  1. Hello, Google your RX sun visor replacement. I bet you'll find a match on eBay, usually with a 90 day warranty but, of course, it'll be used. However, it won't cost anywhere near what the dealer wants. Good luck!
  2. I just had mine replaced since my AC was going from cool to warm on a regular basis but, usually more warm than cool (not cold). The expansion valve is located on the DRIVER'S SIDE up under the dash. NOT the passenger side. My mechanic replaced mine in less than an hour and that included taking the glove box out and searching for the valve before searching the driver's side, taking 4 incoming phone calls and adding one can of freon. So, all the advice and YouTube videos that refer to the passenger side do not apply to the 2002 RX300. I hope this helps someone else out there. BTW, the expansion valve assembly is covered in some sort of black insulation type of rubbery foamy type material.

  4. Hello, I have a 2002 RX300 with 125813 miles. I'm poor so until the Virus hit I couldn't afford Premium Gas; I bought Regular. As a result of using Regular Gasoline I would hear a rattling sound from my engine, when accelerating and or when I tried to increase my speed while going up inclines. Of course my MPG went downhill. I read alot on my situation and discovered that if I disconnect both Battery Terminals for 24 hours (it's what I did - others did it differently) I could reattach my cables, tune in my radio stations and then drive a minimum of 50 miles (I drove more), preferably on a Sunday. You should notice a huge difference in acceleration and everything else afterwards, including gas mileage. Evidently our Lexus vehicles (I suppose other makes as well) only perform as good as we drive; if we drive like a Sunday Driver then it'll be slow versus a very quick highway driver . Try it out.   5. Yes, it's not the heater core. That I checked on and I smell the towels everyday to ensure that it is not coolant or anything from the radiator. I don't smell coolant either. But, my reservoir is very low but, not empty. The water is clear and no coolant smell. Thank you for the advice. Also, I noticed and felt water on the back floors...both sides. Any other ideas?
  6. Hello, I have searched but never found an answer to how to unclog the AC lines on an RX300. My RX now generates so much water that I must wring out 2 Terry Cloth towels (one on each side) a minimum of 4 times a day, usually more often. I've read about plugs by the Firewall on the ES vehicles and then possibly a drain tube somewhere inside the vehicle but, never an exact location. If anyone knows how to fix this problem please respond (with pics if possible). BTW, the water occurs when running the Heater also. Thanks! JJ
  7. Hey! I don't know about the knock sensors yet, hopefully won't for a long time but, have you tried looking at the Club Lexus site for a solution? Regarding your mileage of 12 to 14mpg after it being 28mpg: whenever you reset the computer the mileage will go higher then come down to match your driving habits, i.e., if you do mostly highway driving then you'll probably get higher mileage than if you drive in the city. After a computer reset I once showed about 48mpg, while I was on the highway and now it back down to 22mpg. You may also want to perform a complete computer reset as I once did. Don't give up on your RX300. Also, although I haven't tried this yet, you may want to check out your Toyota Dealer and see what the costs are for some of your parts.   8. My pleasure Sir. BTW, I actually disconnected both battery cables when I did mine, not just the Positive as some do. I've also heard about others trying to pull a main fuse (somewhere on the firewall) to reset the computer but, I've been told that won't work for the complete reset. I did see the video you are referring to but, when I actually found people with the same codes and supposeded vacuum leaks I went with their ideas. I just can't believe that it was a Mercedes AMG website where I first learned the method, afterwards I found the Lexus owner saying the samething. You may also want to make sure you have at least half a tank of gas; I read somewhere that the amount of gas can effect your resetting of codes and the computer as a whole; mine was full, with Premium, when I did my reset. Just so you know, the RX300 owner said he does his reset almost weekly because the cars learn our driving habits and adjust accordingly; I think weekly is overkill but, he is a 4WD off roader and maybe he needs it that often.   9. Hi. How did you clear the computer? My 2002 RX300 had almost all of the symptoms of your wife's vehicle. I followed the advice of an RX300 owner and a Mercedes owner; disconnect battery for a full 24 hours; reconnect the battery, retune the radio and drive as fast as you are allowed (maybe 5mph over) for 25+ miles then turn around and do it again (return) until you attain at least 50 miles. My vehicle ran almost like new and the sensor lights haven't come back on...almost a year ago. FYI, Pepboys showed that I had a vacuum leak also. I also waited until an early Sunday morning to drive my 50+ miles, on a highway (you don'twant to do this in your neighborhoo), so I could go fast without interruptions. If you do this keep an eye on your AVG MPG Readout, if you have one; you'll be amazed at what you see. Anyway, this is what worked for me and others but, your wife will be without her vehicle for at least 24 hours. Good Luck Sir.
