  1. Sure you can. I ran mine like that for a long time... My problem came when my 400 watt Rockford Fosgate amp kept blowing the 10" subs i bought. I went through a Rockford, an Infinity and a Kicker before I decided to go ahead and put two 12" Rockford HE2's - then I had to upgrade the amp though. Now I'm at RF speakers front and rear, the 400 watt amp I had running the subs is turned down now and running the 6.5's in the deck and I've got a 1200 watt McIntosh amp pushing the subs. That's the thing about car audio - once you get started, it's hard to stop!
  2. sounds like my type of lady ;-)
  3. WOW!!!!! wtf - this is the last place i thought I'd ever get into political/racial debates... Well I can tell you from experience that cops get it wrong some times. I live in NC, and my brother is in NY. When he visited one time a few years ago, I took him on a tour of some of NC's 'hoods' in my coupe (with rims, tinted windows and a loud stereo). We didn't do anything suspicious other then being black (actually mixed, though we both look black) and in our twenties late at night and in a fancy car. We didn't stop and talk to the prostitutes or dope dealers that were standing on the corners. The cops turned behind us and ran my plates (which I don't necessarily fault them for). My father helped me to buy the car and it happened to be registered in his name, a 60+ year old Italian man. They pulled us over and when I asked why, said that I didn't look 60 years old and white and they wanted to "make sure everything was OK". They asked, and I allowed, them to search the car (my mistake), and found a half-empty liquor bottle and ended up taking me to jail. When I went to court, they had to dismiss everything because that was not a legitimate reason for them to stop me. But that was only after I paid $1,500 bail and $1,000 to a lawyer... I had another incident in Philadelphia, where I was pulled over for having one of my license plate lights out, and my car was impounded. It cost me almost $1,000 in legal fee's, travel (since I was living in DC and had to leave it there and come back when the courts opened after the holidays), impound and tow fee's. And that's not all... My car has gotten me singled out by the police more then a few times. I've considered getting rid of it just because of the extra attention it brings me. But even with all that, I can't hold it against ALL cops. There are some that are just *BLEEP*s - that's a granted. There are some that are racist - that's a granted also. And I'm the type of person that believes that they should drop about half of the laws that they have on the books. But I can't hold it against cops all cops as individuals, or even the police force as a whole. After all that I've been through with the legal system, I have to believe that most are good and are just doing their job... The problem with law enforcement lies not with those that enforce the law, but with the ones who make them. Having said all that - I have no idea about the laws in California. I know that here, they do not have to have their lights on when they set up speed traps and things like that. I can't imagine that they do in Cali either, but I can't speak on that. I know that here the law only states that you have to come to a complete stop and ensure that you can safely pass and don't have to yield right of way, but again I have no idea about California laws. The only advice I can offer is that you do talk to someone who does. Lawyers aren't cheap, but there's a reason that they make the money they do... As far as psycho ex girlfriends, I've had enough of them to come to the conclusion that all women are crazy!
  4. i feel silly - I always thought the only available options were the heated seats and traction control... I thought they all had the same stereo
  5. Jim - the problem with your RX sounds a lot like what happened when the alternator went on my SC400. There was a short inside it and it blew the 150Amp fuse. I thought it was going to be a quick and easy fix, but almost set myself on fire when the new fuse blew (it literaly exploded as soon as I re-connected the battery. Also, it took me 2 tries to get the alternator right - cheap AutoZone parts...
  6. Do you still have the engine ECU? I also need the passenger door latch, but I'm not in a rush for that as I'm troubleshooting a car that won't start... If so, hit me at Vince@ProfessionalEnt.com Thanks!
  7. Yeah - this happens to everybody... It seems as popular an issue as this is, somebody should rebuild them or make replacement rods... Anybody know of anything like that? Also - Interior Handles... If your's haven't broken yet, odds are they will. I know they're not that that expensive from the dealer ($50 when I had to replace one two years ago), but do you know of anyplace to get them?
  8. That's not the way it happened when my alternator fuse went out on my SC400. I was driving it, and talking on my cell phone (not attached to the car) and not really paying attention to the car. When I got off the phone, the first thing I noticed was that the radio had turned itself and would not come back on. Then I noticed that my dash lights had gone out. I was still able to drive fine, but only had another few blocks to get where I was going. When I got there and turned off the car, it would not start again! The lights and horn worked fine, leading me to think it was something with the switch. After I had it towed home, I noticed that the alternator fuse had blown. I put another in and it blew as soon as I touched the new fuse and litteraly burned my hand (guess I should have thought to disconnect the battery). Turned out that my alternator had a short somewhere on the inside. Unfortunately my car hasn't been right since though, so I'm not the best one to give advice about this...
  9. I'm not getting a spark on either side. I'm really concerned about the voltage going in to the coils though - it looks to me like I've got a bad ground. I can ground either coil to the battery and get 12V, but on one side when I ground to the other wire going in to the coil I get 6V and nothing on the other.
  10. Both coils? It seems strange that they'd both go out on me at the same time, but I guess it could happen. But shouldn't there be 12V's and a negative ground going in to the coils?
  11. I'm really searching for a solution for my V8 having the same problem. Does anyone out there have the manual that can send me the pages this post mentions? Also, where can I buy the book for myself - I should have done that a long time ago...
  12. So - what ended up being the culprit. I'm having a similar problem. But when I check the voltage between the two wires leading going in to the coils, one reads 6V and the other nothing. But when I check against the battery ground, I get 12V from both sides... Should I try grounding to the battery and see if it will start?
  13. This sounds a lot like the problem I'm having w/ my '93. Did you ever get it resolved? Also, on mine I noticed that on one of the coils, I read 6V from one wire to the other going in to the coil, and none on the other. But when I ground to the battery, I get a full 12V. I started to try just grounding the other wire to the battery and see if it would start, but decided that I should make sure that they should both be reading 12V there before I go that far.
  14. So - I thought about it and answered one of my own questions... I turned the car off and checked again and f course, neither one gets power withouth the switch being turned on. But I still don't want to try anything until I'm 100% sure that they are both supposed to get 12V in. And then if that does get the car to start, I've got the terrible task of finding out where the ground is broken and what else isn't working.
