  1. as you probably already know, the folks at www.crutchfield.com probably could tell you right away whether you needed an adapter or not........
  2. Sweet Dude, that's awesome! I hope to get mine next week. Silver 99, 17" 5 spoke rims, with nav. 82k miles. :) I can't wait, I'm excited as hell and want to start modding it! I'll probably buy parts for it before I even get the car....... lol!
  3. I forgot to mention that it costs around $99-$140 around here depending upon the car, size of back window, etc.
  4. Usually those 17" rims will come with a shorter sidewall tire. This helps keep the *circumference* the same, which is the true measure of how your speedometer will be affected. If you keep to the Lexus stock tire size for the 17" rim, you should not have any speedo problems at all. (It'll be something like 225x55x17 or something like that. I can't tell ya for sure what the stock size is.
  5. around here, the 3 main choices are usually shown in 'percentages'. One is called 50% tint another is 35% tint another is 20% tint. 50%, I believe is the legal tint but it's next to nothing. 35% gives you that "it's obviously tinted" look but you can still see inside. People can make out what you are doing, but details are not easy to see. 20% is obviously an illegal look if a cop see's you, but it's the one that LOOKS COOL. Not limo-dark, but people certainly can't see in. It's the one that I always WISHED I would have gotten, after thinking that the 35% would be enough!!!!! I'm gettin' 20% on my next car.....
  6. I have to agree. A. Never trust the dollar amount that they tell you it will take to fix it. You must have this checked out for youself, at possibly a small cost to you otherwise you're just giving them rope to hang you with. B. Every wrecked car that I've known about has always had these little "quirks" when the car was done being 'fixed'. Things that don't work right anymore, or don't quite line up right, or a rattle that can't be found. Almost always more of a pain than you would at first think it is. I say don't get, and look for the car that runs / needs only small touch-ups.
  7. I have used two things with pretty good success for each one. They both take some amount of patience, but they both WORK and wont' screw up your paint finish. #1. Goo Gone. Orange colored, goo-remover available at Lowes, Walmart, etc. Works even better if you let it soak on their for a little bit first. (I know, it's the side of the car. squirt the entire cars stripes, then work your way around.) #2. Hair Dryer / Heat Gun. (loosens up the adhesion so you can pull it off) Sometimes I've done the hair dryer to get going, then finished up the job with Goo Gone.
  8. Thanks Blue. I did pick up a CarFax report and reeeallllly, all it shows me is the date it was first Titled. Nov. 12, 1999, that it was in Los Angeles, and had the same owner until it was AUCTIONED on June 26th, 2002. Oddly, the mileage from June 2002, until now, is the same. :-/ Seems odd to me. I'm curious about servicing, ya know? It's got 82,000 miles.
  9. My local dealer is having computer problems and I'm looking to buy a GS400 with this VIN> JT8BH68X1X0013872 Is there somewhere online to look up details about this VIN? Anything at all really, from options to service records to the previous owners name. Thanks, Allan

  11. excellent shots. I only hope that mine looks as good when I get it and put some $$$ into it......
  12. that's fookin' tight yo! Excellent look, I'm jealous. Nice pick of rim and tire.
  13. Steve, with any luck on my part, I should be shopping with you very very soon! :) Should know tomorrow night,.......well, maybe Friday. Hoping to be a proud new owner of a used Lex.
  14. doesn't that SRT intake come with the Piggyback chip for the ECU? I swear that's what I saw at their website........maybe I'm wrong..... it would just explain the higher price and HP.
  15. As long as we aren't talking about maximum performance type of tires,......Michelin has always been good for me for a quality, quiet, car tire. I'm curious what people have to say about the Nitto! (is it noisy or harsh?)
  16. I can't be specific for your area/locale, but I can tell you that there is a chain now for Dent Removal, "Dent Wizards", etc. Even the car dealerships are using them! I did it to a few *door creases*, not a 'simple' round ding, on my Caddy STS and they did a perfect job and it was CHEAP too. (considering other alternatives) Two door dings/small dents is about $100-$200. Try to look them up in the Yellow Pages or Business White pages under 'Dent Wizards' or call your local dealer to see if they sub-contract that kind of stuff. I'm pretty sure it's a national chain and it shouldn't matter that your dent is a bigger than the ding stuff.
  17. Hey there Henson, I'm new here too. In relation to the speaker grill thing, it certainly wouldn't hurt to look in www.car-part.com It is an EXCELLENT collaboration of "salvage yards" that are computer linked across the country using special software. You may not find or be able to pull up the grill at that website, BUT, by putting in a more common part, or a bigger assembly, you can find and call some of those places that would be near you. I'd bet you could find the radio there if you wanted to... I just found a fender and door in great shape for my car. Or, I would think you could just order it from a Lexus Parts counter at any dealer. Welcome to the site, there's lots of good reading in the older threads!
  18. Can anyone break down the differences for me between the "standard" stereo for a 98-99 GS400 and the "Nakamichi" unit?? I recognize Nakamichi as being a great stereo/audio company from my time spent in Japan while in the service, but would like details about the two different systems. ie. # of speakers, wattage, sound quality, EQ's, etc. THANKS!
  19. Nice Sypher,...... she's real, uh,....purty! ;) just teasin, ain't never seen one quite that shade before, but I have heard of Precision Industries before. Should really make the car wake up off the line if it's any kind of pooch like my Acura 225 hp straight 6 with automatic.
  20. Thanks for the link! I've given that a shot, as I had seen that someone had posted it in another thread previously. I keep checking back to it, but haven't had any luck as yet. My local dealer,....Rahal Lexus I believe....Dayton Ohio, doesn't seem to want to sell me a GS400. Either that, or maybe all of the sales peeps are just too busy. ;)
  21. damn I'm smart! I see that I seemed to have put it under the "Buy and Sell" forum. Hmmm. Or maybe a moderator did it. :) Doesn't seem like you frequently find your answer JUST as you've made yourself look like an idiot in front of everybody? Oh well, it's not the first time and certainly won't be the last! ;) I want to move the post, or cross post it here in this forum because there's a bunch more traffic here, and from similar car owners to boot. I'll wait to see what the Mod. says.......
  22. So, I've been reading here for a few weeks now, and yesterday I popped my big first thread starter by asking for any clues on where to find a silver GS400, 1998-1999 version. I can't seem to find it anywhere at all right now! <_<
  23. ....probably too late with this, but it's a great site with lots of brands and pic's, so I wanted to share it with everyone. www.superbuytires.com .....no, I don't work there! ;)
  24. that's some really great information man, thanks for sharing that! I learned something today!