  10. Hey There! I'm really happy for you! You really came through and then you went the extra mile and repaired new issues you discovered. You obviously have a very good work ethic. Alot of people would have either just stopped or given up and only repaired what they originally planned to repair. I learned to work on cars as a child back in the carburetor days. LOL! Fuel injection was intimidating back then and now we have computers running our cars. What's next!? Although my Lexus is a 2002 RX300, your situation is useful for me. I appreciate you listing the Torque values. I would have just "spaced"the idea of taking a code reader with me, while looking at a used vehicle. Thank you for the reminder! Don't forget to replace the missing light bulbs for the sensor lights...I'm sure you didn't, just my small attempt at humor in an otherwise difficult situation. Something I learned concerning my sensor lights (the VSC and another...don't remember the other now); I went over a 2 inch change in asphalt and concrete through a construction zone, I was going about 10 MPH and the lights came on after the bump. Of course I freaked out...knowing the cost of the sensors. My vehicle started acting really strange, started idling really rough, attaining a normal driving speed (35 to 40 MPH) was difficult, et cetera. So, I got home and started looking for low cost sensors, as you had done. The sensors were still too expensive for me. I thought it was very strange that more than one sensor would light up at the sametime so, I began a Google search. I ended up on a Mercedes AMG site and later, finally, on a Lexus site; both sites had people talking about resetting their car's computers, due to sensor lights having to do with a vacuum leak. So I followed what they said; both said to disconnect the battery for a minimum of 24 hours to reset the computer (not to pull the main fuse), then drive the vehicle for 50 miles. I pulled the battery cables (both of them) and let my RX300 sit for 24 hours; went out actually about 36 hours later, reconnected the cables, reset the radio and drove off. Fortunately it was a Sunday with only a tad bit of traffic (a miracle in Dallas) so, I took off down the Freeway. Our speed limit is 75 to 80 so, of course I was doing about 90 (I wanted the drive over before the real traffic started). The further I drove the higher my Average Miles Per Gallon digital gauge went, to where it ended up at my getting an average of somewhere around 47 Miles per Gallon (can't find my pic). After getting back into stop-and-go traffic the gauge settled on 23 Miles Per Gallon Average. After several months it is averaging around 18 miles per gallon. Anyway, my vehicle is getting great milage in the City (as displayed), it idles great and runs like a new vehicle. And the sensor lights have not come back on...thankfully. The person on the Lexus site stated that he does this about once a week since our vehicles "learn" from or driving habits. Once a week is too much, I think but, maybe every few months. The above is just a tid bit of information you may want to try one weekend. You say you are only 26? Well, I would've loved to have you in my Air Force Combat Unit. You are definitely a credit to yourself and your family. I know what you mean regarding the rock to crawl under; unfortunately that will not help of Society. I wish I had the resolution. Education and family values are the most important things that come to mind. Hopefully your children will have a more civil Society to live in before it's too late and "Big Brother" is watching all of us like a Hawk. Can you say George Orwell or Nineteen Eighty Four (1984)?   11. Wow! I can't believe the deceit people go to just to make a dollar or get out of an unfavorable situation. I guess I'm just too naive these days.   12. Hello, I just saw your post and went looking for a solution. I have found many solutions to a Lexus problem on other non-Lexus sites.   