Well VMF, this has certainly turned out to be one of the hottest topics on the forum in awhile. Little some lady driving carelessly in Brooklyn, know what she has started. I see all the mods have joined in as well. I'll say this, I met my wife in college because she was waxing her 69 Barracuda. First time I had ever seen a girl waxing a car. That thing ripped until it got stolen. She's never had a wreck (I've had 7 or 8), she's never had a ticket (uh, I had 7 or 8 of them), she speeds but drives great (I suspect not getting caught is luck). I've ridden with her doing 90MPH on the Jersey Turnpike. My daugher changes tires, brakes and oil. She also details the inside of the cars. She has pictures of cars on her walls. You won't find any of the shirtless boys who a currently famous. Nope, just cars. And no, she is not ugly, there are boys hanging around our house all the time, because she likes cars. She loves cruising the Lexus. It's all about respect. I have many things that bother me, but I've never gained much from expressing them. Especially to those who disagree. Politics, personal things, car prefference, doesn't maker. People disagree. You are you, I am me, we have the right to disagree (R. BRADSHAW et al, 1995). Let's all be cool, this is a great forum for everyone. Now, let's get back to what we do best. Someone get out there and start a post on street racing they done in their 400's. I want to know what cars I can blow off, and what I can't. Might make me crave for even more power. Denny

I have to agree that's it's probably just a coincidence. This goes against my grain because I don't believ in them. You may have to go get a code check to see what is going on. I'll try to look up some info and post it later. Going to the junkyard in a little while

My daughter is 18. She got her permit when she turned 15, and her licence when she turned 16. I bought the truck two years ago and I got a stick to discourage others from driving it. But, she just had to learn. She shifts great, and hasn't burned up the clutch. She leaves for Virginia Tech next week, and she is not taking a car this year. I'll have three cars all to myself!

Yeah, there is a small black button right under the gas pedal. It's almost like a turbo boost of something. I'm not sure what it does technically, but it really gives you power.

I've noticed that I really speed in my Lexus. Can't help it, the car just cruises. While trying to be good today, I drove only 65MPH on I-64 in Virginia Beach heading toward the oceanfront. Jeeeeze... I didn't pass one single person, and everyone blew right by. After I saw a MB fly by, I couldn't handle it anymore, I flipped the console button to POWER did a quick burst to 90. Whatever that button is under the gas pedal, it works! I must say that the Lexus is really a great car to speed in. If a cop comes around you slow down and look as innocent as possible and let them catch some kid in a red Honda with big fins and a coffee can exhaust. The cops figure you are not going to be racing in a Lexus. By the way, I use both hands and I don't eat or talk on the cell phone while I'm speeding. I pay attention and use all of my perceptive driving skills. I hate seeing people going 85MPH and talking on the phone.

Do you mean to take all the stuff off to get at the timing belt to see if it's cracked or worn? If I get that far, rest assured a new one is going on. You can see the drive belt (serpentine), and in Virginia they won't pass you on inspection (at a dealer) if it's cracked. Failed my Caprice for a cracked sepentine. They didn't get the job, I just scaped off the rejection sticker and went to a gas station where it passed. The I replaced the belt.

You'd leave Brooklyn? Man, I only had one car stolen there ever! Found it in Bushwick, stripped. Before we could even get it, it was stolen again. Does that count as two? I'm not even getting into the women and driving issue. My wife reads this sometimes and she would be "annoyed" if something was said. Besides, my wife and daughter are both pretty good drivers. My daughter drives my truck with a stick and does great in town and on the Interstates. Of course I taught her to drive so that might be why she is so good. Most people are crappy drivers anyway. They hang flags and stickers all over their cars and then drive slow in the left lane. In the rare event they ever use a turn signal, they leave it on for an hour. Buick and SUV drivers are the WORST! I taught my daughter when you see a Buick, watch out!

