  1. How often do you guys change the caps and rotors? Every 60k?
  2. Im having mine replaced for free. Im sure there "goodwill" is just a way to get me to do service there. Which I will not be.
  3. Thanks for the replies. I have already checked http://www.discounttoyotaparts.com and they dont seem to carry ball joints for genII unless Im overlooking them. Anywhere else to look?
  4. I took my 95 LS into the Lexus dealership today for replacement of a seatbelt (free). They came back and said I needed to replace my lower ball joints. I have not noticed any rough ride or pulling in the car. I cant find lower ball joints anywhere on the net . Can anyone point me in the right direcetion to look and how much I can expect to pay. Thanks.
  5. I found some intresting information that falls in line with LS Bob's diagnosis on this web site http://auto.consumerguide.com/Auto/Used/re...iewreliability/ The site claims the " engine misfire" can be fixed by replacing the ECU the cruise control module and spark plugs. Honestly I have not been able to replicate the problem for my 95. I did recieve my 89661-50224 yesterday and will go ahead and give it a try. I am also switching from a Cali ECU to the Federal. If anyone has a tutorial on how to change it out I would appreciate it. I will follow up with an update soon. By the way I picked up the ECU for $225 from car-part.com with a 60 day refund policy.
  6. Two questions. 1. The use of a product like Meguiars 83 for swirl removing should only be done with a PC? 2. I see two options for clay grade, fine and medium is there a prefrence? I cant afford the PC this time arround so I have to do it by hand.So any other info for doing by hand would be nice Thanks for the great info.
  7. The car in Miami is a decent deal. Depending on how much time you can afford it seems you could do better.I didnt know there was a rust issue. But if there is rust I wouldnt get that car. The inspectors will look for rust issues if you hire one. The other resources are look at the big metropolitan areas on craigslist.org and look in the classifieds in those same cities newspapers. This is more time consuming but worth it if you find the "deal". Good luck.
  8. The company is Pro Auto Inspectors and there web site is the same with .com. I think the owner's name is Joel and he used to work at a Lexus dealership. He's a great resource for info. Seriously though I think you could do a better than the deal in Florida. Although a visit to Miami could be nice. In my experience used cars from southern Cali. typically have the best prices in the nation. I got a 95 with 56k for $10. I see deals like this all the time on the net. Just dont be in a rush about it if you can. What are your resources for finding these cars?Good luck.
  9. Allways have the car looked at by a mechanic or someone that knows these cars well. You can have it inspected by mechanic anywhere in the country. There are many companies that provide the service. Look up car inspectors on yahoo or google and there are many chocies (around $100). I have experience with one of these companies and thay saved me a lot of frustration.PM me and I'll tell you the name of the company I used, if you go this route. And I say the 94.
  10. Is it complete overkill to do the timing belt and water pump now? My thought is that the car is ten years old and it seems it would be best to change all weathered rubber out now instead of three years from now for 90k.
  11. In Ls400BOB's orginal post he refers to the TSB's. What is a TSB and while we are on abbreviations what does OEM stand for. I infer that it means originall part. Just wondering.
  12. Well some good news. Im getting a new seatbelt for free from the local Lexus dealer. I explained that I just bought the car and I guess they just wanted to show off that "quality" Lexus service I keep reading about. Im sure they think that will bring me back and Ill let them think that ;) . Free is good.
  13. Im trying to recreate the engine dying so when I put my new ECU in I can test it. The time I had this happen was on the 1200 mile drive home from buying. I'd liked to hear about how long of a drive usually triggers this problem. I dont want to have to drive 1200 miles again. LOL
  14. Im considering doing the service my self. To be honest Ive changed the oil on my cars in the past from time to time but never been that mechanically inclined. I remember reading somewhere on this forum that the 60k service was mostly changing fluids. Is that right? Are there parts that I will need if its more than fluids that I can go ahead and order.Bear with me I am a novice. Its becoming routine for me to post a big thanks at the end of every post. This site has already saved me so much frustration and money.SO THANKS!
  15. I have a seatbelt tension problem with my 95 LS as well. Anyone have an update on a repair they have done? Thanks. Heres to not getting punched in the face by the airbag in the mean time.
  16. The official color name Im not sure of, its dark green easily mistaken for black at a distance. It has chrome wheels. It does not have heated seats or traction control. What other options are out there? Looks like Im going to have to also buy an ECM to make perfect. <_<
  17. I just returned from buying my Californian 95 LS400 and have expeienced the same problem, coming off the interstate and dying on the offramp. Really dangerous! Im really interested in reading any updates from owners switching from the Californian ECM to the 49 state ECM. Any problems poped up? Improving the performance would be an added bonus. A serious thanks goes to all that have helped on this thread. I will follow up with my experience soon.
  18. Thanks for the input. I have already run the carfax on it and it came back clean. The 10k was 1500 under his asking, I think I have just found someone despreate for cash.
  19. I paid 10k for a 95 with 56,000. It needs 1k to make perfect. Did I overpay?
  20. I paid $10k for a 95 with 56,000. It needs 1k to make perfect (new tires, alignment and detailing). Did I overpay?
  21. Hello everyone, just found this site and think that is a great resource for me in the future.I will appreciate any input on my questions. The car I'm about to buy needs a little TLC upon buying it. A little paint work and an allignment and should be as good as new. 1. Any additve suggetested for minor varnish build up in the oil? 2. Best oil? 3.Best tires for rainy weather? (Live in Seattle) 4. Estimemated cost for 60k maintience and what all goes into a 60k service? 5.Anybody have an indepedent mechanic in the Seattle area? Any other input for routine care and or problem areas I should keep an eye on I would certainly appreciate.