13. Hi. I'm not sure but, that seems rather high. Depending upon your particular parts you can get a complete rack & pinion set, on Amazon, for anywhere from $150 to $450; these are refurbished parts, as all major auto parts are these days. Of course you can always buy brand new parts for major dollars. If you're mechanically inclined you may want to replace the parts yourself and then have a Service Center adjust them for you later. Just make sure you have a grease pencil so you can mark the current set's placement then adjust the replacement set to match the current set. Or you could find yourself a "shade tree mechanic" who is an ASE Certified Mechanic who just needs extra work; like all professions these guys and gals are everywhere. On the other hand, most places use the Chilton's Manual to determine labor costs and labor is always the highest portion of any job. For example $150 to replace a brake light bulb, which takes about 5 minutes max...ridiculous! Then, depending upon your State, you may have to pay a Sales Tax on the Labor Charges!! Just check around with various mechanics. See how much they'll charge if you bring your own parts. Compare the cost of their parts to what you may get on your own. Also, make sure any and all parts are OEM parts. Ask your Service providers about a Warranty on parts and labor. Check the BBB; there are alot of disreputable Service Centers. If in doubt about all, try to afford your Lexus Dealer as a last resort. Good luck!
  14. Hi. I had the code P0440 before as well. It occurred after I went over a 2 inch drop in the road, in a construction zone which caused my VSC, Trac Off and 1 minute later my Chk Eng light to all light up. I freaked out since I can't afford the cost of the sensors. Anyway, I went to Pepboys had them read the computer and P0440 is what came up. The Mechanic said he had another 2002 RX300 in a couple of days prior and it is definitely a vacuum leak but, the leak could be anywhere from the Air Filter to the Gas Tank. He checked the Air Filter first & it was good...that's when he said it's anywhere from the Air Filter to the Gas Tank. I came home, scoured the Internet and ended up on a Mercedes site speaking of the same issues. Took the information from the Mercedes site and scoured again for 2002 RX300s and finally found the answer. Put the original gas cap back on and trash the locking gas cap (I put a locking cap on after the gas lines went crazy when people thought they weren't going to get gas, a few years ago & I remember the 1970s); Reset the Computer. Simple as that...just Reset the Computer. So, I disconnected my battery's positive terminal for 24 hours (I wasn't going anywhere, wanted to ensure that nothing was getting electricity and wanted a hard reset...not a soft reset). 24 hours later on Sunday morning while most people were either in Church or sleeping off Saturday night I reconnected my battery, set my radio stations and drove off down the Dallas Freeway heading towards Oklahoma. I drove 27 miles North at an average speed of 77 to 80 mph (The Speed limit is 75), turned around and came back. I was instructed, via my readings, to drive a minimum of 50 miles so my total miles driven was actually about 58 (54 highway miles). It should be noted that my Avg. MPG while I was driving continued to rise all the way up to around 56mph (I have a pic showing 44 after I started City driving) but, I couldn't take the 56mph pic while I was driving. Right now 5 months later my Avg MPG is around 28mph. Everything changed when I reset the computer (this is why I left the battery disconnected for 24 hours)...all auto functions changed, the warning lights stayed off, I'm showing better gas mileage, the engine isn't idling rough anymore and generally it is acting and driving like a new vehicle. It also passed State Inspection a few months ago with better results than last year. I know this doesn't answer your questions about the wiring but, this will probably save you alot of time. It's worth a try. Oh, I almost forgot, the 50 miles of driving after reconnecting your battery must be non-stop driving (no engine shutoff until after the driving). Hope this helps. Good luck!