Did you check your dipstick to make sure the oil level is correct. The 4.0 engine uses 5 and 2/3 qts of oil. If the level is low or high that might cause it to come on. I agree that it is not normal for it to come on after an oil change

It sounds like a nice car but.... I find it hard to believe that a pair of old snowboards approaching checkout time would be able put 100,000 miles on a 1997 car. Hopefully, they had the oil changed regularily. I think the timing belt is suppose to be changed around 90,000. It's important to do on the newer Lexuses because the valves can hit the pistons if it was to break. The serpentine belt (called the "drive" belt by Lexus) is the belt that runs the alternator, steering pump, a/c and such. The enhine timing belt is behind the waterpump inside the front of the engine. That's the one thats expensive. The dealer gets about $170 just to replace the drive belt. 100,000 miles is nothing for a well maintained car anymore. And yeah, they sure do smile a lot around the dealerships. If I made that much for stuff, I'd be smiling as well! Good Luck

And I thought I was the only person who waxed their windows. I use my regular car wax on all the windows except the windshield. I use Rainx on the windshield. It works great, but only for a short while. I also wax the sunroof glass.

UCF Are these modules difficult to remove? I would appreicate any directions since I have to take it out anyway to replace a relay.

Thanks Todd. Yeah, I had seen something on it but couldn't find it. Well I guess all I have to do now is figure out what an air mix servometer dampner thing is and where it is located. I'm hoping that it's something not huge to replace or fix.

The code which is displayed is a 33. When the car is hot, the LCD clears up and I can see it. anyone know what a 33 is on a 90LS A/C

I've never seen a wrecked LS in a junkyard. I would probably try to buy the whole car if I found one. Maybe I'll run out to the junkyard again just to check. I found 2 ES250's last time but most of the stuff is different the the LS. A day in a Lexus junkyard would be more fun than DisneyWorld for me.

I checked the owners manual and it specifies Dextron II is used in the PS unit. I would be very careful about putting in anything else because compatability becomes an issue.

Interesting, no code listed. I'm going to use R-12 since I have it. I think I'll recheck the code to see if I misread it. Anyone else have any ideas?

Many 4in cars use two senders. One for the top of the tank, another for the bottom. My freinds Mazda's gas gauge only works when it is below 1/2 a tank, the rest of the time it reads dead empty. The sender itself is... you guessed it, in the gas tank. Hint, run the gas really low on gas (almost out) before dropping the tank.

Bummer VMF. It's not just women that can't frive. In the past five years I've been hit by 3 guys but only one woman. Considering the way people drive it's amazing that more people aren't hit. I hope the dameage isn't too severe. Even if you call the cops, they don't do sheet. After the woman blew through a red light and totaled my Cady, the cop said "uh well... there wern't any witnesses so I can't really do anything" Then her insurance company bent me over and said they weren't paying me anything because their client said "her light was still yellow." "Still?' I asked? Around her (VB) nobody signals, 3/4 of the people speed, and 1/4 go under the speed limit., and just about nobody actually pays attention. Maybe we need a wreck forum?

I got a code 33 and 21 on my A/C which doesn't work. Once I moved it out of the garage, the code 21 disappeared as advised. If someone has a code book I would appreciate knowing more. My A/C light stays on steady and has never flashed. Compressor doesn't turn. I'd like to get this fixed before it gets cold. If I need a new compressor, I'll get it from Pace and DIY it. I have an HVAC buddy who will evacuate and charge, and I have 30lbs. of R-12. I guess what I really need is a good diagnostic before I get into it. The Lexus dealer in Syracuse told me it was the compressor locking up, but from what I've read, the A/C light is suppose to blink when that happens. Any and all help is appreciated. Denny

Can't help you with how to change it, but check with VMF. His lastest post might offer some insight. To git rid of the old fluid, put it in a container and take it to any auto parts store and just dump it in with the oil. ATF is just oil anyway.

A couple on thoughts on this. Todd said that the starter has an automatic start thing. I've noticed this, though I've never seen it mentioned anywhere else. I was kind of freaked out when I got the car and wasn't sure that it was suppose to do that. Sometimes though, it seems like mine hangs engaged longer than it needs. Is this normal? Next, can you replace the contacts without removing the starter. I mean I like car work and all and have changed many starters but it's never been a job I particularily enjoy. This is a good topic because it's one of those things that all of us will face in the future if we haven't already been there (which I haven't). Thanks for the support! I still feel it's better to do the work yourself if you have the ambition because nobody cares for your car as you do. Denny
