  1. Landar, I hadn't heard of Nokians either until I moved to serious snow country. Those Finnish--they know how to make snow tires, considering their habitat and needs. Of course we here in the states know nothing about snow driving compared to them. There is one thing I have noticed--they seem to be just a minor step below a truly dedicated snow tire in terms of ice traction. If the gap between an all-season and a dedicated 1-season snow tire were 3 vs. 10, I would put the WRs at an 8 or 9. But then again, if ice traction were a priority, you'd get studded snows anyway. Overall, I don't think you'll be disappointed, considering the convenience.
  2. I've got them on my car, firsthand experience. It is summer now, and the smooth ride is, well,... smooth!
  3. Yeah--the 1990 model had the black plastic button that actually self-generates nitrous oxide by extracting Nitrogen and Oxygen from the air and then compressing and injecting into the engine. :P But actually I think it just triggered the ECU to downshift immediately for more prompt passing torque. Ooops--just read the earlier post where someone else posted this. So consider it Myth Verified!
  4. I am having a tough time finding the passenger's side grill support bracket. This is the bracket that attaches behind the grill and mounts to the hood. Any suggestions, or better yet, anybody have one to spare? Help a LOC brother out!
  5. If you don't want the hassle of mounting each season, and don't want separate rims, the only way to go in my opinion is the Nokian WR tires. I have them on my LS4--they are the only tire I'm aware of that are truly all-season, yet also bear the important "mountain snowflake" extreme service rating. They have a special compound that isn't too soft for dry roads, so they don't get them eaten up during the summer months, but are truly a snow-rated tire. (Not the cheesy "all-season" ratings that most manufacturers have that are dreadful in any real snow). As stated, we get over 350" per year of snow where I live. My coworker also keeps WRs on his A6 year round, since he hated having to swap out his snow/summer tires 2x per year. Hope this helps.
  6. PM sent re: grill support bracket.
  7. OK, those of us with crappy 1LS headlights definitely want more info on this one, specifically: What is the cutoff pattern like with the fog housings? Comparable/improved light dispersment vs. stock low-beam housings? Massive glare for oncoming traffic? Did you use HID H3 bulbs?
  8. I live in an area that gets 350"+ of snow per year. My 1990 LS400 with snow tires and traction control gets me through areas just as well as cars with AWD with all-season tires.
  9. I had an original timing belt with only 83k miles, but 17 years old. Replaced it recently, and no problems. Wouldn't worry too much about the age uness you're in an incredibly dry climate.
  10. These are all LS400s we're talking about, and I think all of them had the rear-wheel drive option instead of front-wheel. :whistles: You *could* get the front-wheel drive ES series, but then...well...you'd have to drive an ES. :o
  11. Same here. Especially if maintenance is up to date and the rest of the car is in great condition. Again, only you can make that call.
  12. Let us know how this goes--hopefully it's just a matter of trimming the tabs.
  13. Do the scratches catch your finger nail when you run over them? If not, then you have hope. I good swirl remover followed by polish followed by wax/sealant should do you just fine. Machines like the Porter Cable random orbital work great for things like this. Do a search in the detailing section for more detailed info.
  14. Try spending a little time using the search function rather than demanding info--will go a long way. Oh, and welcome to the forum. ;)
  15. That price for those parts is fantastic. Take that person up on the deal.
  16. I'm assuming you've lost High-beam functionality since it's a 9004 replacement, or are these the ones that claim to "arc" the pattern to high beam?
  17. We get over 300 inches of snow annually where we live, and I love driving my 1LS through the nasty stuff right alongside the SUVs and Subarus. Nokian WR snow tires, and air suspension set to high to plow right through the nasty stuff.
  18. ohhhh hahah ehehehe hohhhoo oh yes its so funny rite ... i sure did look up .. by the way thanks though !! With old cats the material can "crumble" and then clogs the air path. Therefore causing major air flow restrictions and yes, hurts your power output. Also may result in rattling.
  19. Yup-- a japanese company called Datasystems makes them... do a search for ASE664 or ASI65X. If you get the proper harness, it is literally plug and play. You can store 3 preset heights and have 15 adjustment points, independent L/R and Rear. Plus super-low mode to dump your ride onto those fat rims.
  20. Any Lexus dealer should have them. Alternatively, you can order blue, red, or amber LEDs to replace these--easy to replace the button backlighting as well while you're in there if you want. I used the "T 1.5 instrument" LEDs from superbrightleds.com Just make sure to keep the rubber blue covers from your old bulbs from the 3 that are used for the LCD display backlighting and transfer these to your new bulbs--these prevent bright spots.
  21. On the 1st Gen, this cable would be located in the trunk on the driver's side near the rear wheel well.
  22. I've noticed that too. What's up with that?
