  1. Sorry but I wouldn't get the Injen intake, it's pretty much a waste of money-and I'm not the only one who will tell you that. I think you should reconsider building an intake. Your best bet would be to build a BFI (planetsoarer.com) you'll probably get the best results w/ hp and torque with the BFI. But something that might concern you is that it doesn't look to sporty-it doesn't really stand out or anything. If you want sporty and some pretty decent hp gains and added torque, try this it's not too hard. . . Buy an open filter (K&N, Reactive, etc.) and replace your stock airbox with it. (Just doing that gives you the same look and effect that the Injen intake does except it's about $200 less than the Injen intake). You can stop there if you just want the intake effect-you'll get about a 5 hp gain from this, but if you're wanting a cold air intake then all you need to do is buy some hose about 1 ft. 1/2 long (about 3 in. in diameter) and attache it to your filter then run it down in front of your grill. This will force cold air into your engine. You should get around 10 hp from this, maybe even 15 on a cold day in the winter. The best part is it only cost me $56 and about an hour or so of my time. Hope that helps, good luck
  2. When I bought my SC300 the pop out cupholder was missing a screw, so it wouldn't work well at all and the dealership I got it from wouldn't fix it for free even though it was already broken when I bought it from them. Anyway I asked how much it would cost to get the missing screw. They told me that I couldn't just get the screw I would have to buy a completely new cupholder- so I'm like "Ok, how much could a lil cup holder cost" Well apparently a lot, yeah $150 a lot-for a stupid cup holder, I was like wow this is bullcrap, no way am I payin $150 for a cupholder (you know how many BFI's i could make with that money!) Long story short, I got on the internet a few months ago and found a Lexus cup holder on Ebay for 30 bucks- yeah that's $120 less than getting it strait from Lexus. SO DON'T THINK THAT PAYING LEXUS $150 IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET A CUP HOLDER-FIGHT BACK-GO TO EBAY!! Hope that helps ya!
  3. Hey, what do you think about rims with a silver finish? (My SC300 is red) Thanks
  4. I can only help you out with the cold air intake-they don't make one. And don't be fooled by the INJEN intake it's not a cold air, like the name says it's just an intake, your only going to get maybe 5 hp from it. You should either build a BFI (planetsoarer.com) or replace your stock airbox with an open filter (Reactive, K&N, etc.), by a hose (3 in. in diameter &about 1 1/2 ft. long)n attach it to the fileter and route it down to your grill. The results are similair to those of a cold air intake but it's also like a ram air system. <- This is what I did and I am happy with it. I've gotten an estimated 10 hp gain and there's now a really sweet deep roar from the system that sounds really good. I know a few people in this forum have built the BFI so I am sure that it works good too. Good luck in whatever you do! Oh and if you find the dvd screen you were asking about, do share.
  5. Thanks for the advice, it helps a lot!
  6. I'm about ready to start showing my '96 SC300, but she's missing one key thing- a sweet set of rims. I'm not really sure which brand has the best quality and the best deals, so I am looking to ya'll for help. I would like some 19's. I think chrome (or a chrome finish) would look good, but I have seen some aluminum ones that were pretty sweet. I have a bodykit and some dark tinted windows, so I want some rims that have "agressive styling". What do ya'll think? -Chrome or not? -A good brand that has good quality and great prices? Any help is appreciated! Thanks Ya'll
  7. This is the third time it's happened, I have gone over a speed bump that I didn't know was there to fast and my ingine check light has come on again. I didn't go over it really fast, just a few mph faster than I should have. The previous 2 times this has happened my check light has gone off after a few days(this time it is not off yet and it's day 2), but I still want to know what the deal is. I have gone over more speed bumps and dips to try to knock whatever i knocked loose back into place, but it hasn't worked this time around. Any idea what is wrong? Has something just slipped out of place, or is it just a false alarm and my check light just came on because the ride got a little rough there for a second or two? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
  8. So, you've built a BFI? I ask a local mechanic about the BFI and he said that it wasn't the best thing to do, he acted like it was a bad idea and that it might not be good for my SC300 if I did that. But does yours work??Just curious if he told me wrong. If the BFI intmidates you I have taken another route for building an intake that so far (I'm about half way through with it) is going quite well. If you're interested then let me know.
  9. I've been looking for a strut bar for my '96 SC300, but I'm having troublr finding one. And my local parts supplier says they don't make one for my car. But c'mon I've seen posts on here about strut bars, so there has to be one out there. Do ya'll know of any? I'd prefer not to spend a fortume on one even if it is available, a strut bar is not a necesity for me, it just seemed like an nice bonus I thought I might enjoy Thanks, Christy
  10. Just getting an air filter instead of the whole intake will give you about 5 HP, it's not the 10 or so that the INJEN intake is supposed to give you, but it still gives you HP and for only about $70.
