheat more light output onto the road-not good. This will almost always fry headlight harnesses due to increased current and more current = more heat, hence the burnt connectors which are not designed to handle the increased wattage / heat. Aftermarket bulbs are fine if you match up the wattage rating of the new bulbs with the factory bulbs' output rating. JDMSedan is exactly correct. I can't believe no one has mentioned it before. I have seen this happen in many cars. If you want a great bulb, spend the extra money and buy Koito bulbs or even Sylvania Silverstars. Both are nice bulbs, and are the correct wattage for your vehicle. While they may cost a bit more, it seems like a better option than constantly replacing your harnesses and/or sockets. Or, you could always go the HID route. Good luck.
  4. If you buy a cat-back system designed for that car, you will be fine. Magnaflow, Borla, Flowmaster, Apexi, etc, are all great companies. You could even have one made with whatever muffler you choose. I would recommend that you not run straight pipes, simply for the fact that it will most likely sound like crap. You don't want to be a ricer/hillbilly, do you? ;)
  5. Do you happen to have the part # for this plasitc piece? Mine is coming off as well. Was it hard to replace? No, it was not hard to replace at all...there is a series of screws along the bottom edge of the inside of the door. As far as the part #, I do not have it handy. Just contact Luis or Gordon from Carson Toyota/Lexus and they will give you the right part.GL! I am glad someone brought this up. I just noticed today that mine is starting to part ways with my door as well. I assume they come in the OE color, or do you have to paint to match?
  6. www.oelexusparts.com I have purchased many parts from www.rockautoparts.com, and have been very satisfied. Very good prices on parts, and fast shipping.
  7. I do not know this for a fact, but I would say no. Companies that I have looked at such as Tein, Cusco, etc, list their front strut tower bars for the Second Gen only, not the First Gen. I would imagine that if they fit both generations, they would list that. Hope this helps.
  8. First, how many miles are on your car? And have you actually looked at your fluid, or are you just going by what the dealer told you? (Keep in mind, many mechanics get "upsales", or extra money for things they find wrong with your car and that you pay to have fixed) Is the fluid actually black, or is it just darker than new fluid? Does it smell burnt?
  9. Dude, that would be awesome. I would really appreciate that, and maybe that should be pinned! I am sure we aren't the only ones who are struggling with this!
  10. Hey guys, I have a few questions about installing my Pioneer AVIC-D2 in my '99 GS300. I have looked at various wiring harnesses and whatnot, but still do not know what I need. I have the base stereo--no navigation or Nakamichi--do I need an amplifier integration harness? What dash kit is best? Do I have to run all new speaker wire like I did in my ES? Does anyonw know where I can get a wiring diagram? I am trying to make this as painless as possible, and if it is going to require too much hassle, I may just pay to have it done. Is there anyone in the Northern IL area who would want to do this if I decide to have it done (I would pay, obviously)? Thanks again for all of the help.
  11. Thanks! I couldn't believe it when I saw it. Gotta love those old ladies!
  12. A friend of mine had a SC300 with a Magnaflow catback (not sure if it was bought or custom made) and it sounded awesome. Nice rumble at idle, and not loud on the highway. Beautiful exhaust note at wide open throttle. Just a thought.
  13. I will try to squeeze that out of them next time I am up there. Maybe I will get lucky. Thanks!
  14. They are called some kind of codes. I think Toyota could do it but, they would be scared. I am not sure if it worth $75 or not.... Thanks for the info guys. I will keep you updated if I decide to spend the money. Thanks again.
  15. It says in my owner's manual (99 GS300) that you can set different operations of the keyless entry, such as the beep volume, automatic re-lock delay, etc. Does anyone know how to do these things? The manual says "Ask your Lexus dealer", but I don't feel inclined to pay to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  16. I had read that you can still use the factory cd changer with an aftermarket head unit, assuming the unit is Pioneer. So, I have a AVIC-D2 that I want to put in, and I was wondering if since I have the IP Bus ports, this will work? How do I control the changer? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just got this car today. The old ES300 is gone, and now I am rolling in a 1999 GS300 that I picked up with only 27,000 miles! Very happy with the car, the only thing it is lacking is my navigation unit :) Thanks!
  17. Possibly....but any Lexus is hard to find in the bone yard....around here anyway...
  18. Does anyone know what years of seats will fit a '93 ES300? Obviously the rear seat from an IS300 won't fit the rear of an ES300, but how about the fronts? And what years ES300 seats will fit into a '93? Thanks
  19. I didn't have a problem with either one.
  20. Diesel nozzles are bigger than gasoline nozzles. It wouldn't have fit into the filler neck. How did she pull that off?
  21. Your driveshaft may need to be balanced. There are weights tack welded on there from the factory and it is a good possibility that one came loose or flew off. I would check that. I would assume that a good driveshaft shop could balance it for you. Hope this helps.
  22. 92s and 93s don't have the volume knob. My 93 makes no noise or flashes no lights either. Just make sure you're hearing is good so you can hear the locks
  23. I was reading up on some of your HID installs, and I noticed that most of you claim that you need to modify the stock projectors and put in HID lenses from a vehicle that came stock with HID. I just installed HIDs in my ES300 and left the projectors stock, and I have no problems whatsoever with glare or anything like that. I even had my friend pass me on the highway to make sure, and he told me that they looked great, no glare. So why are you guys tearing your projectors apart? Just curious. Thanks.
