  1. I have tried several searches a lexuspartsworld.com, I can come up with a part, using a part number or a key word. How did you find it?? Thanks, Kerry
  2. If you come across a low mile well maintained 98-00, you are still getting a great car. I love my 01, and at the time couldn't find a newer one with lower miles. With the 01 You will get e-shift controls, I use that once a year whether i need to or not...side curtain aribags and a redo on the rear lights. Here is the laundry list of changes for the 01 models from edmunds. Any of these years would do. GS 300 has new E-shift buttons on the steering wheel for manual control of the automatic transmission's shift points. On the safety front, standard side curtain airbags debut on both models, and a new sensor detects if the front passenger seat is unoccupied, deactivating the front passenger airbag if nobody is sitting in that seat. Additionally, a new child seat-tether restraint has been added, along with impact-detecting door locks and an emergency trunk release handle that glows in the dark inside the cargo area. Exterior changes include water-repellent front door glass, a new grille with a bigger "L" badge, revised taillights, larger exhaust pipes with stainless-steel tips and new six-spoke alloy wheels. GS 300 gets more wood trim inside the cabin. Good luck on your search! Welcome to the club!
  3. My locks actuate when I take it out of park.
  4. I don't know why you have had such bad luck with all those dealers. CBEST does exist. Maybe they don't have the tool, or maybe the 430's can be adjusted. I have had it done to my own car. The service tech new exactly what I was talking about when I called. I put the link information from lexus.com at the bottom. Its in the comfort and convenience section about 5 pp down. Hope this helps. Kerry mnagdee did you have you had any luck?? http://www.lexus.com/about/news/articles/2...20000901_8.html
  5. I am having the same problem with my gs. If one of the locks fail to actuate, it will not chirp (light still flash) b/c not all of the doors are secure. I am hunting for actuators as well. I remember reading one post where someone actually removed their actuator, disassembled it and had the brushes rebuilt. Its more like $50 a door instead of $250. I am still trying to find that post. Let me know if you find an easier way.
  6. Don't know if you tt dcfish...it could be your C best settings. The door locks can be set to numerous configs, i.e. unlock all doors w/ one click or two w FOB, locks acutate when put in drive or a certain mph. They are set up on delivery when the car is new. You can have them changed at the stealer. Hope you get it worked out, it sounds annoying!
  7. I have had my 2001 GS300 for a couple of years now, great car, only having to perform the ususal maintenance. I priced your 99 out on edmunds, selecting the typical options for a 300...No NAV, No HID's, No ML, No Chrome wheels. (Beware of chrome wheels) I get $11,400 for retail. Unless they have documentation of all maintenece, timing belt, water pump, plugs etc, BRAND new tires and this thing is jaw dropping immaculate...$13,000 is way too much for this car. You have to remember most dealers are only going to give KBB "good" value on a trade-in, which on that car is between 7-8k. I can't check KBB b/c their site is down. I do trust edmunds car values. I think you could come up with a lower mile and newer GS for the same money. Good luck, Kerry
  8. Does your drivers door lock/unlock with the power lock switch on the door? If not, the actuator is probably out. I have the same problem with my passenger door. I am just waiting until it really bothers me and then I hunt up a used actuator. Hope this helps.
  9. You might want to check the cabin air filter. Dirt, leaves, bugs, ect. accumulate over time, if you don't change it regularly it will get stinky. They have been known to be neglected. Any thing you spray in the the intake vent, goes trough this filter, so that may only work for a few minutes. What year is your 400?
  10. Doja, I am having the same problem with my front passenger door. I hadn't driven the car for a week, when I went to lock the doors there was no light flash or chirp. I figured the CBEST setting had changed after not touching the car for so long and the battery had become weak. I then noticed after I would lock the car witht the FOB, I would hear it unlock. That was the passenger door. I messed with the inside lock mechanism manually, and it started working. Then on Monday it was not working again. I was a little frustrated last night, so when I locked it I held the button down a little longer, which seemed to not let the door unlock iteslf again...the lights flashed and the alarm chirped. I know this isn't a long term thing, but it made me feel better! I am guessing the actuator is failing. This has had to happen to someone else, hasn't it???
  11. My tires have been holding air without fail for a month. The extra work at the tire shop was worth it. Check my earlier post and give it a try.