In regards to the VSC lights: last week I was driving on a fairly smooth Dallas, tarred road and went over about a 1.5 inch gap (road construction) and my VSC lights came on then about 5 minutes later my check engine light came on. Of course, being poor, I panicked. I have the Car Shield Insurance but they won't cover the sensors on older cars...mine's a 2002 RX300 with around 120K miles. I went to Pepboys and came up with a code of P0400 which has something to do with "evaporative emission system." The guy said it could be anything from the engine to the rear of the car. I immediately started Googling the code and its causes. I ended up on a Mercedes AMG site, by mistake, and saw that people there were having the same issues and that a computer reset was needed. I then got on the Lexus sites and checked them out. The Lexus people were having the same Issues with the same code and other codes. One man said it was only his gas cap; that got me thinking since I had put a locking cap on last year when gas went sky rocketing again and the long lines were reminiscent of the 1970s. Others were saying that they reset their computers a couple of times a month. Evidently our cars adapt to our driving styles; that also got me thinking about why my cars dash always showed avg. mpg at about 4.7 mpg & never changed. So, I did what they all suggested and disconnected the pos battery terminal for 24 hours (doesn't have to be that long of time but, it was suggested), put my original gas cap back on and, on Sunday (less traffic) I tore down the highway at about 75 to 80 mph (for 100 miles instead of the normal 50) and watched in awe as my avg mpg climbed up to 55 mpg...not kidding at all. I was alone so I couldn't get a pic but, it was literally reading 55 mpg. Now I'm not naive to believe that I was actually getting that kind of milage but, the gas gauge barely moved a cm. and when I got back into city driving it started reading 35 to 38 mpg, depending upon my speed; and it still is! The guy at Pepboys said another RX300 had gone in the day before me with the same VSC & check engine lights on & confirmed what the man on the Lexus site said also, check the vacuum hose on the air filter housing...it fixed the previous RX300 but not mine. So I went the other route, described above, and now the lights are off, the car is running so much smoother, since I noticed it also had a rough idle and sounded rough from the tailpipe. So far, the lights are still off, the avg mpg reading is either a miracle or I need a new computer (hopefully not) and it is running like a brand new car. Anyway, what I did is worth a shot. Try it before going to a mechanic for the $70.00 diagnostic reading. Good luck!
  16. I have a 2002 RX300 which I purchased last January (2014). In April I went to start the car and nothing happened; well the lights came on, the radio and a/c came on and all of the instrument panel lights came on but, when I turned the key to start, nothing...not even a click. Fortunately for me I have a great Lexus Dealer in Dallas who sent out a Roadside rescue person. He replaced the battery and everything was fine until this morning. This morning I turned the key and as before everything lit up but when I turned the key to start the vehicle all I got was several clicks. The original battery that went out in Jan 2014 was dated Jan 2014 and I noticed corrosion under the plastic cable cover; I informed the tecnician and he just said it doesn't matter since it's problay only an inch or two down and he sprayed something on it. Now, when I as a kid in the 1960s and 70s, I used to work in a gas station (a real one with lifts, tire changers, et cetera) and I use to go on service calls all the time for dead batteries. I learned that any amount of corrosion will prevent the alternator from recharging the battery properly. So, I am kicking myself right now for not having replaced the cable sooner. However Lexus wants between $35 and $50 for a cable I can probably get at PepBoys or any other parts house for around $12.00. So what I would like to know is how long is the positive battery cable on the 2002 RX300 and are there any issues which I should be on the look out for, considering the compuerized situation of the vehicles made these days. While I'm aking, how long is the negative cable? I may as well replace it too, while I'm doing the positive cable. On a side note: One thing I did learn from the Lexus Service Technician who came out is that, according to him, Lexus batteries are made by Interstate Batteries. I personally believe Interstate Batteries to abou the best batteries around. One last thing; does anyone know how or where I can obtain a copy of the Service Manual for the Lexus 2002 RX300? I did download the Service Manual for the 2003 RX 300 from this site hoping that it will be of some use. Thank you all for your time and consideration.
