  1. Does anybody know about replacing the factory amp with another 4 channel? I read someplace that its possible, but I'm just not smart enough to figure it out just by looking @ a wiring diagram, unless it would just mean splicing rca type connectors to the wires in the harness. The cd changer and radio work fine, but my speakers are going out one by one. I like the look of the dash with the factory radio, and even if I swap it out, I don't like the idea of ending up with a useless volume knob next to it and a big empty space underneath. I really haven't seen any installations that I liked. Another thing I'm thinking about is just installing another radio and hiding it in the glovebox - maybe even getting one with a remote and finding a way to mount the remote sensor so that it could be accessed w/ the glovebox closed... What do you guys think? Thanks again for your help and input. Vince
  2. Thanks Alot James!!! I was able to make it happen in one afternoon - I thought it was going to be one of those things I started on Saturday morning and didn't finish until Sunday night! I would like to emphazize the importance of noting which marks to use - I had to take mine apart and put it back together b/c I thought that when the instructions said mark they meant the tab that sticks out - not the hard to find groove in the camshaft pullies. Thanks Again!!! If you're ever in town the drinks are on me!!!
  3. Thanks, I can't remember which peice was how much, but the two together were like $400 - I've been hoping to find something on eBay.
  4. Where did you find the actuator? When I called the dealer, they told me I'd have to buy a new handle to get a clip and a new latch for the rod.
  5. I know it's my own stupid a$$ fault!!! PLEASE HELP ME !!!
  6. I remember a few months back I found two or three how-to articles on changing the timing belt, but didn't need one then. Now I've been looking for the past two days and haven't been able to find ANYTHING helpful!!! I called myself tuning up my '93 SC400. I changed the plugs, wires both distributer caps and roter buttons - and when I was putting the cover back on to finish everything up, I dropped a bolt in the timing belt. It ripped a hole in the belt and knocked off the timing. :chairshot: It's parked until I fix it and I hope I didn't do any other damage - it might have ran for 10 minutes or so before I saw the tear in the timing belt and realized thats what happened to the bolt that I couldn't find. :chairshot: Does anybody know what else I should check before I put it back on the road. Please post the how-to for that as well as any other how-to links; as I am trying to piece together a service manual for this car.
  7. Believe it or not, I walked down a NC State Trooper on I-40 at 135 like the day after Christmas. I had been drinking and was chasing my ex-fiance (I should have known better). I slowed-down, but he still got me at 95 (No DUI though ;-). DON"T TRY THIS AT HOME!!!
  8. How do you run the self diagnostic? Do you have a list of what the codes mean?
  9. :cries: :cries: :cries: :cries: :cries: The factory stereo in my SC400 is dying a slow and painful death. Last summer the front passenger speaker died, and now I think the one in the back is on its way out. Plus the CD changer skips excessivly, when it finally decides to play. And now to top it all off, the tape deck (which went over a year w/o being used at all) won't eject, I replaced the Pioneer amp and factory sub w/ Rockford about two years ago and was happy for a while. I didn't (and still don't) know about running the factory amp leads to an aftermarket amp, so I used a line-out converter to make that work. It worked pretty good for a while, but since the rear passenger speaker that I connected the l/o converter to started to die, it's taking a toll on my sub. I haven't seen many custom stereo's in these cars, do any of you have pics and/or stories of your installs? I like the look of the factory stereo in the car and would like to keep it as a head unit. I'm pretty sure that cleaning the laser would solve the problem w/ the cd changer skipping, and I've read a few articles on what might fix the amp, but I want more power. Is it possible to replace the factory amp w/ an aftermarket unit? I eventually want to put a dvd player in it, and tv's in the sunvisors but could do that w/ an FM modulator and mount the player in the glove box, if I can get the sound I want from the factory head unit. Any advice?
  10. The rims look good, but the ride height is a little funky. I'm thinking about putting 20's on mine, but depending on who I talk to... they rub. Have you had any problems w/ them rubbing? The rims on my caddy rub, and I'm running through new rear tires about every 8,000 miles (it's also got a leaky air suspension). Also, like the other guy said it looks nice, but I think the ride height is a little off. Have you thought about a body kit? Also I'm installing remote door poppers next week, they're alot less money then I thought (like $120 for the kit and the guy quoted me $110 to install but we'll see how much it actually costs) the actual shaving of the handles will come when I get the car painted this summer, that way I get time to check out the remote system and make sure it dosen't let me down. I'll let you know how it turns out, might be something you want to consider.
  11. If a jump dosen't fix it then odds are you've got a bad starter. Shop around for a starter specialty shop and you can save big. Starters can easily run a couple hundred dollars not even considering the installation. I know a local shop that rebuilds 'em all day for $125 parts labor and all.
  12. You should be able to do it yourself, but I can't tell you where to find the clip. Once you remove the door panel you should see the rod dangling loose and all you'll have to do is snap on the new cllip and snap it in a hole in the outside handle. Here are step by step instructions on removing the door panel. http://www.lexuspros.com/tutorial4.htm Be careful not to break the rod w/ the power windows. I broke the rod and had to replace the entire door latch which is a lot more work (not to mention money) then just replacing the clip.
  13. Does anyone know anything about replacing the factory Pioneer amp w/ an aftermarket? Can you do it, or would you have to replace the entire unit?