  12. I have had the same problem with my wheels for almost a year. Lexus won't do anything exept offer you some new wheels for $350 per. Find a tire guy you know or a friend knows, maybe the guys you bought the tires from? Have them clean the inside lip of the rim with a wire wheel. Have them use a cutoff wheel to remove any peelers to the edge of the rim. Use two coats of bead sealer and cross your fingers. The place you bought the tires from should appreciate your patronage and spend five minutes cleaning the inside lip...sometimes an extra twelve pack or 1/5th can go along way. There are a couple of other post about this, I haven't seen any other solutions. I have had good luck with this approach, hopefully I can put off buying new rims until this set of tires is worn out.
  13. If you can swing a set of rims and tires that you like for $1000, and the best you can find pricewise is $400 to repair the chromes, I'd be going new. My situation was unique b/c there was no cost to me for reconditioning all four bead seats due to the carelessness of the first tech. As for ebay, you can advertise them honestly, explain your situation and sell them cheap just to rid yourself of them. You can also correspond with the seller and ask them to meet you half way as the wheels were not in useable condition, unless the ad stated them to be in need of repair or defective. You can always go back and make an addendum to the feedback you left to nuetral or negative if they are not cooperative, most ebayers don't want the neg. feedback!
  14. What we won't go through for our Black cars...I just spent some loot at pakshak.com renewing the cloth arsenal.
  15. I see no one has mentioned the power wash variety. Typically 3 or more bays where you pull in and you use a high pressure hose/wand to clean your car. I use these in the winter alot or if the car is extremely dirty, as you can get the wheel wells very clean and it allows you to take advantage of a few hours of the day when it is above freezing. I don't towel the car off unless I bucket wash at the same time. They do use chemicals but I don't think they are concentrated like the automatic washes.
  16. I feel for ya! I too saw some rims on ebay, the seller refused to remove the tires for inspection/shipping. That was a red flag for me. I have the same problems with my 01 GS 300. The original tires were on the car for over 48,000 mi.! When the kid at the tire shop went to remove the first tire, off came a huge chrome splinter. Fortunately I witnessed the tech who was working on the wheels and noticed he wasn't very careful. I had a more experienced tech, who is a friend, finish the job. Long story short. I use this tire shop religiously and they cleaned the bead on all 4 rims with a steel wheel and wire brush. He had to cut some of the peeling chome from the lip of the rims, and I did have to superglue one of the dangling pieces. They used two coats of bead sealer and I haven't had a problem for six months now. Just know what ever you do that these wheels are on the way out. If mine get me 12-18 more months I'll be pleased. I think $100 per rim for cleaning is a little high, it only takes 10 minutes to clean one rim. I guess if they will stand behind the seal its worth it. I will end my diatribe now, I won't even start on the frustration of a 4.5 year old, $42K car needing $1,200 in rims! I suggest to all my friends with the chromes to dismount the tire and have the bead cleaned annually!
  17. Sorry I am chiming in on this a little late but I was searching and had to reply. Did they fix the issue gettosled? Unfortunatley most dealerships don't remove the rail dust caused during shipping from new automobiles, thus when they deliver they car and detail it, you are going to have swirls like crazy. They tiny particles of steel from the rails melt through the plastic protective coating and embed in the clear coat. There is a chemical process to remove rail dust but most dealers don't use it. I am also curious if you already filled out your customer satisfaction survey from Lexus. The results of this survey help determine vehicle allotments to dealers. The more 100% satisfied surveys, the more cars a dealer will be allotted. This can give the customer the upper hand when encountering issues like yours. I hope it worked out for you. I am interested in the outcome.
  18. That just pushed me off the fence!!! That looks awesome. I am definitely getting a PC now. I have the auto sharp pen coming soon, do I have to wait a couple of weeks for that paint to cure before I start the process?? I know with the dealer touch up they suggest it. Thanks Kerry
  19. 130 in a SAAB 900 Turbo-Great car 139 MPH in an 88 Honda Prelude 4WS, fuel chip and regulator 120 in the GS about two weeks ago, its funny that in the six years I had my Grand Cherokee, I never bothered to see what it could do!!! Nor did I test the old GS or ES hmmm...
  20. For your additional keys, the Dealers in Nebraska are getting $325 for the master; $260-275 for the key, $50 to program it...+ tax. The Valet key, which only is for ingintion and unlocking the doors was $147; $95 +prog +tax. If you bought it from a non-Lexus dealer, they can usually get the key for cost for you. When I traded for my 01 GS3, I had all the keys and keyless remotes for my Jeep and he gladly called Lexus and ordered the key for me. Saved 50 bucks. Hope this helps.
