  1. Just thought I'd "tickle" this thread....hoping against hope that there will be a fix for this.... It's the only thing that bugs the sh*t out of me about my GS...

  3. The more I drive my car, the more I like it, but the more I HATE the motion-lockout on the touch screen. Not being able to enter Navigation destinations is one thing, but the inconsistent application of the lockouts elsewhere in the audio system is so annoying! I can view detail information on a satellite radio station, but I can't view detail info* on mp3 songs while the car is in motion -- this is insane! * By this I mean if I have an mp3 disc in the CD player (or in my case an iPod adapter), the title/album/artist information will only show up when I'm stopped.
  4. Oh, I know they'd never do the DVD bypass thing. They did install the Vaistech ipod kit, which works great expect for all the f*&^ing limitations imposed by the "don't touch your touchscreen never, never while the car is in motion" lockouts...
  5. I was interested in getting some chrome door handles for my 2007 GSh such as these here?. Anyone care to venture if they would interfere with the Smart Access functionality (that lets you open the door with you key on the pocket)?
  6. I know this has a smattering of posts about this, buried in other threads, but just wanted to create a thread specific to this issue. I just picked up my 2007 GS450h. I was told by the dealer, and have read elsewhere, that the Navigation and Bluetooth motion lock--out bypass and worked for the 2006s (by getting into the service menu via the touchscreen) no longer works for the 2007s. Just curious if anyone cares to speculate as to the likelihood of someone coming up with a new bypass, or if the system has been sufficiently locked down that there is no hope of this. LOVE the car, but the lawyer-designed infotainment system does have it's annoyances. (I got rid of a BMW with iDrive -- at least that car let me program the Nav and dial the phone while in motion....)
  7. Thanks. It's just the way the car from the showroom came equipped from the factory...
  8. Thanks. Those are excellent points. Getting excited to pick up my new GSh tomorrow!
  9. Thanks -- excellent advice! I called my salesman back and asked him to look into it with greater enthusiasm... Can believe Toyota should charge that much for them -- it's free advertising! And love the fact that there are others out there not afraid to adorn their Lexus with the Synergy Drive emblem!
  10. I've read and read many posts about winter tires and runflats but I remain really clueless. (I know NOTHING about tires -- always just kept whatever the factor tires are). I am picking up my new 2007 GS450h tomorrow :wiggle: which comes with all-season runflats. I currently have a BMW330xi with runflats which I have found to be loud and rough (I think) -- not sure how much is due to the runflats and how much is just characteristic of the BMW "road feel". Anyway, my concerns with the GSh's run flats are: [1] How loud/rough they will be. (Hard to really tell from just a couple of test drives). I am looking forward to a more smooth and quiet ride than I had (which I am sure Lexus will deliver with or without runflats). [2] What my winter performance will be. I know in the ideal world I could buy a second set of wheels and tires for winter (Lexus dealership will store and mount them free of charge), but that just seems like a hassle anyway. I'm a car nut, but I know NOTHING about tires. :dunno: If I wanted to get a good set of (non-runflat) all-season tires, any idea if I could get the dealer to credit me something for the brand-new runflats? I know I should probably just take the car with the runflats and see how they work for me, but I really want to maximize my "thrill" with this new car immediately. Seems like the only downside to no run-flats is getting a flat tire and having to change it... Thanks for helping with what I know had been talked-to-death...
  11. Other than the usual things to factor into the decision whether to lease or buy a car (yearly mileage, how long you want to keep the car, etc), are there any additional factors to consider when getting a GS450h? My first inclination is to buy, but I'm wondering what sort of resale value this very expensive "performance hybrid" will ultimately have. I suppose since they will always be comparatively rare, the market for used ones might be strong; alternatively, people may be more reluctant to buy a used one. Just curious if anyone has any thoughts on this.
  12. Are these emblems available from all Lexus dealerships? I know you have no way of actually knowing that... My salesman didn't seem to have a clue. Or are they available online somewhere? Tomorrow I'm picking up my GS450h and had been thinking I want a Synergy Drive emblem (but probably only one!) for my car...
  13. I know there's a bypass for the 06's (menu->volume->top left corner, bottom left, top left bottom left -> hold down override) that allows you to enter destinations while the car is in motion. I've read elsewhere that this does not work in the '07s. Can Can anyone confirm this is true and if there is a different code available for the 2007s? Thanks. (I've tried searching for this, but can't find info specific to the 2007s...)
  14. If anyone's interested, I confirmed that you can, in fact, listen to movie DVDs while the car is in motion. Personally, I think it's pretty cool, cuz the sound is absolutely amazing!
  15. Thanks for your support! I always do this before buying a new car. I do too much research and end up getting paranoid because forums tend to focus on people's problems and gives a skewed view of things. Mind if I ask what your real-world mileage is?
  16. I am about 95% sure I will be getting a 2007 GS450h tomorrow. I've read as much as I can, but I'm still confused about what all is disabled in the car while it is in motion. I went through the 10+ pages on the DVD-bypass thread, but that seems focused on bypassing the DVD movie lockout (which I have no interest in). I know you can't input a destination into the Nav unit while in motion. What bluetooth phone functions are disabled? And assuming the much-maligned voice recognition system works, does that allow you do overcome the lockouts? Finally, I know there's a bypass for the 06's (menu->volume->top left corner, bottmn left, top left bottom left -> hold down override), does that work for the '07's? Thanks for your last minute help!!
  17. Wonder if they are going to replace the cassette player with an 8-Track tape. Or maybe -- just maybe -- add an ipod/Aux jack.
  18. Thanks. There must be more than one Lexus of Orland -- the one I was referring to is in Illinois.... :)
  19. The best way to buy books on tape is at audible.com where you download them and play them on your iPod. Reason #482 why the GS should have an AUX/Ipod jack and not a cassette..
  20. Can anyone give me an idea as to what discount I should expect to receive for a 2007 GS450h with 3000 miles? I just hate negotiating for cars... Thanks.
  21. Who would prefer connecting their ipod or satellite radio with a crappy cassette adapter rather than a direct input?
  22. Can anyone comment on the scenario of buying from one dealer but getting your Lexus serviced elsewhere? My situation: I have my eye on a 2007 GS 450h with 3000 miles at a dealer that is inconvenient geographically. Given the rarity of this car (a barely used 2007 450h), it's hard to pass up. However, there's no way I can realistically get my car serviced at this dealer. What are the implications of getting my car serviced elsewhere? I realize I probably wont get the free car washes (which I really don't care about), but does Lexus, Inc mandate loaner availablitliy for all Lexus owners, or would I be put in the back of the line for these sorts of things? (Admittedly I understand this will vary from dealer to dealer -- just curious if Lexus as a brand dictates these things). Thanks.