  11. I believe the Injen intake will fit your '96. I have a friend who has a '97 SC300 turbo and he has an injen intake, so I guess it has to fit. He said the intake came with his turbo kit. But I have heard that even with that $200 Injen intake you will get nothing more than a 5 HP gain on a cold winter day. I'd go with the BFI, I'm in the process of collecting materials to make a BFI-and they're not kidding when they say it costs less than $20.
  12. I went to get my brakes checked out today and the front and rear bushings were okay, but my brakes were practically shot. It's going to cost me $120 for each the front and back brakes. But I'd rather pay $240 than pay for it with my life- which could have happened if ya'll hadn't told me that something was wrong and I needed to get it checked out-Thank ya'll sooo much!!
  13. Haha, carbon doors-that's safe, no I think i would just go for the carbon fiber hood, keep the doors for the track
  14. Thanks ya'll, I was hoping the noise would be nothing, but I guess I'll go and get them checked out. I just have one more quick question, I'm takin my SC300 on an 8 hr. road trip this Saturday, and in case my brakes can't get fixed before then, she should be okay right- I mean her brakes won't give out or anytbing. She's handled the problem for a year so a long drive shouldn't bother her, am I right? Thanks
  15. When I turn my 1996 SC300 off, then come back to it later (and start it) after it's been sitting (even just a few minutes) or even just put it into "park" for a minute something happens to my brakes. After sitting for a little while and then idling in reverse or drive (to back out or whatever) I press on my brakes and they make a popping noise- kind of like the noise a coke can makes when you press in on it and then let go and it pops back out. But then after that if I go slow or idle they make the same noise only not as loud. But then when I'm at a speed higher than I'd say about 15 mph my brakes don't make the noise- I guess b/c they've warmed up or something by then. Is that just what the SC brakes do when they're "cold"? Or is there something wrong with them? They've done this ever since I bought it used a year ago. It's never really bothered me, but my friends have been commenting on the noise- asking me what's wrong with my brakes. So that got me thinking, is there something wrong with them? I was thinking it might be something with the brake pads. Ya'll have any ideas? Thanks
  16. What about that white convertible SC300 (or 400?) with the scooped hood in the pic gallery. Or is it custom made? Who does that clean car belong to?
  17. Thanks for the help, I checked it out on planetsoarer.com and I'm looking into taking the BFI route. Thanks again for the help, I'll keep ya'll posted if it works out.
  18. Someone posted a topic asking about HP gains (w/o turbo or supercharger) for the SC400. I noticed that the replies said that there wasn't much you could do, and what you could do would probably cost more than a turbo or supercharger so that would not be much help to the person who posted the topic. So my question is, What about the SC300? I know it's an Inline 6 and the same motor thats in the n/a MKIV Toyota Supra, so are there more modifications that can be made on the 300 than the 400? I've been told that my motor has potential and that it's an excellent motor to work w/ and fix up. So there has to be atleast several cheaper ways to fix it up and get decent HP gains. I really don't have an extra $5000 layin around to purchase a turbo. So it all comes down to this, Are there any ways other than a turbo (and less expensive) that I can get HP gains? I would be satisfied if I could just get 50 more HP (but I think that's a stretch). Any help would be appreciated! Oh, one more thing, is Nitrous really worth it? I mean the boost just comes from hittin a switch, it's not like it's working under your hood the whole time like an intake or something. Is it worth the risk? What do ya'll think?
  19. Who does that white SC convertible pictured above belong to?? Whoever's it is my compliments to them. That's an awesome car! Where did you find the scooped hood?
  20. I disagree, I know you can't just take the turbo and throw it under the hood and bam you've got a fully functional turbo workin for you. But to put it in is not a difficult task. First of all you bolt the turbo on and you've got most of the job done. A turbo from a 2JZ GTE can be put on GE. I mean I could be wrong, but it's been done before.
  21. I was looking through the various SC pictures in the member gallery and I've seen a few SC300/400 convertibles. I didn't even know they made the SC300/400 as a convertible. Are they soft tops? THey're probably really rare, right? Any information about these convertibles is much appreciated. Thanks!
  22. I have a friend who has a '96 Sc300 Turbo, it is an automatic and puts out around 400 HP, the automatic holds up just as well as the stcik does. Also, I have heard that a stock SC300 can easily handle a 75-100 hp shot of nitrous and with some modifications a 150 hp shot.
  23. I have a '96 SC300 auto. and I'm goin for the Turbo as well. The path I'm taking right now is this- search junkyards to find a Supra 2JZ GTE and buy the Turbo before it rotts out. Hey it's been done before and if you're lucky the junkyard you find the turbo at will be run by a woman who knows nothing about cars and will sell you the turbo for $50 because she doesn't know what it is- yeah, that's a true story.
